Just Okay

I thought this drama would be good, but instead, I was disappointed.

I watched this drama with my Mom and Sister, and they both were disappointed as well. The drama started off good, but around episode 12, it seemed like they were preparing to end the show. All of the episodes after started to drag out. I also thought that the plot could have gone more in-depth. While watching, I thought that the chemistry between the main leads never fully developed. I really wanted to like this show, but it seems this drama is just not for me.

So predictable, I’m not even disappointed

If you have a list of mediocre Korean dramas, this is one to add to the list. This is another typical drama that has quite a good concept and strong start but horrible progression that ends up draggy and boring.

The villain is lame and just evil, not exactly smart. Those hidden plots or mystery pointers they planted throughout the drama are underwhelming. You can almost foresee what is going to happen next when watching the drama. At least, from the first quarter I’d already knew

1. Do Hee and Koo Won must have been lovers in his past life.
2. Seok Hoon is definitely not the evil one here - despite the scriptwriters planting so many parts hinting that he was.
3. The true villain was never Do Kyung but actually his father.
4. Do Hee and Koo Won will never die - regardless how many times they actually went through death.

I find predictions in the comment section more interesting than the actual plot. Korean dramas must be running out of ideas at this point.

You've seen bits of it before... but it's still lots of fun

You are definitely going to be getting de ja vu while watching this, I agree with some of the other reviewers - I definitely found myself drawing comparisons with Goblin, Black Knight, and some Doom at your Service.

But you know what? It's still an enjoyable watch, I love the sound track and the chemistry between Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang was excellent.

There's some threat and mystery as people keep dying around the main characters as we figure out who that is and follow that trail, meanwhile the demon is making deals and ultimately all the stories come crashing together and we realise there's nothing random about this at all.

There's one thing they didn't face off squarely though in my opinion and I suspect it was to keep the positive tone particularly in the ending, but it just rang off key for me. Black Knight faced it head on, he was immortal, she was mortal, there are implications for that and as tough as it made Black Knight to watch it finished the story. I kinda get why they didn't go down that route, but it just felt like a bit left unsaid.

Cast are all brilliant. Kim Yoo Jung is always a top star and I enjoy watching her performances, Kim Hae Sook is brilliant to watch as well, and Cha Chung Hwa's character is brilliantly done too, I especially like her cap - which has "GOOD" written on it, but one of the O's is barely visible. I mean, just in case you needed it spelled out...

The show does have one of my favourite lines though, which i'll paraphrase ;)

"People like to think I control everything, but really i'm just a companion on their journey".

I like that, it played off well in the moment too.

It does have a magic button fix-all moment, but I think it worked and was led up to numerous times prior to it happening so it didn't feel like the writer had an "i have no idea how to get out of this, i'll just magic up a solution" moment.

The little bickering bit at the end however just felt really odd. I guess the writer was trying to get a final message in but honestly it didn't hit home for me at all, and just scribbled a bit over the general positive theme.

I'd certainly recommend the watch, I've not regretted watching it in the slightest, though I don't rate it as one of the best they don't all have to be the best!

OVERHYPED but was Predictable

this might make me sound like a hater but this was really just a GOBLIN/TALE OF NINE TAILED knockoff , similar storyline with the same execution , for the way everyone has been hyping this drama i thought it waa gonna be SHOWSTOPPER , like it was gonna be something I've never seen before but boy was i wrong , dont get me wrong the casting was PHENOMENAL but that was it , thier relationship carried the entire drama with plot lines we've seen been don't over 100 times already but if you're into this TO EACH THEIR OWN

I hope you're hungry for nothing

It's like you put every food that you ever loved into a one bowl and eat all of it at one sitting, you would think that it would taste good but no you puke at the end because mixing that amount of food is abviously gonna make you sick. This drama is like a mix of every fantasy romance drama that has ever been made so cliche, so predictable, so boring... If you're gonna make this psychopath murderer thing a big part of the storyline maybe not make it too on the nose, leave a little bit place for viewers to wonder this makes watching experience so boring beacause you can clearly figure out what's gonna happen next. Why would I wanna watch a show where I already know what's going to happen in it. No plot twist no nothing.
The chemistry between the main leads was undeniable I'll give you that but I kept expecting him to turn into a real human again when he comes back, so they can finish their love story with a proper ending at least in this lifetime but no that didn't happen. I almost thought he was going to have a breakthrough or something while talking to that man he had a deal with at the subway about being a real human but no that didn't happen either

Cool premise but lost the plot

Around halfway through it becomes clear that the writers have no idea what they want to do with this show, so every two episodes is a useless conflict that creates unnecessary angst before the male lead resolves it with... plot armour? All intrigue built in the first few episodes slowly goes away as the plot becomes more and more ridiculous. All of the characters lose all of their interesting characterizations in favour of a trope-filled plot. And while I love a good trope, this show is all tropes no substance. The stakes don't feel real, and no matter how well the characters act, the writing is too bad for me to buy into the story.

