Organic relationship amidst dramatic past!

Firstly, I want to say that I scarcely write reviews here. And I want to put my review here because this series kinda surprised me. I literally didn't expect it to be this good because there are many drama series that I got recommended a lot with promotional videos etcetera on YouTube and other platforms. But most of them turn out to be 'not worth the hype'. On the contrary, I just started watching this series just because I wanted to cross it off my watchlist. Honestly, my expectations were pretty low. But, I got hooked after a few episodes.

Now, let's talk about the two main characters first. This couple has a HEALTHY relationship despite the fact that they started off as FWB. No one here clings to their exes or having no consideration to their partners regardless of their statuses: just BED FRIENDs. It's so obvious that they respect each other. I gotta say that I guessed at least one of the two (at least and most the times, it's both) will mess up their agreement and hurt each other. For an example, King the playboy starting to sleep with other people or maybe forcing on Uea. Or Uea getting back with the a**hole bf or starting to go out or agreeing other people to make King jealous or something. I don't know how old they are in the series but I'm guessing they may be in their early twenties. And I swear most of the guys in bl act like big kids. I mean, it's not rare to see a nearly thirty years old bachelor getting flustered and indecisive in bl stories. Both King and Uea are quite mature for their age. King comes from an almost perfect (rich and not abusive parents) family, so I get it. But with someone like Uea who had encountered series of traumatic experiences and horrible parents, it's surprising that he became such an admirable and ethical human being. The best thing I love about him is how he's so serious in everything. At the start of the series, I thought he'd become an annoying uke and thought I'd like King more but he's so likeable that by any chance if I'm asked to choose I'll probably be team Uea. But really, I like both of them equally.

The story isn't perfect or anything amazing, but it's not a trashy plot at all. Somehow , I feel like it's real life events. And I know that some are complaining about the rated scenes but for me I think it's moderate. But yeah, I think it would be a PERFECT if the editing team didn't mess up too much. Still, I applaud not only the actors but also directors and creators for such entertaining series and making approaches like how mental health is important. I love the little scenes like King giving Uea prescribed meds, how he hired a detective to investigate about the stepfather and many more. Many of their interactions and scenes are done naturally. I'm not saying they'll be "happily ever after". Like all relationships, there will be bumps and they may even be separated one day at one point who knows but, for all I care, they both look pretty happy now and care for each other.

About the acting, this is the first project I've seen of the actors. So, I don't know how's their acting in their other works but here, they done great jobs. I'm a loyal bl fan but I'm one of those people who prefer QUALITY over QUANTITY. And it's a big no no if actors can't act no matter how they can be gorgeous. I would like to thank the casting team for not only having eyes for visuals but also picking people who can act. And I'm guessing people who are complaining about James' acting haven't seen a lot of bls. As an old loyal bl fan, I can vouch his acting is not even among the bad ones in y industry. Trust me on this, I've seen worst of worse 😑

Overall, I say it's a good watch. 10/10 for the chemistry. And I think this is one of the bls that you either enjoy too much or maybe just a little bit but you can't hate this. And finally, I like that it has just the right amount of length: not too long or short.

FWB to lovers

Office frienamies transition a flaming hot one night stand into a f-buddy relationship, that is essentially built on a puppy/cat dynamic (and kinks into it at one point). Our puppy is loyal, smitten, and protective with endlessly worshipful eyes, while our cat is snarky, prickly, and deeply damaged (ALL THE TRIGGERS). I have been waiting for James to hold down (or be held down in) a BL for years! I like that there’s a dark underbelly (*snicker*) of trauma to this one, it has a slightly a Japanese feel which suits mature characters and an office setting. King’s yearning worried eyes are glorious. Poor thing, he totally adores this beautiful broken fragile boy and doesn’t know how to capture his attention. I admit Net was the one I worried about with this pair. James was always gonna be great. It turns out, I didn’t have to worry. I love it when high heat is used to serve the characters and the narrative, as well as us fans. (In other words, take away the sexualized part of this relationship and the whole story would fall apart.)

So in the end, NetJames did give lovely high-heat with excellent chemistry and tuned-in performances of surprising depth, unfortunately the story ultimately failed them. Had the show had the strength of its convictions and kept to a tighter, darker, harsher 8 eps it would have been the first high heat to earn 10/10 from me, but once they fussed with it, it dropped to a solid 8/10.

