Four Stars

I know a lot of people are really frustrated with Kang Soon, but I kind of get her. She knows nothing about love, but a handsome, flashy, rich idol comes around and sweeps her off her feet, full of knowledge about women and "the world" and the way these things are done. As someone who's never been in love before and never been flirted with (since it seems Ma Dol kept anyone who was interested away from her), it's easy to fall for charms that at first seemed cheesy and ridiculous but later start to feel sexy and romantic. But at the same time, she won't leave her grandmother and is afraid of whether Yoo Baek is being sincere or not. On the island, relationships seem to last, but for someone like Yoo Baek, relationships seem fleeting, and he's quite fickle. It's hard to decide whether what she's feeling is really love, and even if it is, whether to go along with it and whether to believe in him.

Then Ma Dol confesses, and things become even more confusing and complicated. Suddenly, her best friend, protector, and favorite, most cherished person aside from her grandmother confesses to her, and the whole village is in a rush to push them together and have them get married. Even though she adores Ma Dol in a platonic, or even familial way, she doesn't feel romantic love for him. Or even if she did, she doesn't have time to sort her feelings out anyway because he drops a bomb on her by confessing to her, and the village is immediately ready to throw them into marriage. Even Ma Dol is saying, "let's just get married," but she hasn't even seen him in a romantic light as even a possibility until less than 24 hours prior. She doesn't want to hurt him, and she doesn't want to lose him, and she can't be sure Yoo Baek is sincere, and she doesn't want to disappoint the village and her grandmother, but at the same time, she doesn't love him. I honestly feel really bad for her, and I almost wish she could just go back to just living with her grandmother and be a hermit for the rest of her life. She was perfectly happy that way, and you don't need love to have a good and happy life, plus love seems to only be giving her stress and discomfort. Even so, I wish she would just tell everyone to give her some space and time to think rather than just let herself be dragged back and forth by everyone's whims. And I wish she'd be a little nicer to Yoo Baek, even if she's not sure she wants to date him. Even so, they've become friends by this point I think, but she's basically telling him not to care about her or her business at all and is even giving him the cold shoulder. I guess because she knows the more involved with him she gets, the more she'll fall for him, which she doesn't want to do. Ugh love triangles are the worst.
