So good! One of the best drama of 2023

This drama was so well done!
The plot was refreshing and the characters are fully fleshed out. Acting was excellent overall. The standouts are obviously Yang Zi and Tan Jianci. I have a new appreciation for Yang Zi as an actress. During the first half when she plays a man, she fully commits and delivers from her voice to body language. I loved that she didnt care about being beautiful while acting as a man. Tan Jianci is do good as Xiang Liu! The clothes, makeup, hair, acting all perfectly portrayed his character. The chemistry between Yang Zi and each male was very believable and felt different based on their relationships!

My only complaint is the acting of Deng Wei was so flat. Whenever he was onscreen, its like theres a void sucking the energy out of the room lol!

I can't wait for part 2! If you only watch one drama this year, make sure its this one!

Will I ever move on from this masterpiece? No, I won't EVER!!

Finally a story that got my heart racing to watch the next episode, ranting to my family members(bless them), pausing out of frustration due to some characters, and smiling foolishly to some scenes And that's how I know I have found a gem. Living and being entranced so wholly into a plot, a scene, a character and their life.

Words cannot express how good this drama is. Just watch it and see. The plot, the acting, the osts, everything was at peak perfection. Characters that had my full support (I was ready to die for Jing), others that had my sympathy (the nine headed demon) and some who I understood their choices but just couldn't get myself to love them.

Not to add the endless pieces of advice got. Living a life only you have control over. Is it worth it, betting your hope of happiness in someone else's hands? If you live life with no expectations, you won't get disappointed. But won't that steal the joy of those little moments in life that we experience due to hope etc.

AND Seriously if you are a sucker for enduring love, love that you only see once in a lifetime, the we'll live and die together type of love(I'm among those who live for such stories), this is a gem for you. Plus there is more for those who love a mix, political intrigue, high stakes on line, loyalty, weighing the gains etc.

Life is not just for Love...

I decided to tune in to this drama thanks to Yang Zi and Tan Jianci. But in the end, I found another gem on C-Drama land.

I love Yang Zi from Ashes of Love and The Destiny of White Snake. Her Xianxia drama never disappointed me, so I watched it. Another reason that I finally made up my mind to finish this drama even though season two has not been announced yet is because of Tan Jianci.

I know Tan Jianci because Winner is King, I watched this drama because I want to get to know him more.

This is the first time I watched his acting. I know her work as a singer, idol, and also at a variety show. Surprisingly I found another hidden gem actor.

Story,
With no expectations, I started watching it because of those two actors above. Then I realized this is my favorite kind of story. As a sad-torture-beautiful-story enjoyer, This drama made me suffer in a positive way.

My brain enjoyed any hidden meaning and details that they put in the story. For the production team, thank you for your hard work to produce such a masterpiece.

I love how the story made my heart crumble and cured and broken and happy and then broke down again. They successfully made me cry like a baby in one minute but then laughed out loud the next moment.

Acting,
Yang Zi is undoubtedly legendary. In AOL The character that she played was portrayed well in every drama. But in this drama, I feel that perfect is not enough to describe her effort to bring Xiao Yao and Wen Xiaoliu to life.

And Tan Jianci, OMG I'M IN SHOCK. How come I never knew that there was an actor who has detailed micro-expressions that can hypnotize so much audience? He is truly amazing as a nine-head demon cold general Xiang Liu and flirty-warm-sweet playboy Fangfeng Bei.
I can't really say anything about his acting skills. But I can possibly say that Tan Jianci is one of my top list favorite Chinese actors.
Besides that, I have a soft spot for a white-haired man.

The other that caught my attention is Cang Xuan's Zhang Wanyi. I feel like He is born to Cang Xuan's Character. When I looked at him I just wanted to bow and give my best greeting as a commoner. He really nailed it!

Deng Wei does a great job too. He shows us dedication as an actor. Even though I didn't really like Tushan Jing's Character, Deng Wei really knew how to portray this nine-tailed fox perfectly.
I knew him from TTEOTM and he is amazing there. And he doesn't disappoint me in this too.

Wang Hongyi and Dai Luwa did a great job too. But for the minor character for me is just okay.

Music,
Each character's theme song is really beautiful. All of them are really matched for the character and the story. I want to bow and give respect to the music department for this masterpiece. As YaoLiu team, I can't get enough of Favor Mortal Fireworks (Yang Zi & Tan Jianci), Long Lovesickness (Yisa Yu), and (The Waiting That Can't Be Waited For (Tan Jianci). They sit on my everyday playlist now. These three songs never failed to make me can't move on from Xiao Yao and Xiang Liu.

In the end, this is the most beautiful yet tragic story that sits on my top one favorite Drama. This is not just an ordinary god-demon or evil-good story.
There is something in it that made it touch our hearts when we decided to watch it. I can say watching it is just like diving into the sea. There are so many beautiful things that we can enjoy.

I definitely rewatched it till they announced season two of the drama.
And one thing, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF XIANG LIU AND FANGFENG BEI.
Thank you.