I’ve seen this film before

I think there’s definitely an audience for this out there — if you are a fan of fantasy mixed into real life and adult romance (think Goblin, Legend of the Blue Sea, My Love From the Star, those classics) I think you’d really enjoy this.

For me, it was just okay. I think I prefer my romance a little more down-to-earth and conversational; a lot of the more flashy scenes where they were saving each other didn’t really have a strong emotional impact on me and felt borrowed from the aforementioned classics, while the more domestic scenes where they were talking to each other or working together were stronger but not enough for these characters to set themselves apart from other dramas.

Additionally, and this is absolutely personal preference, I think I’m just not the biggest fan of linking saeguk and modern plots with the past lives and reincarnation premise. It’s been done to death (See Goblin, and most recently A Good Day To Be A Dog and The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract) and I just can’t find it in myself to care that much about their past story, since that’s all it is: past. Our non-immortal main characters have lived different experiences. I understand how it adds a level of angst to the leads (as if destiny works against them) as well as upping the stakes (from basic company politics, for example, to actual death) but it always just feels like a tangent.

With all that being said, this was just okay. I didn’t care that much for the modern plot about the company, but also didn’t really find the backstory to be all that memorable. The main characters are likable enough; Dohee is strong, and Guwon is a convincing demon that balances between being heartless and hilarious, but overall they’re both kind of cookie cutter characters.

This ended up being sort of “I started it so I might as well finish it” kind of show for me.

It was great at first but it became a major letdown

The drama was wonderful at first, it was entertaining and it was painful to have to wait until the next episode.

The chemistry between the actors was great, as well as the aesthetic. However it wasn't enough to save the drama in the end.

The plot became lame and uninteresting after the two lead settled in their happy life and the revenge against the villain seemed to be forgotten.

As much as Do Do Hee and Gu Wong's sweet and funny moments were a delight to watch at first, it turned to a tasteless comedy that didn't bring anything special anymore because it didn't relieved the stress of the episodes as it did at the beginning.
Speaking of comedy relief, the gang could have been a nice touch but it was under used and didn't live up to its potential.

About the villain : it was interesting to search clues on his identities at first but the last couple of episodes made him mediocre, I doubt he will leave a long lasting impression on the kdrama's villains' book

The plot really went downhill after the episode centered on Gu Won's past life, as interesting it might have been, it broke the pace of the story and starting episode 13, it only went worse.

Episode 14 : unnecessary breakup, and the fact that Gu Won killed Do Hee's parents didn't actually brought much to the plot, especially so late in the story

Episode 15 : bad and disappointing

Episode 16 : also disappointing

It seems like the story and its characters lost their sparks and became of shadow of what they could have been

Good to Unwatchable

The script and acting and direction IMO made it impossible for me to watch after EP 09

I really liked it up till the two main characters got romantically connected then it was so cringe I could not watch it and I love romcoms but IMO it was poor in every way.

The female lead should be better than this, but it was shot as if she had not been acting from the age of 10.

The terrible presentation of the two lovers was incredibly bad, poor storylines (Script), poor acting of these romantic storylines (Both Actors) and awful direction (Director).
I tried watching the remaining episodes, but I find I am skipping 80% of the dialogue, it's so bad.
Stopped watching it after EP 14 moved on to many other much better drama's.

Go to drama for a badass hero and heroine!

I basically loved every aspect of the drama except the ending episode where his re-entry in the story could have been made more interesting and kind of sudden and not just got him there standing next to her on the rocks after she made a deal with him... Loved the concept of God and how even she had no idea how things would turn out to be by the end. The concept that even though demon or evil entities get powers from God, the fact that even they require God's help at some point in their journey is so well portrayed.

As boring as watching paint dry

As the saying goes: "Expectations are the root of disappointment."

Despite the promising casts, this drama fell short of expectations, leaving me thoroughly disappointed. While it had an intriguing start, the narrative took a nosedive as it progressed. The perplexity of Dohee's decision to give up the fight for the company remains inexplicable to me. With a demon as her companion, what could possibly induce fear in her? :[

The narrative, midway through, hinted at potential plot twists surrounding the villains, aiming to engage the audience's imagination. However, this attempt at complexity fell flat once again, failing to deliver the anticipated twists and leaving the audience with unfulfilled expectations.

