You're Beautiful

The management company of the idol group A.N.JELL insisted on adding a new singer to the group as the lead vocal, Tae Kyung's voice was hurting. However,the new member, Mi Nam, had to go to the States to repair a botched eye job just before signing the contract. His agent came up with the idea of having his twin sister, Mi Nyu,to stand in for him and pretend that she was her brother. The two of them grew up in an orphanage and Mi Nyu, who was all set to become a nun, agreed to this charade as she didn't want to spoil her brother's chance of fame which would make it easier to look for their mother.

So, I've been really holding off writing reviews for my favorite dramas, but I felt that it was time to let the MDL community know what I thought about this drama ;) I love the story of this drama, because it gives normal people a chance to see what the life of an idol really is like, well, as alike as a drama would show. The story is cute, but the writing is a little "Hm." There are many times throughout this drama that the character has to verbally say what they are thinking, usually things that didn't need to be verbally told when the audience just could have guessed or figured out naturally. I loved the chemistry between the two leads. They're the sort of couple you would never imagine to fall for each other; a wannabe bad boy, and a nun...hm. I thought that the cast did great. It was cool to see some FT Island and CNBlue, and I liked how the idols in this drama weren't particularly the main leads, but still had an important role in this drama. I loved the characters in this drama. Each one was unique in their own way. I've already rewatched this drama more than once, so I really loved it, but on a non biased level, I would rate the rewatch value at 6. It was a cute drama, which I loved, but I thought it was lacking a bit in the writing department. By the end of the drama I was literally plugging my ears when the dialogue turned to the characters voicing out their thoughts. Overall, adorable drama. I highly recommend seeing it. Don't let the weird character lines bug you one bit. I loved this drama. It was cute, and lighthearted, and one of the most innocent romances I have ever seen. read more

I dropped this Show, I'm not rude but I guess I have this stigma on the main characters that's what took the blow in loosing interest.

The plot isn't all that new since I've already watched more than 1 show using a gender bender theme, although the beginning was strong the first episode started out good, then I encountered the Main characters of course she's going to end up with guy that usually bullies her but secretly is falling in love with her, unconsciously.
I think that dude looks kind of old compared to the other members of their band. And discoveries were too speedy. It's not a meticulous disguise since at some parts of the first episodes where she started acting like a guy, she didn't wear any support to decrease her bust size, you can tell by looking, and they made her wear fitting shorts and pants which emphasized the the anteroposterior diameter of her hips. Although she had a sort of appeal looking like a bishounen, I do commend her for that.

Another thing I didn't like is that they don't have a Bassist in their band, it's dull not having one, the other is on the lead singer he might do rhythm but he rarely change chords during performances, you mean a single chord for a whole song? (I'm exaggerating am I?) It just feels weird letting him have a guitar and he just, whatever man, respects for the instruments, If he knows how to play it then I blame cinematography,

I just hoped she ended up with the other guy I guess haha! Anyways plus points for this series it has its own quirkiness and perks that appeals to general public. I'm not saying it's lousy, it's decent enough yet not for the viewers that have a more sophisticated taste, but if you're looking for a quick laugh and perky love story this might be one for you. :) read more

Ikemen Desu Ne

Ikemen Desu Ne is the Japanese remake of You're Beautiful. The great thing about it is that although it does have similar situations and concepts and follows the same basic storyline it isn't a carbon copy of the original. There are noticeable changes and situations that weren't in the original.

Coffee Prince

Both drama's feature a female lead who gets dragged into a situation that pressures her to pretend to be male. I also really loved the chemistry between the female lead and her male friends in both. Coffee Prince is a bit more mature, but both romances are truly endearing.

When i read your review amrita828, i think i understood most of your reasons to put this marks to this show. I just disagree with one thing (just saying it you're not supposed to agree) when you say that Jang Geun Seok makes "too many exaggerated facial expressions", isn't it making it more real? I mean i have seen much more ridiculous faces with my friends or family naturally behaving than in an act, it's when things are too beautiful that it look like fake. Well maybe i'm wrong, but based on my life's experience it seems nearly real. Only my point of view though...

It was also my first drama, which lead me to the addiction of korean dramas. But as it was the first, it just might remain still the best for me. The actors and the music are just the best. Storyline - unique, deep, romantic, sad, yet funny and just amazingly exciting. :):):)

You're beautiful is the kind of drama that you would recommand your kids to watch it when they grow up bcz its charm never dies ^^

This drama is what happens when Hana Yori Dango and Hana Kimi make babies.

Also the music was awesome. BGM was much better than the Japanese version (which I watched first, so I am not biased).

ok what can i say? this was truly amazing!!
it was hilarious and emotional and just plain loveable.
The cast were great and music too ^^
I dont know how many times i watched this. and shall keep rewatching it :)

this was my first drama!! and it was truly THE BEST !!! even though i watched this drama a long time ago , im still not over it and even now i re watch it when ever i have free time, or if im sad it really cheer ups my mood . go mi nams naiveness, shin woo oppas sweetness , jeremy's adorableness, hwang tae oppa's meaness :P i miss it alot . hope they'll make another drama together .... im really looking forward to that ....... any ways to go mi nam and my oppas - FIGHTING!! <3
