[edit]Synopsis

Jang Jae Hun (Im Joo Hwan) is a high school dropout who roams the streets at night with his two best friends pickpocketing drunkards. He accidentally causes an accident that leads to the death of a stranger. Park Tae Hee (Kim Ji Won) lives in the countryside with her grandfather, and inherited her musical talents from her father. Ha Do Sung (Daesung) composes songs in anonymity as rock star HADES. Having been abandoned at a young age by his ambitious mother, he tries to live quietly without drawing attention to himself. Kim Byeong Gun (Jo Jung Suk) is the odd one out in his family of businessmen, wishing to pursue a career in musicals - despite his debilitating fear of performing in front of others. Eun Chae Young (Jang Hee Jin) is the experienced actress, having been in the industry for 10 years. However, she has the desire to prove herself on the musical stage, rather than a movie actress with a pretty face. What she doesn't expect is to be challenged by Oh Doo Ri (Im Joo Eun), an equally talented actress who prefers to spend her time playing first-person shooting computer games than rehearsing. These young adults end up together in the musical department of Haneul Arts University, and find themselves under the guidance of unconventional professor Sunwoo Young (Oh Man Suk). With each passing day, they get a chance to learn what it is to be a 'star,' and to prove to the people around them that they can succeed in their chosen path.

If you like romantic drama, this is not the best one.
If you like comedy drama, this is quite funny, but there are more dramas out there that can make you laugh louder.
If you like happily-ever-after-ending drama, this will let you down, don't expect too much.
If you like sad drama, this is not enough to make your tears come out
If you like action drama, you're not supposed to end up here reading the review :p

    But,

If you look for different taste of Kdrama,
If you look for great performances,
If you look for beautiful soundtracks,
This is the one that worth to watch!!

I just finished watching the series 2 minutes ago. All I can say is: OMG!

At first, I was very hesitant to watch the drama since I thought it would be disappointing one. I read lots and lots of reviews about this and they all said it was good. Now, well look at me, i'm writing a review about this already.

This drama may not have the very satisfying or perfect ending but at least we can formulate our own ending.

This drama will make you laugh --- a lot; and cry --- a lot too.

It doesn't have the best romance, the best acting, the best music or whatever but I can say they have the best bonding and will surely touch your hearts. ;)

The first song in the first episode is from a very nice movie called Les Choristes. I recommend both that movie and its OST- it's beautiful.

Well I love music-dramas and I love Dream High 1&2, but now I'm watching What's Up and I'm on ep. 15! So soon!!! But I feel that this drama is way better then the both seasons of Dream High togheter, haha! This drama is more real and good. Dream High, is only funny and cute.
But NOTHING beats Shut Up Flower Boy Band! Ehm well maybe Beethoven Virus! ^^

This is the 2nd Kdrama I watched (after Full House in 2005) from ep1-end since I actually can't bear the melodramatic genre of Kdramas. The only reason I picked this out was Joo Hwan. He is too cute for being almost 30 yo man!!

At first, I just wanted to see his face and acting. But then, I really fell for this drama simply because of its music. I think everyone would directly ask to themselves "what's the title of this song?" once the music played. Now I understand why Kpop become more and more popular these days ;)

I like the the first 7 episodes because they still focused on what being part of musical is. The later talked more about the roles' private life and it made this drama "similar" to other Kdramas. Thank God, Oh Doo Ri stood out on the last 3 episodes and made this drama back to its musical things. Though, the ending was too weird for me

Anyway, this is one of my favs: 9/10

Where can I find the sings they sing in the show ? I have already find Lunatic but the others no... I'm frustrated ! This drama really deserves an OST (and that I can listen everytime and everywhere) !!!

I have a question! Im Joo Hwan went to the army, May 2011 and this drama was aired, December 2011? How'd they film this with Im Joo Hwan and a winter setting? :-/

What I love about what's up is the connection that develops between the characters and how they connect with us as an audience. I felt like each of them could exist in the real world and even when things were dramatic they all seemed to react in a real way according to their personalities. It's weird to say but I love the characters more than the show itself. I could watch them just goofing around all day and I would be satisfied.

Yeah, What's Up definitely had better acting. Not having a cast full of Idols makes a difference, lol
