Ip Man is a 2008 Hong Kong semi biographical martial arts film very loosely based on the life of Yip Man, a grandmaster of the martial art Wing Chun and master of Bruce Lee. Set in 1930's Foshan, China, an area known for its martial arts prowess, Ip Man lives the regal life of a prosperous martial arts master. Ip Man devotes the majority of his time honing his skills in the art of Wing Chung, while living blissfully with wife and child in a mansion like home. On a regular basis, masters of the many martial art clubs comes to Ip's home to challenge him to a duel. These duels are all done in the secrecy of Ip's home, as Ip Man is a modest man and never wants to embarrass his peers - because they will inevitably get their !@#$%^&* handed to them by Master Ip. Then, Ip Man's world gets turned upside down by the outbreak of the second Sino-Japanese War and the sub-sequent invasion of China by the Japanese Imperial Army. Edit Translation

This movie is perfect in every way. I loved the story that is filled with action and is totally rewatchable to me. I love this movie and watch it all the time. The acting was amazing and the music went with the movie making the movie even better. This movie never gets boring like there are those action movies where there is like 30 mins nonstop talking and bores you this movie is very interesting and filled with action keeping you interested untill the end. After you finish this movie you will want to watch Ip Man2.

this movie was bloody good, the best martial arts movie av seen mainly coz its based on a true story of wing chun the mentor for bruce lee. i have rewatched it several times and i always make sure my friends have seen this. the story is well written and the direction is excellent esp with donnie yen. hes a calm collected guy/sifu who is silent but dangerous. he teaches wing chun which requires minimal body movements but its deadly. some guy goes around beating up all the martial arts teachers just to prove that he's better until he gets to ip man and this is where the action starts. the end is also i would stand up rewind and scream like a watchn a match. apart from anything else going around in the story, the action is all that mattered. you will seriously enjoy this trust me. and dont forget to watch part two it gets better too
