music montages: the movie

I'm so sorry to everyone who likes this movie/series, but i Hated it.

it definitely has potential, it seems cute, but it felt like the two leads only had like 5 convos total over the 100-something minute runtime. I was so bored...not seeing the leads actually properly interact with each other outside of music montages killed any sort of investment I could've had in them.

I tried to have an open mind and tried watching it twice but this was just Not for me. Too much music, not enough actual dialogue. I can't sustain myself off pure vibes.

"It was you. My other half."

*NOTE. never watched the series, i just stumbled upon the film version on netflix.*

it’s cute but boy is it far from perfect.
-the story itself is my main issue. honestly, there’s just not a lot of substance to the plot therefore it lacks any real impact. the “obstacles” in the plot weren’t really that major so i just kind of found the film a bit dramatic. the, what i would guess is the main conflict, is brought up and resolved in like 5 minutes. (tho it was lowkey hinted in some scenes before) another thing that i had a problem with was the relationship between the two leads. we already know Sang Yi is a super fan ever since he saw him preforming so we can vibe with the love at first sight trope but what about mister Kang In Soo? more scenes that really showed their development and intimacy would have helped in delivering and expressing the two leads' connection.
-i also lowkey feel…that for a story revolved around music...the music itself lacked? i honestly would have liked to hear more songs besides the main one (tho the main song is nice, especially the chorus’ melody) even if they were just snippets. especially since they worked together on Kang In Soo’s album and that’s where they supposedly bonded. also i always try to make my reviews spoiler free but im gonna just sneak this in real quick, !SPOILER AHEAD! that one scene where Kang In Soo gets mad bc they changed the production of his song, it would have been not only more interesting but more powerful if we got to actually hear at least like 15 seconds of the song and witness his expression rather than just see him storm out the studio. !END OF SPOILER! overall in my opinion it just lacked variety in music which is a shame for a film that’s revolved around it.
-so here we are with a story that is weak. what would be the absolute cherry on top that would have been made this film insufferable? bad acting. thank goodness that wasn’t the case here. the acting overall was pretty good! everyone had their role and played it well. i personally think Lee Sang did the best though it probably helped that his character had more range and expression than Kang In Soo.
-in conclusion, the story is cute but that’s it. i don’t necessarily regret watching it but i definitely wouldn’t watch it again. so if you’re not sure whether or not you want to give Wish You a try, i would probably lean with the option of not bothering BUT like i said, i don’t particularly regret watching it so maybe you won’t either!

The story is too simple

I haven't watched the serie, so I don't know if there's any difference, I can only talk about what I saw.

The worst:
I found the movie lacking in the plot department. The story is too simple, there's not really ups and downs, not an obstacle (a serious one) the characters can try to overcome step by step, not a real development of the characters, the relation and the story itself...

The best:
The music is nice -even though it gets a little repetitive-, the acting is good and there's not so many clichés like in other bls

a simple story about music and love

The storyline about roommates is a cliché and, first of all, I don't understand why they had to live together, maybe that's a really necessary step in music productions, but I don't know too much and I wish the movie had talked more about it. Some things happened a little faster than I thought they would, but the movie is short, so there's no time for big and slow developing and I understand that. It's a good and cute movie and I liked, the characters are cool, sweet and the couple has chemistry.

Must watch to left-up your spirit

If you are looking for a lighthearted movie, this is the one for you. This has a beautiful and heartwarming storyline. The script was wonderful and not overly dramatic. You should definitely watch this if you need something to left you up. The series also feels complete, not like some series/movies that introduce a random conflict and even more random conflict resolution. The music was great which is good considering it is about the music industry. They were also good with the music placement throughout the movie. The cinematography was beautiful and they did a really good job with the transition scenes.

Random note: I watched this on Netflix (it’s listed as Wish You) not knowing this was a BL series turned into a movie. If you have a subscription to Netflix, I would recommend watching it on that. The English subtitles are better on Netflix.

This was a nice movie/drama

This was actually really nice! I was worried the ending would be a sad one but it was all good and the ending was very sweet!
I think the couples romance was a little slow tbh, but its okay I still liked it. They just didn’t get the romance between them going for a long time, it was more like Sang yi was a fan of his acting pretty obsessed but it all ended well in the end.
From what i’ve read this is better and more explained than the series so I’m sad I watched the movie version!

A feel good drama and movie

The cast Kang In soo, & Lee sang the chemistry they had was magical. , Su bin and baek seo bin wo 👏👏. I really loved this drama and movie was . I agree with alot of reviews. They are both amazing singer especially when emotions are flowing. I still don't understand how parents could blacklist there own child instead of giving him encouragement and approval. It's funny how he got thru his parents record comp. and almost made it. To bad it's not real-I would have changed names in hoo to sang ji and once album out add his name. 😊Atleast in soo could prove to his parents and himself that he was good enough to make it big. It also seem like that he was also fighting with himself about his sexuallity. This is also very stressful and his best friend could see it but could not help him as Kang in soo didn't talk about his troubles in life. Joonsang yi a very shy person who fall in love with Kang in soo immediately when he saw him busking and show the video to his boss. They get him to sign a record deal and due to contract sang yi moves into In soo house As they get to know each other insoo finally feel happy and comfortable for the first time in along time. There passion for music and understanding made them closer and kang in soo finally accepting his sexuallity. The cast was great. A must see. I watch both drama and movie👍🏻🙂🎭🎥👍🏻

For me, what KK has been adding lately, one film or series after another, is high quality and a beautiful experience, and without his contribution, GT would not be where it is today, thanks to him for that. This is also the case with this film, and I don't mind at all that I haven't seen the untranslated series, which the film summarizes and supplements with other unlisted scenes.
Yes, maybe someone will find the story very simple and too many songs and Korean music, sometimes a bit louder orchestra (that's why I'm deducting one point for the sound in the rating from absolute perfection), but for me this music from the movie is an experience and I came recently for the taste of Asia. Plus two cute Korean actor-singers, what more could you ask for?
And I also know that once I watch the movie a second, third time, I will like it more and more thanks to the music. I have added music videos from this movie to the videos.