Could have been great but they overworked it. Still if high heat is your thing, this one will not let you down.

Deeper than the title suggests

The title would make you think that this is all about 2 characters and them exploring a relationship as 'friends with benefits' and you wouldn't be wrong Uea (James) and King (Net) certainly give you a lot of that, and their chemistry is no joke on screen........however there is a lot, lot, more to the story that this simple idea.

First of all we have the mother from hell! However the actress was extremely good. Uea's mother doesn't like the fact he is gay and basically treats him as a human ATM with no feelings whatsoever.........worse than that we find as the series goes on that Uea has been physically and sexually assaulted from a young age and now has such a low opinion of him himself that he feels he isn't good enough for love.......simply sex.........enter his relationship with King. King on the other hand knows nothing of this, but his actions around Uea seem to make things alternately better and worse, depending on what's happening.

Apart from dysfunctional families, abusive parents, sexual abuse and even workplace abuse.........this show also covers abuse of power, loss of confidence, attempted rape.......and even towards the end therapy as well as the long term effects of abuse on the individual but any relationship they might attempt.

For a show with a name like 'Bed friends' it is actually a very deep and touching story........Net and James, as always, are fabulous on screen together and leave you wanting more of their interactions, but the supporting cast does not disappoint either. Despite the heavy contents, the show still manages to give you a nice blend of comedy and stupidity, which balances it nicely and the music is ok.

If you want a Thai BL that is more mature than most and with great casting, this is definitely one to try.

not the best, but #1 in my heart

This is my first (and probably only) review on MDL and it’s going to be very very subjective, but I wanted to contribute. You’re probably looking at my ratings and going wow this person is nuts. Well, you’re not wrong. Anyways, I’m not the best at words, but I still want to give my honest opinion of this drama as I think it has too many negative reviews in and outside of this website.

Aside from the terrible and rushed production, questionable editing that is all over the place, way too many shots of the city & buildings as a lame excuse for a transition, and the background music that cuts off weirdly, I still really enjoyed the show.

I haven’t read the novel, but from the many reviews I’ve seen of people that have read it, they all mentioned that it is one of the best written Thai BL novels. And even though the directing of this drama falls behind and feels as if a high schooler directed it, I think they managed to get the essence of the story.

Before starting this drama, I was already interested in it because of the plot and had it instantly added to my watch list. I’m a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers (light on ‘enemies’) trope turned into FWB and then there is the PINING. So much pining! To be honest, if anything, this drama’s plot feels a lot like a fanfic come to life and that’s one of the appealing factors for me. I saw some negative views that said this show “doesn’t have a plot.” But the plot /is/ Uea’s daily life, his love-related struggles, and him working to overcome his trauma. And even if it’s not an overly fancy plot like other dramas have, it doesn’t mean it’s bad. Sometimes the life and struggles of a character are engaging enough to just have that as the story.

Before I started watching the drama, I wasn’t yet a fan of NetJames, but watching some clips from the first couple episodes, I knew they’d instantly become a favorite. And NetJames are definitely the reason this drama has a hold on me like no other. Their chemistry is some of the best I’ve ever seen, and they truly bring King & Uea to life. King is hands down one of the greenest of flags in a BL and for that alone, I would recommend this drama to anyone and everyone. And Uea? Uea is such a strong and wonderful MC, we as an audience really feel for him and his never-ending trauma and horrible luck. Overall, King & Uea’s relationship, although it started out as FWB and could have gone a lot of (wrong)ways, they turned out to be one of the most wholesome, healthy, and sweet couples.

While the directing and editing team could use an upgrade (or change altogether), they certainly brought up a lot of good topics to address in the show. From the episode with KingUea going to get tested after their one night stand, to the positive portrayal of seeking a therapist and taking medication for Uea’s trauma, it’s nice to see all these things normalized on the big screen.

And lastly, for some negatives, the most disappointing thing for me (aside the aforementioned second paragraph), were of course the many scenes cut out from the show. Whatever their reasoning may have been, it’s a pity that so many of their more intimate scenes were cut even in the “uncut” version of the episodes. The fans can only hope they would make it right by adding them into a future DVD set version. And maybe redo some(all) of the editing overall.