Best C-drama I've seen in a long ,long time

I've watched a LOT of this genre and rarely do you find a drama that does well at all the important stuff.

--The story progressed smoothly and introduced characters and kingdoms gradually so that it all made sense.
--The storyline kept me hooked and going back for episode after episode, never losing momentum as so often happens in C-dramas.
--The characters all had clear motivations and unique personalities and became more likeable as the story progressed.
--The romance factor was thoroughly enjoyable, with each love interest captivating in his own way.
--All the actors were perfect in their roles, and the FL did a good job creating chemistry with each ML, even when she was in male persona.
--And the ending--unlike so many Cdramas--was not rushed and disjointed and contrived; it arrived with perfect pacing, a logical progression, and provided a satisfactory end for what is only the first season. I usually don't watch a 1st season until there is actually a 2nd season underway, but other reviewers gave me hope and I agree with them that this was enough closure to be satisfied (but still excited for Season 2 which supposedly will come out in 2024).

I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with this drama.

A drama that once you start, you're in for an adventure of your life??

So it took me long enough to write this review as I should have done so since, but I was busy and forgot, I only remembered now so here it goes??

Firstly, I'm one of the ppl that have been looking forward to this drama as it is my favorite Chinese novel till date and Yang Zi is my all time favorite actress.
I loved the novel, because of the dynamics of it, it isn't a normal drama in which the FL falls for one guy alone, and love isn't the only focus, there is so much more and so many wonderful plots and it is so unique ??

To the drama now, I was so anxious when the 1st 4 episodes came out cause I thought that it might not live up to my expectations (not YZ's acting though), but I was so shocked from the the first episode and got hooked till the end.

The children's acting was SO GOOD!!!, scenery was beautiful and then I loved how they were able to give life to the side characters in Qing Shui village ??.

P.S haters said that YZ looked ugly as WXL??, like was he supposed to be pretty??

I loved the acting of the, main and supporting characters, they were all very good, I was looking forward to who play Ru Shou and I was impressed by the actor ??

The pacing was good, the tension btw Xiao Yao and Xiang Liu was ??, the puppy love btw Xiao Yao and Tu Shan Jing was also good??

In all this drama followed the novel and I am very happy for that

What I thought they should have done better????
The OST's weren't really the best, they were good, but not the best, I loved some of the BGM music too, that could have been improved on

The set where they were acting, sometimes looked real and sometimes fake, I didn't really have a problem with this though as it wasn't really noticable

These are the only things that I saw, but either way it still remains the best cdrama of 2023 for me??

Yang Zi's acting skills are very good.

Yang Zi's acting skills are very good. Yang Zi can perform the role of Xiao Yao so PERFECTLY!! all forms of emotions are conveyed well. Every small detail is really paid attention to and shown subtly so that the audience's emotions are carried away. Yang Zi is a good actress, has a bright future, and appreciates every role. Yang Zi is a professional actor who always uses his original voice. The colors and vocals are very diverse and comfortable to listen to. When she was Wen Xiao Liu, Yang Zi was a handsome, charismatic, humorous, determined and kind man. Yang Zi adjusted she vocals to a male voice but it was still clearly audible. When she became Xiao Yao's woman, she was a sweet, independent, intelligent, calm, elegant and smart girl. Her vocals changed to become softer like a noble woman. this is so awesome! Yang Zi is a good and professional actor!

lost you forever

Lost You Forever is really the best drama, from the beginning of the episode to the end it feels really sad, especially in episode 15, it really makes me sad when I see Ibu An Nian, Xiang Liu's Pengerbonan really makes me sad to see, Cangxuan as War Brother is also very good, like The role of brother in the real world, War Deng Wei as Tushang Jing is also really good for the sake of women, he is willing to die as long as they can be together, only one doesn't like it when it comes to his grandmother and Fanfen Yiyin, all the players are really the best

I have a deep admiration for YangZi; her performances in every drama are truly commendable. The storyline captivated my attention from the start. The initial scenes resonated with me, and YangZi's portrayal of the character added an extra layer of depth. What stood out to me was not just her acting but the serious personality she brought to the role, something I'm not accustomed to seeing from her.

It was refreshing to witness her as a soldier, portraying a strong and determined female lead. However, there was a subtle sense of something missing that lingered with me. Expressing my thoughts took some time; it wasn't easy putting my feelings into words. Having completed the series on January 1, 2024, I found myself overcome with sadness, particularly about the character of Deng Wei. The emotional impact caught me off guard, prompting me to reflect on the drama's title.

It seems there might be a second part in the works, and if it comes to fruition, I intend to watch it back-to-back. Perhaps with a second viewing, I'll find better words to articulate my experience. Despite the complex emotions it stirred within me, I refrain from giving the drama a negative review. The fact that it evoked such profound feelings from me is a testament to its impact, deserving the rating I have assigned.

A hit fantasy drama series of 2023!

