The Bridal Mask (2012)

so far i've watch until episode 5 only and im still on the process of watching.
from the story value i gave the rating of 10, well it's the typical hero plot and it's not new were the protagonist started as an antagonist, i knew i've watch something like this before. but because im a fan of old things, like watching jang geum, dong yi and the likes so i gave this 10, and i am very curious on what is life of koreans during japanese occupation, since in my country we had been occupied by the japanese too until we are saved by the americans during those times, so i am very curious to know too how is it for the koreans.

for the actors who played the role, i am mainly focusing my attention to the lead roles like joo won and the girl mok dan, can't remember here real name, shunji's brother and shunji. joo won's acting in my opinion is superb, the way he acts as the bad guy during episode 1 made me hate him soo much that i actually had goosebumps on that particular scene, where he was on a horse telling orders from the midgets to face the other way and draw their swords cause the joseon people won't grieve the death of that prominent person. he can actually act people seriously. mok dan, is she a new actress? i don't know but i have this feeling that her acting is lacking somewhere, her facial expression for me is lacking. same goes to shunji, and he looks like that japanese mc. but for shunji's brother i like him i like how he acts the baddest, and his facial expression the way he lift his eye brow make me want to puch him that much, his stupid ego and all. and tsk tsk i forgot kang to's brother, how can i forget him, his an old actor right so no wonder he portray's the role very well, but since im not really a fan of his, im kind a like don't like him that much, he made kang to's life miserable, that's my opinion only.
im sorry i can't focus on the music yet, so i gave it 8.
for the rewatchable, im not a fan of repeating, so i don't want to repeat it again. it's the kind of story u woundn't want to repeat because it's full of sorrow.
over all i love it, so i gave it 10. ^^

it's 9 episodes so it's still far, my opinions might change in the future...

no tengo palabras ara describir lo que este drama me hizo sentir, sin duda el mejor que he visto hasta ahora, me atrapo de principio a fin y a pesar de ser un drama considerablemente largo en ningún momento me aburrió sino todo lo contrario, me iba gustando más y más. los actores aunque ella no se destaca mucho los actores hombres se llevan mis felicitaciones sobre todo joo won que hizo una increíble actuación, ademas el ost "goodbye day" interpretado por ulala sesion me dejo sin palabras.
sin duda un drama recomendadisimo para todos que siempre llevaras en el corazón.

Story: This drama had the potential of being one of those epic dramas like the now classic Jewel in the Palace. The story started around two brothers who were on opposite sides; Lee Kang-to turned his back on his countryman to be the rising star of the Japanese police force and his elder brother Lee Kang-san, the village idiot who, unbeknownst to everyone including Kang-to and his mother, was Gaksital (Bridal Mask). Gaksital was the hero in the village and the scourge of Japanese authorities as he fought for justice for his fellow Koreans. Close on his heels was Kang-to, bent on capturing Gaksital so he could cement his standing with the Japanese .

Then there's Shujin, a genial Japanese music teacher and Kang-to's best friend who turned to the dark side after witnessing his brother killed by Gaksital and realizing that Oh Mok Dan will never return his love.

I was fully engaged the first 6 episodes, but after Kang San's death, the drama went rapidly downhill. Oh Mok Dan became the central figure. Why??? It was almost comical if not totally irritating that Kang-to and Shujin were trying to outdo each other on who can capture Oh Mok Dan first because she happened to be Bridal Mask's catnip. The story was supposed to be Gaksital doing heroic things for his people not just Oh Mok Dan but for unexplained reasons, the writers decided to make Gaksital into this "romantic" hero. If this was for fanservice, they did a big disservice to the drama's story as a whole.

Acting/Cast: I'm a great Joo Won fan but I was a bit disappointed with his portrayal of Kang-to. His constant frowning expression did not do much for his character and I got the impression that Joo Won was having difficulty grasping the essence of Kang-to. On the other hand, Shin Hyun Joon did an excellent job of playing Lee Kang San. His transition from the village idiot to the hero Gaksital was truly amazing.

Park Ki Woong as Kimura Shunji had his good moments of acting but as a whole, he was a meh for me.

Jin Se Yeon as Oh Mok Dan was the biggest let down in this drama. I stopped at episode 15 because I could no longer stand her acting. Looking at her expression as she stared at her nemesis LaLa reminded me of a girl being reprimanded by her mother to go to her room because she's grounded. That's how bad she is. Most of the time she appeared to be shallow and ditzy. To top it all, her character did nothing but run around being caught and then tortured, then she escapes, gets caught again and then tortured. With the amount of torture she received, she should have been a cripple by the third time it happened.