Production: 2/10
Visual fx: ??/10 (Though I do want to say, the whole budget went into the graphic design projects Uea & Jade were working on. At least it wasn’t a blank screen.)
Background music: 4/10 (sometimes too much, sometimes stops weirdly, what is going on no one knows)
OST: 10/10 I have to say Feel Fan is one of my most favorite theme songs out of all dramas.
Acting: 9/10 for NetJames, questionable for some of the others.
Rewatch value: for me personally? 1000/10 I honestly could watch King & Uea’s story for a million more episodes.

An objective overall rating? Around 6/10 or 7/10 if we’re being sincere. But my subjective overall rating will stay at 10/10 because despite the many shortcomings, I haven’t felt this way about a drama in more than 10 years. And that in itself is enough for me to give it the highest rating.

Don’t miss!

Such a good story with excellent acting. The story so much more than the title suggests. The actors all work well together and 2 leads have incredible chemistry. Scenes that may seem somewhat “cheesy” are acted out so well that they are just super cute! I would even like a season 2 of this. There were very serious topics that were addressed in a serious, but relatable manner. Take the time to watch this. You will not regret it!

Hopefully we will see these actors in many more dramas!

Also, it was nice that this was picked up by IQIYI. Sometimes it’s hard to watch on YouTube

Almost perfect

I really loved this series. I appreciate it that the intimate scenes weren't too graphic like KP and LITA. You have to have those sometimes. The last two episodes were my favorite. They were cute, funny, and romantic. Also, the acting was A+, mostly on the antagonists' parts. The actress that played Uea's mom did a fantastic job at just awful and someone you would hate irl. The little sister actress did a really good job too.

The only thing I really have to complain about is all the hell Uea went through. He dealt with it in a healthy way toward the end, but I feel like it was too much. It seemed like constant "mmm watch ya say" moments over and over (if you get the reference, we're best friends now).

I'm really glad we get a season 2/spinoff (Middleman's Love) because seeing Tutor in the very last scene of the last episode was entirely not enough for me. Ok that's it bye.

1st BL, but people needs to understand....

that there is more to mature themes than just the steamy scenes. For those of you who thought it focused too much on the trauma aspect, I think it shows how well, and very realistic families like that can be. There are women in this world who are mothers that rely on their husbands so much that no matter what they're child says they'd always think they're lying. Mothers who only care about the paychecks more so than loving their child. And sadly, in life I've seen it that way where a person was in the LGBTQIA+ community and they want their parents love so badly they fork over the cash despite the endless abuse. Uea's story is very real. I'll admit, King was the player, but I don't they were ever fully enemies like they suggest, they just misunderstood each other. He kept flirting with Uea because he knew that he was the one. He just had a wall and he put it up. It was Uea that was the only one that could tear it down. For my first BL that was beyond a 10/10 it deserved more.

This will forever be a favourite!

I loved NetJames's chemistry, it felt so deep made me feel a lot. I really enjoyed how they took mental health seriously, and how the pace and plot was well balanced.

Uea as a character was relatable for me and I loved him both for how he grows and also for just how sassy and funny he can be 😂

King was very supportive and capable of portraying emotion and care for someone which I really liked.
The actora were incredible, definetly my new favourites ❤️

I can't wait to see more of their work!

One of my Top 5 favorites

So first off ... Net and James are inexplicably gorgeous! I would pretty much watch any show with the two of them!
I know at the beginning I was expecting more of a friends with benefits storyline and not a lot of romance and more of the frenemies type moments. The fact that there is a bunch of romantic moments makes this series a bit more lovable.
There are some instances where people might feel uncomfortable watching certain scenarios, but in all reality, it happens in real life and could be portrayed as 100xs worse. We may not want to see or think about it, but that's what a FF button is for. Uea's backstory is hard to watch, but it helps to better understand where he's coming from when it comes to his relationship and reluctance with King. Net and James did an excellent job so far with their roles and even their characters' supportive friends have nailed it!
With every new episode, I start back at the beginning and watch all the episodes including the new one! That's how much of a rewatch factor I think this show has! There always seems to be a few more nuances or new details that I catch every time I watch it.
And I don't think a negative review after 1 or 2 episodes is really fair to the cast and production team.

