"Dong Yi" is a historical drama based on the life of Dong-yi later known as Suk-bin Choi (Han Hyo-Joo). Choi worked in the royal palace as a lowly water maid. King Sok-jong then selected Choi as his concubine. Choi would then give birth to Yeong-jo, the second son of King Sok-jong and the future king of Joseon. After the birth of Yeong-jo, Dong-yi would become Suk-bin.

    A must watch this show traped me in ma room around my PC for hours on hours even up till 3am durin the wk n i gots work to go to @ 6am. i luv the script it kept me so interested, the actors were great. i got a mix of action, love, jokes and suspense >>> full 100 sssseeeelllll oooofffff .........................................................................................................................................................................................

    Dong Yi is this long, epic drama. Admittedly most people feel a little scared to watch it because of its length but it's definitely worth the time spent to watch it.

    The drama is definitely an eye opener. There are a lot of shocking moments in this drama where you go my dear god would people actually do that! They're appalling but it really gives you perspective on how seriously politics was taken back then. Also it gives great insight into the slave class and how they were treated in Korea. The drama does a great job of bringing light to that. On top of that the writers did an excellent job of weaving in romance where possible among the tragedies and mysteries of the palace.     read more

  • Both dramas are historical.The love stories are very similar: between a poor girl and the king. Despite the fact that she is poor, she is also intelligent and very beautiful so she gains the king's attention and heart. The OST is extraordinary! Both of them worth watching!

  • They are both Joseon-centric Historical dramas with emotionally and mentally strong, intelligent female characters as the leads. They also both contain similar values and have overlapping cast in places. (Dong Yi takes place before Dae Jang Geum...)

    I was very disappointed with this drama.I couldn't like any of the characters.Not even Dong Yi.She seemed too idealistic and impractical.The most annoying character for me was the stupid King.

      haaha yes the drama is vastly overrated all in all. I kind of get what you;re saying, she had those noble beind all means inclinayions...but franklyi already forgot all about this drama dn I dont want to think about it again..too bad though, ji jin hee's acting skills feel wasted on it and especially his ridiculously written role.

    Bae Su Bin has captured me with his role- i pity him, he's much more of a man than the king, though i love ji jin hee too. Dong Yi is a great character, though. it's a good story.

      it's just that king seems so completely clueless, especially when that vixen is around, it;s annoying. Really, he's clearly quite kind hearted and academically acomplished - at least- but useless sometimes....urgh.

    Well, I was unsure about this drama as it has so many episodes... but I do not regret to have decided to go through it! It is really addicting once you start to watch it... Strongly recommended!!