Series also available

Kang In Soo and Lee Sang are really sweet together. Their characters are quite understated; there's no OTT melodrama or unnatural discomfort. Sang-yi's slightly shy and humble, yet supportive and positive personality sits so well against In-soo's deeper more confident one. They compliment each other well.
The 2 more intimate scenes were nicely done and the actors were believable. No wooden or uncomfortable posturing.
I liked the story, but did feel that some of the scenes in which feelings were being individually contemplated, against the fitting soundtrack, were a little lengthy. They could have been shortened and a bit more added to other parts of the story; possibly their relationship deepening, or a bigger hint of their musical success to come.
A very nice watch though.

The last Korean BL movie that I saw left me so disappointed because of the way they handled a good storyline and turned in to an incoherent mess that I decided to lay off Korean BLs for some time. When I finally decided to give it one more go, I am glad to have found this movie. It has almost every thing that I am looking for in a BL movie.

Great Storyline: The movie is Kang In Soo a talented singer who is struggling to make a name for himself in the music industry. He wants to become a successful singer and with the help of his friend posts videos on YouTube and even performs on the streets. Yoon Sang Yi, a keyboardist and a part timer at a music company meets Kang In Soo on the street and is captivated by him. The music company scouts Kang In Soo and signs him up to record a label and Yoon Sang Yi moves in with him to help him as an assistant to the producer. In the course of them working together, they start sharing a special bond and a new relationship takes root.

Strong Characters: The movie is about 2 characters, Kang In Soo a singer who wants to make big in the music industry to prove a point to someone. That strong conviction is backed by talent. He is a great singer who we see smile against all the trouble he faces in making his dreams come true. He is a fighter and won’t compromise when it comes to his love for music. He also is aware about his limitations and doesn’t shy away from asking help from friends to make himself better. The second character is Yoon Sang Yi. He is a keyboardist who is part of a small band that performs on streets. He also has a part time job in a music company that hunts for new talents. He appreciates genuine talent like when he encounters Kang In Soo and works hard with him to help him realise his dream. He is caring and shy and we notice this through the multiple interactions that he has with other characters in the movie.

Reasonable Obstacles: Many a movie and series feel that a misunderstanding is what is required to create a drama in a budding relationship. Not this one though. There is no 3rd act breakup. Instead, we see genuine issues that you would face in the course of realising your dream and how it can hinder your progress and make you re-evaluate your life goals. Kang In Soo feels defeated at a certain point due to constant hurdles and takes a break from everything leaving Yoon Sang Yi feeling abandoned.

In conclusion, after previous disappointing Korean series this was a breath of fresh air. We had great characters, amazing actors who performed exceptionally well and a great storyline that was handled well.

A sweet but not yet complete love story

I did not watch the series, and also did not know there were added scenes to the original story, when I watched this. I think this a beautiful, short and simple love story. After watching the movie, I read some bad reviews saying that it lacked character development. Another review said there was no conflict in the story line. I somewhat disagree. I think the conflict emerged at the end of the film (both guys may be questioning their feelings) and therefore I am hoping there will be a sequel to this one where we get too see how their love relationship develops.

Yes, we don't get to know much about Sang Yi's background (family, friends, past love affairs), but does it matter? We also could only guess a bit about In Soo's past, when his manager shared about In Soo's character to Sang Yi. Then we find out that his father was the CEO of the company (I had already sort of guessed that In Soo came from a wealthy family, who for some reason left home). Bu it didn't really matter to me not knowing much about their backgrounds, and this would be the very reason why we need a sequel to this movie. It had a happy ending, but I'm curious to know how the main leads continue with their lives.

I loved the music, especially the theme song, I found out that both actors are singers in real life and they recorded the music together. This perhaps explain why the chemistry between In Soo and Lee Sang (Sang Yi) was s great. I also think Lee Sang brilliantly acted his role as a closeted gay guy who was kind of shy, or uncertain about his own feelings. All those awkward moments, like when he saw In Soo passing by on the street, and he chased In Soo who was in a cafe, and the scenes in the company, where he wasn't sure whether he should enter the studio or not, knowing that In Soo was there, was probably something everyone experienced when having a crush for someone else. And in this particular story, it's about a guy having a crush towards another guy. Lee Sang brilliantly expressed the confusion a closeted gay would get when attracted to another guy, especially one who remains mysterious, ambiguous and enigmatic like In Soo. The subtleties in their interactions were really what made this movie interesting, like the casual hug at In Soo's place, the physical closeness they showed while singing together, and finally the kissing scene and the awkwardness they both felt after the kiss.

I liked this movie, even though the story was somewhat simple. The music also helped build the mood to make this movie a memorable one. A sweet, yet not yet complete, love story.

Beautiful song

I watched the movie version, and I heard it has more scenes than the series version, so that's a plus.
The story is simple and good, the actors are great, overall this show is great. But, the thing that stands out the most is their song. I LOVE their song to pieces; Wish You by Kang In Soo and Lee Sang. That first scene with them supposedly singing together is just breath-taking. I've been listening to it for a month now, sometimes on repeat for hours and I still love it. It is just beautiful and make me feel happy and in love.
