If only....

I really appreciate its style but the plot was sacrificing way too much in favor of its supposed black comedy. Sure the drama had its high moments where the comedy really shined but the endless 12 episodes chase was exhausting and poorly executed. At least there's more to like about it, the drama had a good selection of soundtracks that amplified its stylistic moments. I wish this drama was a movie, it would have been a lot more fitting for what it had to offer. Anyway, the drama seems to be an accurate representation of Lee Young Ae's long hiatuses.

Best dark comedy

I don’t know why some ratings are so low for this series but it’s not everyone cup a tea haha I genuinely enjoyed this one and don’t really post match reviews for k dramas unless I really enjoyed it ? this is one of the best k drama that I have ever watched in a very long time. Not corny but funny and also suspicious as well not that cliche like other series. I really do hope they make another season! It is honestly worth the watch and it all depends on the individuals and their preferences and like I mentioned before not everyone’s cup a tea. Please give it a go because i would rate this 10/10 ❤️❤️

Absolutely Loved It!

I haven't liked a female driven (investigative) Korean drama this much since Mrs. Cop. Inspector Koo is an ex-police officer turned insurance investigator that no one really wants to work with. The thing is, she's the best, and if you want results, you need her. She's sees things others don't and can connect the dots like no one else. As a person she's slovenly and plagued by her past, but her mind sharp. Along with 2 insurance investigators and her favorite fellow gamer, she uncovers and solves crimes. At issue isn't the who, it's the why and how.

The story sounds absurd. In fact it is, but it is well crafted and written. The crew including the director were very good. The action and fight sequences have great choreography. Our two female leads, Lee Young Ae (Inspector Koo) and Kim Hye Joon, were excellent. They had great chemistry with each other and the rest of the cast. Actually, the entire cast worked well, which is rare. I think it's probably because there was no forced romance, which I liked. There is a romance between an atypical K-drama couple that was handled very well.

The music was really good. I especially enjoyed the theme along with the animated credits. The re-watch value is high for those that re-watch dramas, I don't, but I can see this one being on one's list. And I can also see me re-watching if there is a season 2 that comes out years later.

Overall, Inspector Koo is fantastic. I wish there had been a little bit more background on our major characters and that certain things (ok 2) were handled differently, but it's one of the best I've seen in a long time.

Let's play "count the flies"...there were a LOT.

First of all, regardless of what the inspiration for this Kdrama was, do not expect anything like (or remotely close to) Killing Eve. For me, that wasn't a bad thing at all. This drama is expertly done, the characters are so well written and the interactions between all the characters are packed with so much chemistry. I've seen some less than positive reviews, but I honestly don't know what left field they came from because this drama is so engaging and well done.

The main villain was really appealing, I totally bought her 100% as the bad guy, she was absolutely insane but in the most pleasant way to watch. The music that played whenever she was going crazy was so memorable and felt exactly what her head must have felt like while she was high on the darkness within. The entire OST was really expertly crafted and matched the scenes perfectly.

The main and side characters were all interesting, there was a lot of humor, and the evil darkness of the plot was so colorfully presented with such rich character interactions. But above everything else, the FL was spectacular. Out of every single minute of the drama there was only one tiny scene at the end where I didn't buy her performance, and it was super super minor. In every other moment of this drama her character is so expertly depicted, I never once felt like her behavior was unrealistic at all. Her interactions with every single character in the drama absolutely made the show successful.

To the dude who scoffed at the dirty gamer chick aspect of things, it isn't just guilt that makes someone like this, it's depression. Living in filth, obsessing over an intricate hobby, failing to bathe, drinking, generally not caring about the world around you, these are all massive signs of depression and I thought the drama did a great job of portraying them. 500% better than dragging someone out of the gutter and having them be suddenly competent and successful. This was, in my mind, completely realistic and very much mirrors how some people deal with grief. Something like the suicide of a spouse destroys most people left behind, and I think it would have been disingenuous to represent it otherwise.

I rated this drama really highly not just because it impressed me so much while watching it, but also because the stories and OST stuck with me long after the drama had ended. I really hope there's a season 2 so we can figure out Santa's whole deal. I'm really glad the show didn't focus on "fixing the broken person" but instead molded itself around her like a blanket, allowing her to retain her eccentricities without trying to force her into some societal mold of what a functional human being should be.

Dark, quirky, surreal at times... SO good!

Just finished this on Netflix and so enjoyed it.
A very quirky, darkly amusing, slightly surreal crime caper. I also fell for Santa (Baek Sung-chul).
Lee Young-ae is perfect in the lead. A favourite mature actress, Kim Hae-sook, was great in a role the likes of which I'd not seen her play before; and I loved seeing Lee Hong-nae again, who was so good in The Uncanny Counter.
'K' is very vulnerable at times and it's often hard not to like her, until she starts to lose her purpose.
Totally felt for Lee Hong-nae's character at one point, although I wondered how much he was beholding to 'K' and how much it was for kicks.
A drama that is barkingly good fun at times.
The OST is a favourite now (and there are several Playlists of it on Spotify).
