Best Life Act for Now

Note: i haven't started the anime nor the manga yet
I LOVE LOVE this Live Action of YuYu Hakusho, it even makes me whos not an anime watcher want to watch the anime!
Worth the hype, let me explain a bit, based of the first time i watched it.
- The CGI they used is super cool, i was shocked with the crash in ep 1 LOL.
- The story packed up really nice for 5 eps. Compact story.
- Nice fight scenes.
- GODLY details
- Nice choice of actors.
I binge this series, when its done, i feel like i wanted more! Genuinely enjoyed it.

Good Enough

Japanese Drama '' Yu Yu Hakusho '' is a japanese live action of the popular manga series.

The drama follows an interesting story and does a great job with the action scenes and the fantasy element. The CGI were also nice enough to support the story and the costumes and make up were really good as well.

The performances, moreover, were excellent by everyone in the cast. The chemistry of the main leads was also great and helped with the enjoyment of the drama.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

Give it a try

This review is based SOLELY on my own opinion/enjoyment of this short drama. I haven't read/watched either the manga or the anime.

What I liked:
-The special effects were good.
-I really liked the stylized outfits that the main characters wore. School uniforms with a twist?
-I liked the cinematic coloring. I don't know quite how to explain it, but the blue/gray hues used throughout, especially in the dark fight scenes, were effective.
-It was a short five episodes.

What let me down:
-Lack of character development. The focus in this drama was fighting "the big bad", and there was A LOT of fighting. Unfortunately, I felt that the characters took a back seat to the violence. As a result, I didn't feel too invested in what happened to any of the characters.
-Overacting. I think this may have been due to the fact that this was purposely comic book-like. Everything was exaggerated. The fighting, the facial expressions, the yelling, etc.

I think that if someone enjoys anime/manga, they would probably like this drama.

It had promise

The fight scenes were excellent as they brought many aspects into it like each character having their individuals characteristic that matched each of their personality. Hated that there were only 5 episodes as it never explains Keidi and Kumara and the sister stories and how they came upon the demon world. I wished we were told how the demon world came to exist and the different types of it. The betting reminded me of squid games as they similarly betted who they thought was going to win which j found boring as it was recycled the exact same way

Bom

I viewed it as though it were something else entirely.

Learning that there would only be five episodes crushed my heart. I thought we would see more of our heroes on the screen. Having watched the anime in elementary, I wanted to learn more about them. It would be interesting to view them from a different angle and age.

To my dismay, it wasn’t the case. You will see the lost opportunity of the live action if you have watched the anime, which I highly recommend. And even though I love the “Yu Yu Hakusho” anime, that doesn’t mean I should be dismissive of the live action version. I viewed it as though it were something else entirely. To be honest, I enjoyed it. I like how they introduced our characters and made the story flow naturally even though they altered some major plot elements and arcs.

Fast and fun

December 2023
Wow! I love fantasy and action, which this has by the bucket full.

Very fast paced once the action starts (that doesn't take too long), violent, at times gory, but it gets away with it, as it's such comic hero stuff.

I loved the bizarre characters, the weird fashion of Yusuke and Kazuma (kind of 80s) and the quirky feel that J-dramas like this almost always have; I mean, a pacifier sucking Jnr God? Fabulous.

I read a lot of on-line Chinese fantasy novels and many include Beasts that can transform into human form, which are also in this, so really my thing.

Aspects (a gambling part especially), reminded me of Squid Game (or perhaps that should be the other way around, seeing as the Manga debuted in 1991 and the anime a year later), but only for that relatively small content.

The VFX are sometimes a little bumpy, but overall it's pretty good.

I just loved that it's fast, furious and fun. The 'hero', Urameshi Yusuki, is labelled a delinquent, but is a perfect example of attitude, and the book's cover, not representing the true story. People are quick to judge and lump people together (especially when in the negative, or different/more powerful, which leads to fear and hate) and that's certainly addressed here. Keiko, Yusuke's childhood friend, can certainly hold her own too and isn't the usual simpering female we often see in certain J-dramas.

I ended up besotted with the character Kurama / Minamino Shuichi (Shison Jun). Totally delicious!

At only 5 episodes, it's certainly worth a go. I wonder if there will be more.

(I've not read or seen them, but understand the manga and anime, sadly, got wrapped up quite suddenly in 1994, with less than satisfactory endings, due to affects the pressures put on the writer by his publishers, had on his health.)

Perfect for a quick Christmas Binge

A fun action series that captures the essence of an anime/manga, featuring impressive fight scenes and endearing characters. Despite having only five episodes, it manages to generate considerable excitement for forthcoming installments. However, due to the limited number of episodes, certain aspects like character development for antagonists, side characters, and world-building are somewhat rushed. A potential second season could provide more room for these elements to unfold. In summary, it's an excellent series that sparks anticipation for the show's future and elicits my interest in exploring the anime—a perfect quick watch over the Christmas holiday.

Fun to binge

Having never watched the anime, I went into this purely based off the trailer which caught my attention. This was simple to watch and had a lot of action packed into each episode. You can definitely see how they packed as much as they could, and each episode felt like a mini movie.
The stylistic choice of this show made this a fun weekend watch for me, and while I'm disappointed we only got 5 episodes, it has left it open to now see the friendships develop. Based on an anime, I know they'll have plenty of source material to take from, and I hope it gets renewed.

fantastic

I didn’t actually know anything about Yu Yu Hakusho before I watched this. That being said, my review is not based on comparison to the anime but just solely on how much I enjoyed watching this.

I thought the story was great. Humans versus demons… what’s not to love? I could feel that there was a lot left unsaid but I just took it at face value and will hope for more seasons.

I’m a new Kurama fan. When he turned into his fox form I totally lost my breath. Love his fight scene so much.

I thought all the actors did a great job and I appreciate the hard work they put into their roles. So physically demanding. I also really like the actor who played Enma but I could have done without the pacifier. I’m sure there’s a story behind that.

Storylines

What can I say anything Japanese be it crime..manga..
anime..Bls..romance I absolutely love. I have deep affection for the Japanese people..their hospitality...
how polite they are and their respect for their elders sadly lacking in a lot of country's so this 5 episode series was a joy to watch. I couldn't fault it. All the male cast were great..Takumi..Shuhei..Kanata and Jun delivered the goods ..great acting..a mix of comedy in parts..Action..great fight scenes and off the scale special effects which were mind boggling. Well-done to all who made this series possible I will be forever grateful. The only one no I hate the dubbing in English I much prefer the Japanese language and subtitles but that's just me..