Production, if you wanted Oh Mok Dan to be the central character of this drama, you should have chosen an actress who could do the job. Someone like a Caitriona Balfe of "Outlander" series. Here's the criteria the producer Ronald D. Moore said he looked for in an actress to portray Clair, "...the fundamental quality of the character was her intelligence. You have to have an actress that really projected this really smart quality because she lands in this time she's able to adapt very quickly and everything flows from her intelligence, her strength of character, her adaptability, her sexuality, her warmth. All of this because of this mind and sort of intelligence. So you got to have somebody who you could watch think on camera,,,,,,"

Overall, as I mentioned above, this drama had the potential if not for it turning into a complete dud. It's biggest flaw was the main actress Jin Se Yeon. A really good actress could have saved it.

Sou totalmente apaixonada por essa série. Provavelmente minha preferida entre tantas. Parece exagero, e nem quero que essa minha colocação crie expectativas fortes em quem for assistir. Procurem ser neutros, sério. A surpresa é sempre melhor do que a decepção e, pra mim, a decepção passou muito longe daqui.
Quem já assistiu City Hunter, a série vai um pouco nesse estilo. Contudo, Gaksital é bem mais envolvente, intensa, e encantadora, na minha opinião. Eu particularmente gosto muito de séries ambientadas na Coreia durante a colonização japonesa. Você pode contemplar a riqueza dos detalhes que compõem esse período histórico, aquela coisa vintage que a gente ama. Vestimentas, arte, circo, literatura, dança e outros aspectos culturais. Ainda temos o deslumbre de espadachins talentosos dando um show, mas também temos as armas de fogo em ação. Tem telefone, tem cabaré, tem circo, tem hotéis, e o mais empolgante de tudo: revolução.
Joseon está sob o domínio de um poder tirano que oprime seu povo. Os japoneses estão no poder e o povo coreano está subjugado ao imperador de outra nação. É tenso. E quando pensamos num governo ditador, logo nos vem em mente a existência de pessoas do outro lado, lutando contra toda a opressão. Pois é isso que temos em Gaksital, que em suma se refere à uma máscara de noivado utilizada pelas em certo período histórico.
As personagens são incríveis, especialmente as masculinas centrais, cujos atores dão um baile de interpretação. Vemos uma história de amizade que a princípio é genuína, mas há uma reviravolta de tirar o nosso fôlego. Esse é um dos pontos que mais me impressionaram neste drama.
Eu lembro de ver pessoas comentarem sobre o quanto este drama foi bom para eles, porém foi tão intenso que os mesmos não se imaginavam assistindo este drama uma segunda vez. E bom, isso é verdade até certa vírgula. Acho que após uns dois ou três anos fica mais fácil dar um replay, como já fiz.
É intenso mesmo, um dos mais intensos que já vi. Mas é esperado, afinal, quando se fala em revolução histórica, temos sempre uma série de conflitos e cenas que nos deixam com o coração na boca. Você se preocupa com os protagonistas e demais personagens como se eles fossem da sua família kkkkkk.
Como se não bastasse toda a situação complicada logo de cara, a gente também tem um romance lindo e emocionante se desenvolvendo no meio de toda a turbulência. E se eu falar mais sobre isso posso acabar dando spoiler, mas o que posso dizer é que o casal é lindíssimo, a gente torce por eles o tempo todo, embora muitas vezes a gente perca o fôlego de nervosismo pelas situações perigosas que o nosso casal não consegue evitar. E a gente faz o quê? Bebe água.
Este drama também ganha ponto ao retratar com um pouco mais de realismo como o povo coreano sofreu na época da colonização japonesa. Você não será poupado de algumas coisas tensas e, mesmo assim, eu acho que o drama só pôde passar uma amostra do que de fato acontecia.
Mas lá estão nossos heróis fictícios dando tudo de si para libertarem o povo de Joseon, e a gente fica vibrando com isso o drama todo. É sensacional o quanto essa série mexe com nossas emoções. Eu poderia ficar horas e horas falando de Gaksital, mas nada será comparável a ver por si mesmo. Se você se encantou com as cenas do passado de Chicago Typewiriter, ou se você se encantou com Mr. Sunshine, ou com qualquer outra trama que tenha se ambientado ou feito referências a tal período histórico, Gaksital é uma boa sugestão. E se você nunca viu nada disso, mas curte histórias intensas onde se luta por justiça ou vingança com alguma dose de romance, eu igualmente recomendo muito.
Mas repito o que eu disse no começo. Apesar da minha resenha, sejam neutros quando forem assistir. Eu sou claramente muito suspeita pra falar de Gaksital, não se influenciem demais kkkkkkk. Se joguem na curiosidade.