WOW, I'm so glad I gave this drama a chance. I typically avoid fantasy/xianxia genres because they follow a similar storyline, and are usually a miss imo. However, the plot and characters were very refreshing. I know that adaptations never follow the original stories 100%, but I'm glad that this drama follows closely to the novel (so far from what I've seen), from the main plot to the essence of the characters.

The actors truly brought the characters to life - Yang Zi, Zhang Wan Yi, Deng Wei, Tan Jian Ci - they did superb! Besides YZ, the actors were all new to me and I was very impressed with their ability to convey emotions and micro expressions. The chemistry is great and they are the reason behind the drama's success. The cinematography and special effects were superb - definitely a high budget series. The OST soundtrack also complements the different scenes and characters' POV.

I am hoping that season 2 delivers well. I've heard rumours about scenes/episodes being cut due to regulations, and am praying that is not the case as this would really ruin the drama's success. Looking forward to season 2 and the rest of the story. Definitely going to finish reading the novel - highly recommend!

Story, acting cast, ost

The story is grounded, all relationships are believable and beautiful in their own ways, each character was well-developed and acted out (cast is a.ma.zing.). No stupid decision-making, no stupid xianxia tropes, a credible story that just draws you in.
One of the unique dramas where there's 1 female lead with 4 male leads, but you root for every one of them in their own ways.
OST is lovely, the instrumentals are poignant and grand, each major scene held strong on its own with each lead.
Definitely worth rewatching, especially when there's season 2 coming next time.

Bestest of the best drama of all time!

Woah!! I am so in love with this drama where I have endearing feelings for all the cast members.
Moreover, I also feel these soft-subtle-healing vibes this drama gives me where I don't need to skip any moments or watch it in 2x speed like few other dramas which are rather a little bit draggy or a bit hasty without any character development.
I love how it soothes my soul and makes me happy! Every character has their own sufferings, past and personality.
In addition to it, all of them are just so adorable.
Definitely this drama will be ranked on the topmost place in my Xuanhuan side of drama heart.
YangZi is just so good at portraying different layers of her past experiences. So commendable! Her acting is superior. ❤️
XL and TJ are just so cute with those hearty eyes for the FL. Something I definitely didn't expect so soon for our Nine-headed Demon Serpent the Great Xiang Liu! ?
Up until now CX just gives me sibling-like chemistry with FL.
I wanted 4thML Chi Shui Feng Long to gear up a little bit to get into XY's heart as the only thing do is to be completely whipped for XY and nothing else. ?
I definitely recommend you this title. <3

Yang Zi/ Xiao Yao:
She's definitely our common FL who was given a lot of love by her family and the consistency of her character is portrayed really well. Generally, FLs from different drama make few decisions which are questionable but our XY is very different from theirs. I love her character in this drama the most. Everyone knows about her tragic past and how she tried her best to live her life despite of various troubles. Her being totally calm and having pure hearted demeanor is just so rare.
She is so committed to her loved ones that she tries her best to assist them mostly XL by giving her own blood all the time to cure him and protecting CX everytime. She is so admirable.?
On weibo, it shows that XY is a scorpion and since I am her fellow water sign buddy, I kind of understand her insecurities rooted from her past loses and traumas.
She needs security in her relationships where she should be sure that the other person will not abandon her at any cost and she can believe that person with her fragile heart. She is in such situation where she can not suffer anymore heart breaks.
That's why she took her time accepting her own identity of being a princess before her all security issues gets taken care of and believing that her father didn't really wanted to abandon her because of some rumours.
I myself and XY wants to be this kind of healing relationship that its better to torture physically than being abandoned from time to time by those for whom she had at least an ounce amount of faith and those who were being nice with her.
That's why she has basically closed her heart from upcoming vulnerable emotions and feelings strangers bring to her.

Zhang Wan Yi/ Cang Xuan:
Even though I'm not a big fan of CX character's life decision but I kinda understand why he took those decisions in his life as he needed to live while constantly fearing of his 5th and 7th uncle plotting all the way down the hill!
He had bunch full of people trying to assassinate him including people from Chenrong army because of his identity.
He said to XY in yesterday's ep that he no longer can be willfull after his mother's death. I'm sobbing for him 'cause every character in this drama has depth and weight in their heart can be felt so easily namely in XY, XL and CX's characters especially.
CX literally poisoning and losing his control over himself just to move out of Xiyan city is just so cruel to himself! He claiming in front of XY that he needs to remember today's suffering in order to remember it in the long course of time to stay strong for his goal is so commendable.
Hats off to ZWY's acting even his pupils work so hard to portray the feel of mad man who was addicted to those poisonous drugs which he needed to take just to make people around him think that he is depressed and can't do anything so that he won't be a danger to his uncles for the throne!
He tried to puch Chenrong XinYue off his body but at end wasn't able to resist her since she was the sister of his biggest benefactor.... He can't even have someone he loves dearly! So tragic all the way.

I haven't read the novel so I don't know what tragic things he will do to XY that she eventually wanted to kill CX after watching yesterday's ep where she tried her best to control CX when he lost himself to the drug! Poor them... CX please at any cost don't betray and break heart of XY....
