Makino Tsukushi is the only poor student at Eitoku Gakuen, the school of the ridiculously rich and privileged that is ruled by Flower 4 or F4, a group of four boys who come from extremely powerful families: Domyoji Tsukasa, the leader and heir of the Domyoji World Finance Group; Hanazawa Rui, the introverted son of a large company; Nishikado Sojiro, a player who is the heir of a tea ceremony school; and Mimasaka Akira, a madam killer with ties to the underground. If a student gets on the F4's bad side, he/she gets a red notice and is bullied and driven out of school. Makino hopes to pass her days quietly-- without drawing any attention to herself-- but one day, she stands up to Domyoji in defense of her friend. The next day, Makino gets the dreaded red notice. Even though she is harassed, Makino decides to keep going to school because she is a "tough weed". She declares war right back on the F4. Her resolve gets the attention of her crush Hanazawa Rui and oddly enough, rouses romantic feelings in her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa. The series is based on the Japanese shoujo manga "Hana Yori Dango" (Boys Before Flowers) by Kamio Yoko.

    AHHH I LOVE THIS DRAMA!!!!!!! So much better than the Korean version if you ask me.

    Story: So if you've read the manga, watched the anime, or have seen either the Korean/ Japanese version you already know the story. For others the story may seem a bit weird but it has a lot of heart and it totally grabs your attention. Its a romantic comedy so its a story based around love.

    Acting: Ahh soo much better than the Korean version, much much much better. Though the cast wasn't as pretty as the Korean version they were excellent actors.     I watched all the remakes of Hana Yori Dango : the korean, the chinese and the taiwanese but the jap version still and will always be the best ever! it's true that the korean have a better casting but i totally hated the lead actress. Anyway, the story is known and as everyone agree it's a nice story with great events that will make u anticipate more, the music was nice. What i truly blame on this season that it's too short and what i truly like is Domyouji's foolness OMG Matsumoto Jun did his role perfectly no mistakes at all i defenetly fallen in love with his character in this drama so cute, so funny and most of all so childish^_^.

  • Both Dramas have storylines who are pretty simmilar. The male leads are both Guys with rough personalities who come from rich families. Both male leads are Heirs to their family company. As the shows progresses the stories come to be about forbidden love between a rich male and a poor female.

  • Similar themes of how wealth affects a relationship except the roles are partly swapped. In BBF the male character is misunderstood while in HMS the girl is. HMS portrays a unique pairing with an extremely nerdy Lin Da Lung and becomes far more of a comedy. Also, HMS focuses only on the main couples interactions.

    At first I thought: Wow. This is so depressing! The bullying in first few episodes was just disgusting..!! But then it took a completely different direction and I've fallen in love with this drama. How come that it was so HILARIOUS in one minute and then so ROMANTIC nad touching ?? I can't think of any non-asian tv series that would mix cheesy jokes and love in such a good way.
    Oh, and I must agree with many ppl who already gave the actors 10/10.

    Loved, love and will always love this HYD version the most.

    The cast is just perfect, especially Oguri Shun as Hanazawa Rui, Inoue Mao as Makino, Matsumoto Jun as Tsukasa, Matsuda Shota as Soujiro... OK, so it would be shorter if I just said that EVERYBODY was great and ideal for the roles they were playing. Seriously, for me this is the only HYD version worthy of the original (meaning manga/anime).

    Best school drama of all time i prefer this to all the other versions Im a Jun Stan ,so this the role he rocked so hard ! I only wished that the side characters had more of a story like in the Korean version ,but overall this drama is one i re watch a lot.

    first Asian drama i ever watched ^^ (as is the case of many)Hana dan is what introduced me to the wonderful world of Asian pop culture. Back then I loved it purely for the story and acting. Now I like it for that plus the music and the cast XD. watched all three;1, 2 and movie :D

    this was my least favorite of the F4 shows I didn't even bother with season 2 because the first scene offended me. meteor garden told the best story while BBF was beautiful to watch

      I really don't believe a guy who started out trying to help would scream at someone like that when he knew she couldn't speak the language.. also the video was blurry and slow to load so I just quit watching
