Lengthy but not boring

I just waiting for love story to start because male lead actor is so amazing to express all type of emotions . So patiently I waited for it and I had watched 30 episodes but still love story not started so I decided to drop it but I watched one more episode then I realised actually drama was not boring and continued to watched it but now I was waiting to know that what would happened at the last, did love story will start or not ,if not then I would not happy with story . Yes Love story started but very few romantic scene and not happy with the end but ending scene arose so many questions. So, Is there second season?
If it real life based story so story end with assumption. Male lead actors is the best .

Full of intrigue and court politics

This drama is full of intrigue and court politics. While watching it, I had to adjust my expectations a bit. Firstly, it is a slow-paced story, with very little romance, and it has a narrow focus on court politics. As a result, characters spend most of their time dialoguing, developing all kinds of complicated schemes, and fighting to seize or shift power. The story is solid, but there are a few inconsistencies along the way that defy logic and make the viewing experience frustrating at times. This type of drama cannot be watched mindlessly, as you have to pay attention to every detail, which is a plus, in my view.

Regarding the actors, Cheng Yi's acting is subtle but still very good and nuanced, although his character is quite static and emotionally flat. Xuan Lu's multifaceted performance as Yanzhi and Mickey He's quirky interpretation of the villainous, power-hungry eunuch (Qiu Ziliang) were both impressive. Zhang Yuxi has a nice presence overall and is quite expressive, but her character is a bit difficult to like, reinforcing a long-standing tradition in Chinese dramas to portray the female lead as unintelligent and naive.

While I generally prefer the Xianxia genre, I do enjoy a good, intriguing political drama from time to time, especially one that doesn't simplify the plot for the viewers. Overall, I would recommend this drama to anyone who enjoys a complex, thought-provoking storyline.

Controversial opinions..

I have some controversial views for this cdrama. First, i love the ML , is a good actor, knew him from love and redemption. I dont find him sexy but i cannot deny he can take your breath away with his mysterious aura.... the FL ..well.. i love and hate her at the same time, sometimes she plays clever, she surprises everybody because she seems to know it all... but at times she is like an adult with childish traits... far too naive for my taste. And her childish voice at times could have been avoided to add on credibility for the type of role she is covering, an imperial guard, the sword bearer. This cdrama is about how to take a slow... very slow... revenge. I am at ep 43... 1 to go...and it seems the bad guys cannot be punished , it gets to my nerves to see how the evil eunuch seems to have more power than the emperor, i would slap his face hard! How dare you!! Please silence this super human evildoers!

This is a good fictional historical drama that, according to some viewers, was based on actual events and characters of the late Tang Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Wuzong. The actors did a great job bringing their characters to life and, although the drama is about 10-13 episodes too long and there are plenty of unnecessary events, the drama is quite entertaining. The drama progresses too slowly, the leading actress is too impulsive and unreasonable trying to protect people that were obviously hurting her and the emperor which made her character quite frustrating. The Emperor (Cheng Yi) and Mike He (as eunuch Qiu Zi Liang) were a force to be reckon with portraying their characters. SPOILER ALERT: The drama would have been much better if they would have ended it after the Emperor wins over the bad guys but, at the end, the Emperor dies. (And who was the person that the leading lady was looking at so lovingly at the end?).

STAND BY IT… YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!

If you liked The Long Ballad or The Sword and the Brocade, and the costumed piece shows, then you’ll like this one too. TBH, I’m hesitant when there are like 25+ episodes in a C-Drama because I feel sometimes it gets dragged out. But this show had a story that peaked my interest and I couldn’t wait to see the new episode the next day. Member WandeR had a lengthy review that hit a lot of good points that I agree on. The only actor I recognized in this was Han Dong who played Prince Guang, but now I am definitely a new fan of both M F leads, Cheng Yi and Zhang Yu Xi. The entire cast did a great job but I’m a sucker for romance so I favored the Emperor and his Sword Bearer more, ha! The political plots may sometimes feel the same in these shows but this one had a pretty good storyline I had not yet watched before. When I catch myself replaying a scene or going back to watch an episode, I know I’ve enjoyed it. Not to mention, when I start to sing or whistle the soundtracks when I’m not watching the show, it pretty much justifies my rating of 10. Hope you too can enjoy it… Happy viewing!

All the actresses and actors in this drama can act their roles very well. Yuxi is such a talented actress. She can draw all the attentions of the viewers. She can act like a female warrior and her acting is so cute when she acts as a young immature girl and who is lack in martial art. Her actings are so lovely.
The romantic scenes are so sweet and lively and my heart beats so fast whenever I watch that scenes. Although she did not specialize in acting at universities, her acting is much much much improved compared to in my little princess(it's just my opinion). Chengyi is also a talented actor. Most of the scenes he acts makes me feel sorry in this.

