just a quick rage review... (this is for those who have watched the two former versions of GOTFF)

i will make a more believable review soon..

    1. from my ultra POV, this is an uber lame attempt to capture or remake the intensity of the story that showed by the ghibli movie.

    2. very pathetic movie... the actors doesnt make an effort in doing their best and they looks like they are just reciting the script.

    3. the tv special of GOTFF is more movie like than this film

    4. Im sorry for those who gave this version a 10/10...

    5. feel free to object and i think i will get "not helpful"

ps: my favorite scene in the original were borifying epicfailness on this.

This movie sheds light on the events that took place in the cold war. Things we would refuse to admit. The moment when children are left behind and people only care about themselves. This one will make you cry for hours on end. It is the beautiful story of dedication of a brother to his young sister, even after everyone turned their back on them in their time of need.

Just because I gave a not helpful to Go-to-the-Extreme, you should use this very touching film as inspiration to learn more about history and what actually happened to children like the children in this story. This movie sheds light on World War II, and while I'm not going to explain the connections between the Cold War and World War II, I am going say it is unrelated to this movie.

all i can say is i'm pretty disappointed.. the highlights of the tragic events are not well done in the movie..(ex. burying setsuko's body) and the lead actor is so lame in his acting. I expected this movie will make me cry..but it wasn't.

But the aunt acts perfectly fine..i still hate her..:P

I know this is a long time after you posted here, but I just stumbled upon this movie and I did make a post in case others made the same mistake you did. This movie doesn't take place during the Cold War, but during World War II. While a timeline of the Cold War would begin in 1945, it is referencing Germany and the Soviet Union after World War II, not Japan. I won't bore you with a lot of details, but you sound moved by this movie and probably interested in learning more about the atrocities committed by Americans and the horrors the Japanese suffered during events like the firebombings.
