Sungkyunkwan Scandal is set in Sungkyunkwan University in the late Joseon era during the reign of King Jeongjo, revolving around the exploits and love stories of four youths. When her younger brother's illness worsens and their family is in danger of being evicted from their house for lack of money, Kim Yoon Hee enters the school under his name, disguised as a boy in her desperation to support him. There, she becomes friends with the intelligent and upright Lee Sun Joon, the playboy Goo Yong Ha and rebellious Moon Jae Shin.

I started SS when i was on my travels cos of the hype I had heard good things about it...I found it bit slow but after reassurances from kamz & I think C4U i stuck with it till about ep 10 when I was tempted to drop it, the only reason I didn’t is that SS was available on YouTube & whilst I was in Asia I had dodgy wifi connections & also a lot of sites that I could access in UK I couldn’t access over there even Dramacrazy, & even the sites i could access the buffering speed was slow that i lost all patience so as SS was on YT with a relatively quick buffering speed I had little choice but to watch it I left it at ep 18 when I got back to UK & I recently decided to finish it cos it was only 2 more hours out of my life lol.

The above explains why I watched it haha generally Im not a masochist & drop a drama quicksmart if I dont like it.

OK my views on the drama itself the main couples chemistry I didn’t find convincing also the so called second lead Yoo Ah In I hardly saw him languishing away for his lost love he was too busy running around on rooftops with his red letters lol….

The story wasn’t compelling enough to hold my interest over 20 episodes perhaps if it had been condensed into 16 episodes it might have been more punchy. Don’t get me wrong I am a fan of sageuks & loved Iljimae, Chuno & The Princess Man – SS just wasn’t in the same vein & I found it disappointing overall I still gave it a 7 out of 10 though.

The best thing about the whole drama was the lovely Song Joong Ki his mannerisms & way of speaking I found totally captivating. I also found his love for YAI endearing he truly cared for him! I found THAT story more fascinating than the main couple & I like Yoochun as well, maybe hes got the same problem as Kim Hyun Joong who doesn’t come across well as an actor either although to be fair to Yoochun I have only seen him act in SS & KHJ I have seen him “act” in a couple of dramas & I remain unimpressed.

I know plenty of people loved this drama & it was pleasant enough just not exciting or angsty enough for my tastes…as I say each to their own. read more

If you want something refreshing and have a "feel good" series with a bunch of gorgeous guys,this one is for you!

Story: This was the first historical drama that I had watched and I had no regrets for it to be the first,I loved it so much! The story gave me the school days vibe, very youthful but at the same time mature with a very unique touch of Joseon era. Every episode is so entertaining, most of the time funny, sweet and cute! Though the theme of a girl dressing as a guy is not new, still the story was made to be different than the usual as the girl has a very strong character and the main guy was so innocent that most of the time it's hilarious! The romance is sooooo cute, with one of the best ending, I definitely love this show!

Acting/Cast: I love the Quartet! They are so nice to look at as they act! Their roles fit them; one innocently geek, the other playful and the other so reserved yet so gentle, I want to have all of them. The casting and portrayals were done well,I love how the four formed and developed their characters in the story.

Music:It was good, really matches the story and has a smooth feeling..

Rewatch Value: Recommended to rewatch if you want something fun, sweet and cute.

Overall: This is really a good romantic comedy drama with the sweetest moments and loveable characters..:)) read more

Tamra, The Island

they are both Joseon era dramas but not too heavy on the historical parts ; they both have very good looking actors, beautifull images and good soundtrack ; they both are funny and full of emotions at the same time, with great dialogues... try to get past the 1st ep of Tamra and you won't regret it

- Both are historical fusion dramas, meaning they are set in history, but are directed with a modern feel. The main leads (Im Joo Hwan, Seo Woo) are adorable together, and the set is beautiful, as always is the case with historical dramas.

both deal with women cross dressing to see justice realized, sungkyunkwan scandal takes the cross dressing much farther though.

- Both deal with cross-dressing themes. My Bratty Princess, w/Jang Na ra and Alec Su, is set at the imperial court and deal with a girl of noble house who dresses up as a sort of a street robin hood and thus meets the emperor and a prince.. An unlikely friendship develops between them.

The only possible complaint I can make about this drama is I got really tired of the president's two lackeys with their 3 Stooges-esque expressions. Thankfully, they are toned down a bit as the story progresses. Everything else about this show was awesome.

Go Yong Ha is officially my favorite character ever. Song Joong Ki is one seriously charming and talented guy.

I love how Song Joong Ki (Go yong ha) Winks, that it makes my heart pound. :"> Hihihih! Also, I love Lee Sun Joon, it also makes me tingly when he ang kim yoon shik gets sweet. :"> Hahaha!

okay, so it took me like a year to decide whether to watch or not xD but woah. You have to watch. it's actually so addicting!you wont regret. and its coming from me who hardly ever watches historical dramas ^^

I thoroughly enjoyed this one (until the last few minutes of the ending,which left me confused). My most memorable scene is when in the elevator the two leads attempt a kiss and can't bc of their hats. The male lead then takes her hat off in such a way, that I never imagined would make me feel like a voyeur. This is the ONLY Segeuk drama I've ever seen and one of my favorite Kdramas overall.

This is the only drama on my list (so far) that has hit rank 10. NEVER have I loved the 'Love Rival' so much. I was very pleased with the characters reactions showed by Lee Sun Joon and Moon Jae Shin, (When she was found out- unlike in Coffee Prince and You're beautiful.) Watch watch watch!! C:

Well, I like cross-dressing theme and it was a nice watch. Not too fond of the main male lead, he was kind of wishy-washy but overall I did like this story. I like the traditional period setting. Ending was nice I HATE sequels but I don't really care for this drama all that much so whatever.

i had to read all 5 reviews and even tough i found the first 2 very helpful i`m still not sure if i should watch this, i`m really not into historical dramas but since many of you said it`s good (that`s what i saw on dramacrazy too) i`m still 50% - 50% so what should i do? T__T
