Visually outstanding, great acting, excellent ost

I LOVE this movie.
The story itself is well developed, the script is really good, the characters are interesting and the actors and actresses play their roles amazingly.

The best:
* The visuals of the movie are amazing. Some chinese movies tend to have less budget and is noticeable the good special effects on this one
* The music, perfect, for every moment there was a nice music on the background that matched the situation perfecly
* The story is not too complex but also not too simple. It has a nice plot development. Also, all the characters have their moments to shine
* Deng Luo and Mark Chao have excellent chemistry, the brotherhood on this one is really nice

The worst:
I don't really have any negative to say about the movie jajaja, I really loved it!

WHAT AN UNFORGETTABLE STORY!

I just watched it on Netflix. And my heart is breaking. Shattering like a fragile egg into fine particles. Damn...it's so EXCELLENT! So beautiful! The lovestory, left me in tears.

The love He ShouYe has for the Princess is out of this world. Loyal to the end. Willing and ready to stay with her forever! I love him. What a brilliant actor!

Deng Lun, Mark Chao, Olivia Wang (the Princess) all played their roles beautifully, but He ShouYe, the Imperial Priest, (Wang Duo) is a LEGEND.

The CGI, costumes, story, special effects and acting is 99.9% perfect.

I will definitely rewatch He ShouYe (Wang Duo) and the Princess's scenes, whenever I want my heart to break again.

More so, Wang Duo shirtless, is a dream come true. Deng Lun shirtless, is hot too. But damn, Wang Duo's eyes and passion stole my soul.

Also, this movie is what I'call, the stuff of LEGENDS. I won't be forgetting it in a LONG TIME. And I'm most certain to recommend it to a lot of people - my family, my friends, classmates, colleagues at work, name it! It's so amaaaaaaaaaaaazing!

My favourite actors, in order of how I loved them in their roles:

1) He ShouYe / Imperial Priest (Wang Duo)
2) The Princess (Olivia Wang)
3) Boya (Deng Lun)
4) Qing Ming (Mark Chao)

What's yours?

Oh my, this movie was really awesome. The visuals were phenomenal! The graphics and design were awesome. The fantasy was out of this world! The costumes were beautiful! Allen Deng was perfect in everything! He did great, looks great, what can I say? Great acting was done by every actor and actress. I wished it was a little longer. I didn't want it to end. This movie is deserving of an Award. If you want to see a great fantasy this is it. I love the storyline, it had me focused but it was over too quickly.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH A MOVIE!

I really don't know where to start with my review...wow!!!!! I'll try to make it short...

CGI , cinematography and fight scenes were flawless! 10/10

Story- I love the relationship development between the main leads, I'm surprised that the writer/director was able to fit in the "love/friendship" arc in 2 hrs time. The villains love arc was poignant and yet beautiful, I think we really can't call them villains but only people who wanted to spend their life with the people they love. You'll understand them and as much as you hate the process, in the end it'll break your heart as well. I actually was teary eyed after I saw the backstory.

For the ML's story arc, was beautifully executed. I really can't call it slow burn since it's just a 2 hrs movie, but it feels that way. Their fight scene were more of an "introduction", a process where they start to built their strong "friendship" (ahem love!). It is more of a teasing and testing their friendship. I love how they trust each other so much so that they are willing to sacrifice each other in the process. First movie that I fell in love with.

Acting/cast- I am a HUGE fan of both ML's, I've never doubted their acting prowess. They perfectly fit the role. Kuddos to the side characters/supporting casts as well, big or small part, as long as you did your best, you'll definitely shine. The movie as a whole was perfect not only because of the ML's but all characters who shone brightly in their own way.

Music- Okay, I watched the movie first and FELL head over heels with the ending song -Infatuation Tomb 痴情冢.
After watching I googled the song since I wanted to know who sing that song.... and yeah...
Traitorrrrr (it's me btw)!!!!!! OMGeeeee what abomination is this???? How can I not recognised Deng Lun's voice???
I think it's a crime to look gorgeous, can act and sing beautifully at the same time. I cannot with this guy!!! That said, I fell in love with Phoenix again.. *sigh* I'll be single forever!

