I loved it BUT

(Additional Spoiler review at the end but you can read this part without worries!)

I know my rating seems rather "bad" compared to the other reviews but I have to explain...

First, the story was good. It's a trope most us knows about but I think they executed it perfect. Now what bothered me? Well everything started to really ANNOY me with episode 9&10. Suddenly, there was a gigantic shift with another Dramatic change of a story line to spice things up which I genuinely did not understand???

I will talk about this part later.

The casting. I liked the casting but what I did not like was how monotone our main Tian was. Most of the time when he talks it felt really emotionless. I LOVE Tian though. His character growth was even more interesting than the romance part.

Music. I honestly don't understand how people could give this 10 stars. It's not bad or something but not 10 stars.

I think like modt of these cases people tend to rate everything 10 stars after watching the last episode.

Btw, I find the ending great, because who doesn't like happy endings? It was just executed very poorly imo. But as you can see many people loved it so maybe thats just me.

If you want to watch a Drama about a boy trying to define what his purpose is in life and additionally a "teacher" x Bodyguard Trope - then this is for you.

Spoiler part:

I didn't understand the logic of Phupha in the end. He told Tian to go away because he needs to live his life, to find himself- but at the same damn time Tian says his place is there wtf??? Phupha low-key sounded like Tian's mother and I really hated his mother I swear to god.

For a character who's Goal was to find himself, to be free, they ended this Drama really weird with him not even having to decide about his life.

Also, the last scene, I still don't get what he's doing there. Did he just leave USA without telling his parents - and now thats okay or what???

Oh, and his Mother saying studying education in the USA is better- this woman has no idea why does she keep deciding for him and the Father doesn't care.

Sorry, I love this Drama but seeing people only raring overall 10 stars when there were obviously some conflicts confused the hell out of me.

A tale of thousand stars is a story of self discovery and second chances. This drama is a breath of fresh air in this genre. The chemistry between the leads is heartwarming and the acting is seamless. The acting is mellow and the screen time of side characters is convincingly used to further the story of the leads. Earth as the chief who is entrusted with the protection of a village for whom love is new and Mix who is young and is willing to take the road less travelled to change his perspective of life, have portrayed their characters brilliantly.

There are certain small scenes that this show just gets right without over dramatising it. When tian realises his feelings for the chief and confesses it to his close friend over a casual conversation, his nonchalant reaction to tian’s confession also shows that the programme tries to normalise love towards the same sex as a preference rather than a gender specific emotion.

The sceneries used for this drama are vivid and the scenes shot under the flickering light of a candle are beautiful. Finally found a show that ticks all the correct boxes.

*No Chemistry (Or Kissing) Between The Main Characters!*

If you want a smart BL drama with true connection, an interesting storyline and decent acting, this is not it.

I wasn't planning on writing a review, but seeing as this tv show is so popular, I must ward off all of you who look for quality content because if you watch A Tale Of A Thousand Stars, you'll get super disappointed.

This is what's wrong with it:

1. The storyline had a good premise, but bad execution. The whole story was written badly, nonsensically, with minimal effort.
2. The script was awkward, empty, shallow, and cheap. No emotional depth, no feeling, no honesty or truth. It read like fanfic written by a 15-year-old.
3. There is no chemistry between the two MCs. This is my biggest problem. The character named The Chief was A. a bad actor, and B. seemed like he wanted to get as far away from Tian as possible. There were no intimate moments, no touches that felt honest, no yearning that rang genuinely, and NOTHING between the two MCs that I could appreciate.
(4. This is subjective, but The Chief was truly dislikeable and he reminded me of my ex.)

In any case, I am baffled at the support this tv show is getting. I would not categorize it as a BL at all. And if it's not a BL, then what is it? A waste of time!

I Hate Tian with My Whole Heart<3

I liked that the romance was restrained. Not overly cringy. The extremely natural and inherent chemisty between the leads really saved the show.

I've witnessed many annoying BL boys but Tian takes the first place in my heart. I understand that the mc needs character development and what not but he's such a dumbass. The whole villagers NEEDING Tian's help was exhausting. They dumbed down a whole community to make Tian the hero. Like they don't a rich brat with a weak ass heart to save them from those people trying to exploit them. Just direspectful.

Overall perfect

First, I want to thank all the crew and actors who took part in the production of this series, you are all really great. I really like the way they shoot and the atmosphere they present in this series.

Second, I'm sorry for Torfun's passing, but also grateful because she has given Tian a new life.

Third, I was really impressed with the acting skills that Earth and Mix had when playing the characters Phupha and Tian. The two of them are very compatible, a teacher and a chief.

Lastly, I really like how P'Aof chose the village as their filming location, it's really a very beautiful and peaceful place, I really want to go there someday. Then, I like their official soundtrack with a flute as a heartwarmer when listening to it.

I like it all, love the whole thing. They are all perfect, I never get bored of watching this series over and over again.

beautiful, minus a few things, a few episodes perhaps

the fact that i loved phupha absolutely incredibly so much and then he didn't apologize to tian.. it really hurt. and the fact that i still love him way too much that i can't get over the disappointment of that one part of the plot.... it felt so unlike how phupha would handle such a situation... that i think it's the writer's mistake, as if the writer didn't understand their own character. or that it was such an unnecessary trouble in the story that i find very difficult to make sense of. i was in such a bad mood after the diary confronting scene that i didn't enjoy anything since then so i stopped watching after episode 9 and took a break. (what was all that misunderstandings, followed by even more misunderstandings as if they didn't know each other the least bit. both of them seemed so out of character & out of chemistry all of a sudden. also, what if it really was tian who, accidentally, hit torfun? just cause it wasn't tian behind the wheels changed so much for him?? why, how? i couldn't quite relate to this sentiment :c)

the ending was really beautiful tho. made me feel love for it again. so.. i don't know, maybe i should rewatch it from the start to accept it. :(
beautiful drama btw.
earth's acting was beyond expectation, so very good portrayal of his character. to the point that i loved every time he appeared on screen. i'd like to watch him again in some other work though i think it'll depend more on the character whether i'll like him there or not.
also, incredible how he could show affection so beautifully, just by looking at a person.
the storyline is nice and fresh for the most part.
khama & longtae are the mvps. <3
overall, refreshing, but also, unexpectedly overdramatic at times.
(might change my rating after i get over the disappointments)

Forever My Favorite

I want to start off by saying I've watched this show some time ago, just as I read the novel around the same time.