Acting notbad ,but story messy

Very pity, even though the acting of the actors and actresses is quite good, but the story is really very bad, very messy, and the timing of the story is not right

Even though from the beginning of the story, the "3rd person" mastermind is the topic, but the story doesn't seem to be structured from the start, like they changes the script in the middle of the drama

Indeed, they deliberately made a plot twist, but in this way, it really very annoying, especially since they always delay the two sisters for recognize each other

From the beginning of the story, FULL OF TACTIC AND PLAN, but they never explained what the plan was going to be, but changed it to another scene, so we didn't know which one was their plan.

Some of the dialogues that the cast said were wrong, and I realized that, like Empress Dowoger mentioned Li Yan, Lichen, the actual name in the drama is Qiyan Qi Chen, when Guang Prince talked about the person who was harmed by Yanzhi also said wrong "左车 ",which is actually "左马"

1. Who is the real chess piece for 8 years that guang prince said? Ep 32 minutes ±29 ,,

From the very beginning chengruoyu made a deal with qiuyanzhi and promised to do 3 things after it was over, but that scene seemed to be just a pointless scene at all

I actually don't know where to start from!! Stand by Me was totally my type of costume drama. I loved it from the beginning. The scenery, the martial arts and fighting, dressing and everything else was so beautiful. I would say the storyline was a little different in the sense that the male lead (Qi Yan) was portrayed as the evil king since the start. Personally, I thought that he was really evil but later as the story unfolds, we find out his reasons for everything that happened. Some people may disagree and say that he didn't deserve happiness because a sin is a sin but then he didn't get a happy ending so I guess that was his punishment. He promised peace to his kingdom and kept his word.
The female lead's character was also great. Straightforward and brave. I kind of knew her real identity from the beginning so I was thinking that she would take revenge against the male lead when she finds out he was the one behind her family's tragedy. However to my surprise nothing like that happened. She understood him, stood by him and helped him until the end. This was my first time watching a drama where the female lead doesn't hold a grudge against the male lead after knowing the truth.
At first I really didn't like Qiu YanZhi even though I knew who she was. However after she finds out that Cheng Ruo Yu is her sister, she changes so much. I love the love she had for her younger sister. It was a real heartbreak that Cheng Ruo Yu finds out the truth almost when her sister is about to die. I really wished she didn't die. I love that Qiu YanZhi said in her last moments that her wishes are all about her sister.
I expected a sad ending from the very start but I was still shocked the way they made the ending. I guess the only way for the male lead to make up for everything was his death.
It was a great drama overall so I recommend it to everyone.

A masterpiece for the eyes

This sent me on a roller coaster of emotions this drama.
At times it may seem like things were dragged on for too long but then they were justified accordingly.
It isn't too heavy on the idea of romance as 80% of the drama was more so focused on the struggles in power.
There were constant plot twists and not a lot of them were predictable so it makes it engaging.
The biggest warning I'll have to give you about this drama is the heartbreak and tragedy that occurs throughout it. Left me needing therapy fr.

Happy Binging! (makee sure to have a tissue box with you)

Who stands faithful before the emperor?

A good story. The introduction of the story was filmed too short at the beginning of the episode yet it was relayed well.
The casts did their parts well. May it be small or big, there was no waste. Very good actors. Bravo.
The emperor here was named murderer. His people say that he killed innocent people for the throne. He was called a weak emperor, a puppet of eunuchs. Names that he has to bear. The emperor was left alone in the dark enduring all the shame. There was no one to trust and to lean on to. Who would believe him if he says otherwise? Who would believe him if he says he wants to change Chang'an into a better place? Who would stand faithful beside him?
Then, his s sword holder came into the picture that no matter how naive she was yet she has a big heart and a big understanding. This story teaches us loyalty, trust, love and hope.

Good always triumphs over evil, it's a matter of time. Do you buy this ?

Based on a novel, this drama is one of the most interesting c-drama I have ever watched.
Directors and actors are brilliant ! The production gave it all to offer a high quality drama with wonderfull soundtrack, beautiful scenery and costumes and a very clever storyline.
We are in a chess game. We are not only watchers, we are part of the drama and are with the characters we choose to support. Are you moved by the emperor ? The beautiful piece taker ? The mad eunuch Qiu Ziliang ? The willful Sword Holder ? Any other character ? What are their real story ? Are they the ones we think they are at first ? There are hidden identities, there are secrets, there are plots, there are nice sword fights, there are struggles for power, there are human affections shared or not, there are mentally ill people.. There is amnesia, there is love, there is revenge.
There is no time for getting bored. There is action and emotion. We do understand everyone's point of view and intentions. That's what makes this drama so valuable.
Actors are at their best : they fit so well with their characters ! At first, I was not quite happy with ZhangYuxi's way of acting, but finally she was just astonishing ! Cheng Yi, Xuan Lu and Mickey He were as usual terrific. Michey He gives his all to incarnate a paranoid eunuch with bloodthirsty power. Thumbs up !
I enjoyed watching this show, I really didn't waste my time !