Rewatched value- Need I say more? lol

Overall: Don't miss this movie just beacuse of some issues/scandal which happen 10+ years ago or you'll be missing something beautiful.

At first, I didn't have any expectations for this movie, but it turned out to be a very good movie. The story is complex, but it can be told slowly but in detail. The cinematography is wow, excellent. The pictures are gorgeous, the CGI is amazing. Even the clothes they wear are so pretty, I fell in love.

The acting of the actors are undoubtedly. Each character is played very nicely and I was immersed in the story. I really like the bromance between Qing Ming and Boya, they are my favorites!

This movie has entered the list of my all time favorite movies.

A Satisfying, High Quality Production with ABSOLUTELY NO Stress level

It's been a while since I wrote a review. When I saw this in MDL, I just dived into it, and oh boy, was it perfection!!! I have never seen such SSS quality CGI. The spells were mesmerizing. The concept of demons and guardians and their magics were very interesting. I was amazed when Boya transformed into the vermillion. I thought it would be irreversible so I want to know more about that. I was surprised when he came back to his original body. Anyway, I loved the show. I may be exaggerating, but that's exactly what I'm feeling right now. How I wished this could be made into a series, with both of our leads in place. I sure am a fan of Denglun, Mark, not so much. But these two had great dynamics and if they worked for a little longer, I think they will make a great duo.

Anyway, the production was truly high-end and cinematography and camera angels were exceptional. This movie captured all my aesthetic desire in a film so I am immensely satisfied. Also, the story was light. There were really no bad villains here. They're sympathetic villains that everyone can or may relate to.

Verdict, LOVED IT! I wish for more!

DON'T MISS THIS IF U R A BL/BROMANCE & WUXIA FAN

VISUALS, CINEMATOGRAPHY, CAST, PLOT, ACTIONS... everything was on point. Specially the BL VIBES. Most people are saying it's bromance but it's definitely screaming out loud that it's a censored BL. It's gives off the soul-mates vibe similar to the ones we got in Word of Honor, Killer & Healer, etc. I personally never felt like it was a brotherly bond. It was more of an enemies to lovers trope. And damn! The graphics are just soooo beautiful! The Chinese city shown is one of the best and most beautiful city I've seen to date. The plot was interesting. The villian was hot! And the MLs are top notch actors. Overall, it's a must watch. Don't miss it.

Highly recommended!

Being a huge fan of Mark (Eternal Love) and Allen (Ashes of Love) I was highly anticipating this film with them working together. Of course I watched this as soon as it came out on Netflix and I'm so happy it did not disappoint. I had confidence in the story because it is base on a Japanese novel Onmyōji and I was right. It flows well and has depth. Casting and acting are absolutely superb, not only in the main two leads but the other 3 support actor/actresses are excellent as well. I love the chemistry between Mark and Allen and both actors exude their own charisma on screen. You can also tell and appreciate how much work was put into costumes, sets, designs, and production. There are also intricate fight scenes I love which I had to slow motion and rewatch multiple times to fully appreciate. One negative is some CGI fight scenes, can cause a disconnect with audience and could be better executed. Overall it is a movie I very much enjoy and look forward to part 2.

Rolled a "Snake Eyes," & I'm not all that mad about it...

Full disclosure: I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with Chinese [Fantasy] movies & dramas. I've enjoyed them (the visuals are to my vision what "umami" is to taste), but it's always been in spite of something, such as distracting voice overs, incomprehensible (to me) spiritual references, blatant sexism, etc. Also, I admit that I'm a basic, [Western] b*tch who loves a happy ending, & I can't think of more than 1 or 2 C-dramas I've seen that have scratched that itch. I do believe our definitions of what one is differ considerably.

This movie, while not absolutely perfect (I still have an itch I can't seem to scratch), has come more close than any other show of Chinese origin I've ever watched. I really, really loved it! The story was compelling & easy to follow, the audio was well done, the cast was all *mwuah!* ...chef's kiss! I cared about the characters rather quickly so the development was there, & the visuals! Ahhhhh! Amazing! I honestly didn't want it to end. Where is a 75 episode-long saga when you want one, eh???