This series is SO MUCH MORE than a bl. It has a solid plot and awesome acting.
It teaches the importance of life and how you can live to be a better person, as it's never too late to become the better version of yourself.

I find Tian's character to be one of the best BL characters ever written, and I was able to prove my point not only thanks to Mix's acting ( who perfectly captured Tian's existence and brought it to life), but also thanks to the novel — which was amazingly adapted by GMMTV and P'Aof.
The show can be understood as a lone piece, managing to pass down such a strong message through the portrayal of love.

Clearly, this isn't your series if all you're looking for is hot actors playing gay for the camera.
Though, the romantic scenes are still present and so heartwarming.
Earth and Mix are a fantastic match, and it shows. Their bond is so sweet, they're comfortable around each other and truly care for one another.

Nonetheless this show is truly amazing and perfect in every way.
Many people would disagree, but I find this to be EarthMix's best project.

For months, I've kept on watching other shows. Not only thai bls, but in general.
Yet, this always held a special place in my heart, to the point I'd say I'm part of its own fandom.

A tale of a thousand stars is a true gem that everyone should watch at lest once in their life 💗

I won't say it was worth it

Over all i liked the story line! was something new but just like most of other gmmtv shows there was a need for improvement. in some scenes over all the series was good but at some scenes it went dull like there where major ups and downs in the acting and the storyline. it was not consistent with the acting and story. earth and mix are great actors they just need a better script to showcase their talent because this series didn't attract my attention enough to watch other earthmix series..
But it depends on person to person you might like it..

Beautiful story

I may be 3 years late in watching this series. Have been binge-watching it in two days. Love it. Love the story, love the acting, love the music. I have both main leads in Midnight Chicken before watching this. Love how the lead characters have different personalities in each series.

I liked the surprises we all got at the end. If Tian was hiding a secret which he revealed towards the end, little did we know that Chief Phupha was also hiding a secret all along. Among the supporting actors, I liked Dr. Nam a lot. I like the Khama, the village head, and the school children. Interesting to know that the villagers are speaking in a dialects, as I noticed there were subtitles in Thai (I also read that Mix is actually fluent in this dialect, but since the role he played as Teacher Tian from Bangkok, he never used this dialect in the series)

Overall I loved the story, although towards the end (episodes 8-9) some scenes seemed to be a bit slow, which could be shortened, and sometimes become a not too melodramatic.

Something not too important, but I couldn't help notice is that Tian came to the village bringing a medium-sized backpack. How come he has so many different outfits throught the series. We rarely see him wear the same clothes in different episodes :-)

An almost fairy tale BL story in a remote village in Thailand

This BL story felt almost like a fairy tale to me and is centred around the development of the relationship between two guys with very different backgrounds as they meet in a remote village all up in the North of Thailand. One being the rich city boy while the other is the country strong guy, it can sound a bit unoriginal...But the context in which they meet as well as the events leading to their encounter, bring a lot of savours to the plot.

The romance between the two main characters is completely platonic but it is still bringing all the feelings and is truly convincing. I found the chemistry between the two actors pretty great and they managed to convey a lot of emotions through just staring at each other or slight hand touches. The development of their relationship was really good with just the last 2 episodes containing too much of (one-sided) noble idiocy from one specific character for my liking.

I think what I liked the most from this drama is the character of Tian, played by "Mix Sahaphap Wongratch". I truly enjoyed his performance and for me he carried the show acting-wise as well as narration-wise. I'm not sure if it is entirely due to the actor' skills or if it is more linked to the writing, but I will for sure try watching another drama with him.

All along the course of the story, I was rooting so much for the happiness of Tian: I was able to relate to him and I empathised so much with his circumstances and all the burden he was trying to carry. He was the key element in my enjoyment of the show and I wanted him to be appreciated and loved for himself and not because of connections to others characters. Fortunately, the script really was satisfying in those aspects. The scenario maybe missed a bit the mark regarding some of the side characters which could have benefited for more in-depth storylines but overall it is a minor flaw to my eyes.

The production was clearly kind of low budget. Some action scenes and props felt very cheap to me but it did not prevent me to enjoy the series overall. I quite appreciated the soundtrack overall, it was a bit repetitive at time but I found the instrumental with the Klhui (= type of Thai flute) poetic and charming.

I would recommend this to people looking for a BL story with a lot of turmoil and feelings combined with remote village storylines and rural atmosphere. If you have enjoyed "Crash Landing On You" or even "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" where people from 2 very different worlds meet and fall in love with each other, as well as learn a lot from their interactions with villagers, this might be just right in your alley !

Captivating

Tbh I didn’t expect to like this series as much as I do. The storyline is great and always has be at the edge of my seat like “when is the secret gonna be released”. The actors Earth and Mix play their characters amazingly and are definitely able to get their characters emotions across. Although I wish some parts of the story weren’t so redundant it still turned out to be great. Earthmix is a great pairing and they just complement each other’s acting. I hope to see more of those two in the future!