And... The final episodes added little novelty to the narrative, presenting a familiar plot that lacked originality. The forced happy ending for the couple felt like a repetitive trope. Truly a wasted potential. I feel bad for the casts.

Never Experienced a drama like this before

Wow k dramas really can bring me to tears like no other. This drama has done something I have not personally experienced from any other. Let’s get into it.

First off, love the character dynamic of the Main Leads(MLs)
Headstrong business woman with a traumatic past, and a eerie present with a hidden vulnerability( She desires a stable, and reliable protector/ “salvation” is what she calls ML).

And a Carefree business man who is also a very powerful demon who sees humans as insignificant soul banks.Until he meets FML of course ;)

Both putting on a front of commitment-phobia by the way.(in the beginning)

~ This is a long review~ proceed if you like to read

[PSA]I’m only going to speak on what I liked because what I disliked is very trivial now that I’ve finished the series.

*The tattoo and power transfer was unexpected but it made the story more interesting

*I liked that the relationship build up wasn’t rushed or slow and it didn’t overshadow the storyline, it actually gave it some dimension, kind of like a soft pillow after being punched in the gut:)

*ML pursues first, despite FML being attracted first. He fell harder and He fell in love pretty quick for a demon with commitment issues. It was cute.

*ML was very willing to protect the FML and help her with all the BS going on with her “family” despite pretending to only care because of the tattoo

Now for the parts that really surprised me;)

In the typical drama, after the MLs becomes an official couple, there usually like 2 intimate scenes and then a random breakup and then something crazy happens, they get back together, kiss and the end.

We rarely get to see a drama where the MLs becomes a actual couple and we as the viewers get to witness the full intimacy of their love.

This drama does that!!! Theres cuddles, 1000s of hugs and kisses(exaggerations but close enough). There’s super cute couple moments and funny moments and cute nicknames. It’s was really like watching a actual couple. Two supermodels as a couple ?. And when I say kiss I mean all kinds, pecks, full on making out, slow kisses ,hard but tender kisses even passionate ones with actual emotion and not stiff at ?OMG I was f”*cking dazed !!! And then the pillow talk and sweet nothings!! Ahhhhhh! And let’s not talk about the fact that the ML lead a horizontal tango right after the first kiss. He was HOOKED! So romantic. When I say watching this felt like peeping into an actual loving married couples life sometimes…I’m sweating, and manifesting ??Please send me a Gu-won.

The last thing this drama did that I have not seen before is…
It didn’t trying to completely change Gu-won’s baddie character?. Let me explain

Gu won is a demon, hear that? DEMON! the devil to be precise. He makes his deals, takes souls and he has done it well for 200 years. And it’s not at all moral. At all. He’s not a saint and doesn’t pretend to be one outside of protecting his wife(Do-hee). He views humans as nothing more than ticking clocks. He can be very ruthless and almost villain like at times. and this stays his stance throughout the entire series. I REALLY liked that because I’ve noticed a theme in dramas where if one of the Main characters isn’t a favorable
or “good person” they do a complete 180 and rebirth them by the end of the series, completely overhauling their original description. We don’t always have to have saint like MLs, he’s a demon for the love of..nvm… The FML did not run away crying because she saw the MLs ruthless behavior she understood what he was even before they got married; it shook her a bit when she saw those red eyes and him air chocking a woman to death but in the end she was willing to stand by her man for evil or for worse haha, he was actually the coward there. I think she understood that he was crazy af and the LITERAL DEVIL to the world but he was her husband and a cuddly bear protecter WHO WOULD SACRIFICE IT ALL FOR HER, ya know. that some deep loyalty fr. So sweet Tehe. Like I’ve literally never watched a drama where the FML just let the ML do his thing without crying and running away. Very different.

Now don’t misconstrue my point. Gu won had major character development but it didn’t turn him from a demon to a rebirthed human or angel. He was still very much a demon at the end, he still reaped souls and made deals, he just became a more mature demon with a tiny bit more of a moral compass and a sense of purpose.

Lastly for anyone who cares, the side character weren’t a bore. I was very much entertained with the antics. The villains even had dimension.

This drama also made 16 episodes feel like 30 but in a pleasant way. Some ppl are complaining it was drawn out but we literally got a full on 10 different Acts in a 16 episode series. That’s talent. No part was dull and it all connected. anyways

Highly recommend 10/10