If somebody asks me for a Chinese-based recommendation, I finally have an answer that doesn't come with disclaimers, & I'm pretty happy about it!

I was really looking forward to this movie, and sometimes that is a bad thing. The fact that after finishing I liked the movie and am planning to watch again, is the real reason for my rating.

The story is about a heroic priest Qing Ming who is one of the 4 called to protect the earth from the demon snake. He respects and comes to be friends with Bo Ya as they try to prevent the demon scale from being freed. The two main leads were well cast and their acting was great. Although I have to say Wang Duo as He ShouYe and Olvia Wang as the the Princess stole the movie. They were fantastic and without giving spoilers they were the two I felt the most connected to. I believe that is because their characters were more fleshed out vs the 2 main leads. It would have helped to have a little background on the 2 leads, they mention things that happened to them in the past but it's like an afterthought to fill in the blanks. Adding more background would have made the movie longer so that may have been a decision.

As for the movie, the visuals and special effects were outstanding. They were definitely a star of the movie.

I heard that the filmed the second movie at the same time, so hopefully that will be outs soon and maybe allow more background on the 2 main characters. There are other versions of the story that have been made. I wonder of anyone has those and can compare? I know there is a versions coming out with Chen Kun soon. Mark Chao vs Chen Kun, that will be a tough decision.

A movie that lives up to the expectations of the audience.

Yin-Yang Master : Dream of Eternity (Onmyoji Novel Movie Adaptation) : A Review

Before we start off with the review I'll give you a little bit of a background with where the movie came from. If you are familiar of the mobile game Onmyoji Arena, that game is based on a best selling novel in Japan and had been adapted to tv series, theatric acts and movies; including this particular movie. Last year December this movie was released in the Chinese film market and was just recently acquired by Netflix last week. This movie had been in the works for 4 years prior to its release. The movie had the blessing of the novel author and he was also the consultant of the movie production. The crew is as all-star as its cast with the household names of South Korea's Award Winning CGI Team best known for their work in the movie "Okja", Japan's Renowned Music Producer best known for his work on "Ghost in the Shell", and China's Hollywood Renowned Fight Choreographer known for his work on "The Last Airbender" Movie. All these credentials has raised the standards for the movie's expectations.

Now, let's move on to the review.

There were a bit of plot holes in the movie but most of them just go by unnoticed unless you're really keen on details. The characters were well portrayed by the actors. The wardrobe and the set design were outstanding, the way you can notice the intricate designs of each robes which were very similar to what the visualized character designs. The set design was visualized as similar as the Sui Tang Dynasty, which is a really tricky process but they nailed it. The fight choreography was very elegant as to emphasize each character's beliefs and training structures. For the cinematography, I really have to give it to the whole team because, they had to choreograph and shoot on a blue screen room for the whole serpent fight scene and the way they nailed the most complicated shots for that scene it was the most satisfying thing I could ever ask for in a movie. But, as for every movie there are things I am a bit disappointed of and here's what : the climax was well built but the way they concluded it didn't really surprise me at all because I kind of expected that outcome. Regardless of what I expected the movie was produced so well and it deserves a kudos.

Straightforward story with fantastic acting, cinematography, and CGI

Quick disclaimer: I have never read the original novel or known anything about this prior to the movie.

For a movie like this, you don't necessarily watch it for a surprise twist (although there were a couple that I didn't see coming). Probably because this movie is based on an old and famous novel, these are tons of stories that have this kind of storyline nowadays, so it was fairly easy to predict what was going to happen. The scenes in general can be on-the-nose about their messages.

BUT! I was totally okay with that because I was still able to enjoy the movie. All the actors were fantastic. The sets were incredible. The CGI was really incredible (and I was told that some stuff wasn't even CGI, but done by the makeup department). So, you can tell how grand this movie was and how much money, labor, and effort was spent on it.

I want to especially stressed the acting. If the actors were not world-class level, this movie would not have been so emotionally moving. Even though the messages of this story were pretty simple, it was taken to another level thanks to especially the four main actors--Mark, Allen, Olivia, and Wang Duo. They were perfect.