Меня привлек Joo Won в исторической драме, потому что имея не очень большой багаж дорам за спиной, этот актер неизменно выбирал хорошие роли для себя. Да еще этот период корейской истории я совсем не знаю, и поэтому было очень интересно посмотреть, ведь японская оккупация длилась десятилетиями и если представить такое, что даже страшно становится - поколение под игом.
Однако в начале все действо напоминало театральный водевиль про мстителя в маске - красиво, пафосно и Петрушка всегда побеждает. Это чувство усугублялось периодически бросающейся в глаза дешивизной постановки - массовка была очень ограничена, локации тоже. Театральность привносила и определенная жанровая "тупизна" плохих (особенно Lee Si Yong в роли графа ну совсем кривлялся) и крутизна хороших.
В переломный момент для Ли Кан То обилие рыданий и страданий так зашкалил, что стал напоминать какое то индийское мыло. Я уже хотела все это бросить, но после 10-ок серий как то все выравнялось, подбавили интриги, поддали драмы характеров и дали раскрыться актерскому таланту и Joo Won и Park Gi Ung, играющего Сюдзи Кимуру. Я его видела до этого только в айдольской комедии Фулхауз и мне он там тоже приглянулся, но здесь он создал сильнейший образ простого учителя, японского парнишку, которого сломала война, власть и семья. И ведь, что самое страшное, по другому и не могло закончится - все логично и правильно, но от этого не менее печально. Дружбу Ли Кан То и Сюдзи сломали не они, и даже не женщина, а жизнь и реальность того места и времени.
О женщинах как бы и нечего сказать. По началу казалось, что главная героиня для того и главная. Но во второй половине дорамы она как ушла на второй план так там и осталась.
Ее соперница, умница-кореянка-японка-шпионка да все в одном лице, беспорно очень красивая женщина и умная, но любовь... Хотя вела она себя вполне предсказуемо и я даже рада, что все для нее так закончилось, авось стоящему рядом все же повезет.
Второстепенный старший каст прекрасно дополнял картину, хотя о водевильность некоторых я уже сказала. Злодейность злодеев тоже как-то была доведена до абсурда сначала, но во 2 половине то ли вошли в роль, то ли установки стали почетче - стало верится больше и продажным политика и жестокости и цинизму японской власти, который сотнями тысяч отправляли девушек в бордели на фронт для "поднятия духа" доблестной армии, а парнишек на пушечное мясо. И все это под ура-патриотические лозунги.
На главных героев хотелось любоваться вечно, особенно когда мальчики были в форме.

Dropei, mas com todo respeito pela obra.

A partir daqui , tudo ficou muito obvio.
Eu entendo que é uma história de época que trata do caminho da libertação do povo coreano da opressão japonesa, mas se tornou muito óbvio.

O drama não é ruim.

A ideia central é muito boa e foi surpreendente até agora. Retrata uma época muito difícil do povo coreano e japonês, que criou uma ferida internacional na alma do povo das duas noções...e até hoje existe desconfiança entre as duas noções.

Mesmo que o Japão tenha construído uma estátua em homenagem às mulheres escravizadas escravizadas coreanas e tem havido aí uma documentação de perdão pós-guerra para aqueles que viveram isso tudo sempre vai existir um desconforto mas países que entram em guerra devastam com crueldade com seus grandes exércitos e infelizmente na guerra não existe boyzinhos e nem mãozinhas existem pessoas lutando por seus países e no final das contas toda a guerra deixa um grande Rastro de sangue e muitas coisas horrorosas que não conseguiram ter estômago para citar.
Comi muito falar da série pela minha mãe que assistiu todinha e gostou muito mesmo ela já sabendo mais ou menos o que iria acontecer aí ela me indicou eu assisti até o 9 e depois assistir os dois últimos episódios.

Se você gosta de drama de época e do elenco assista você vai gostar vão ser boas horas desfrutando de um conteúdo bem interessante, mas como eu raramente desiste de um drama esse aí entra para lista de exceções mas não é que o drama seja ruim. Talvez eu tenha assistido drama demais.