Give it a try, you will never regret it and I loved the series. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Honestly i have never rated a bl drama.Never even watched a bl before 4 months. But have watched so many in short time including love in the air, tharntype, don't say no, a shoulder to cry on and many more. For bed friends series, first i hestitated to watch it because i'm 20 years old and not interested in those type dramas. being drunk and being friends with benifits ? I'm a person who is strict to rules maybe.I thought it would be damn bad series. But honestly i wanted to know uea's childhood more because his mother's action,is she don't have a konwladge to know.It is not his fault being gay. it's just biological reasons. But I never understood how it works too but i'm not hating for being gay. I was like, how a boy could have feeling for a boy ? I was shoked after watching bl's and feeling their love and care for eachother. Then i realized feeling has no gender.Best couple ever.I have no words to explain just go and watch the sereies. Netjames did a briliant work together.Love them so much.Remember it's not what it seems like.it's not just sex,it's pure love.Don't judge a book by it's cover.plot is very well written.Had mix emtions while watching.I smiled, cried feared, laughted, screamed and got angry sometimes. It includes all emtions.I higly recommend bed friend to every bl fan. They are really excellent actors i can feel their love for eachother while watching. hope netjames will make more series.james did great job as uea.His emtions made me cry at sometimes.I can feel uea's pain because of his great acting.directors and the team well done.please watch the series.Give it a try you will never regret it.

Discover the Heartwarming Moments and Unforgettable Characters in This Must-watch series.

OMG, where do I even begin? This series is seriously the best thing that has happened to me in a long time! It's like they took all the elements that make a show incredible and combined them into one masterpiece. From the very first episode, I was hooked. The story unfolded at the perfect pace, not too slow and not too fast. It kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting for what would happen next.

And let's talk about the acting, oh my goodness! I don't even have words to describe how perfect it is. Every single actor in this series is absolutely phenomenal. They bring their characters to life in such a way that you can't help but feel deeply connected to them. It's like they're not just acting, they're living and breathing these roles. I am so incredibly proud of them and the incredible work they've done.

One of the most emotional moments for me was when the boss recommended a psychiatrist to Uea. I couldn't help but cry my eyes out. It was such a thoughtful and kind gesture, showing that even the seemingly tough boss cares deeply about Uea's well-being. It was a powerful reminder that sometimes, the people we least expect can surprise us with their compassion.

And speaking of Uea, my heart swelled with pride when he finally found the courage to speak up and be true to himself. After years of enduring hardships, he finally embraced who he truly is, thanks to the love and support of King and Jade. Their unwavering support and acceptance is truly heartwarming. It's like they're a beacon of light in Uea's life, guiding him towards self-love and acceptance.

But you know what surprised me? When I discovered that Uea had an aunt to run to. I always thought he had no one by his side other than King and Jade. So when I found out about his aunt, I was on cloud nine! It's like a weight lifted off my shoulders, knowing that Uea has someone else who cares for him and supports him. It's like finding an unexpected treasure in the midst of all the challenges.

Now, let's talk about the villains in this series. Oh boy, do they know how to make us hate them! Their performances are so convincing that I can't help but cringe whenever they appear on screen. It just goes to show how talented they are at portraying these evil characters. Kudos to them for making us despise their characters so much!

And can we take a moment to appreciate that scene where King gets all shy from a cheek kiss? It's just too adorable! It perfectly captures the overwhelming emotions he feels for Uea. You can see the gratitude and love in his eyes. It's moments like these that make my heart melt and remind me why I love this series so much.

I could go on and on about all the amazing moments and characters in this series, but I don't want to spoil too much.

This one was for me!

Yes, this series was made for me. I don't know where to start praising. First of all, I would like to thank for bringing my ideal relationship dynamic to the BL world. The relationship between King and Uea was one of the healthiest relationships you will ever see in the world of BL, even though it started off on the wrong foot. So I really don't know how to praise. First of all, I can relate to Uea very much because his personality type is very close to me so I love him so much. Whereas King is completely my ideal type. He is someone who will give princess treatment to his partner. There is no other character like him in bls, he is very original and completely made for me.

There are actually very deep and dark events going on in the story , but no one wants to see them. While very dark events are happening, we are also watching a very entertaining office romance. Everything is together and completely balanced, perfect for me.

Also, it was one of my favorite parts that I could understand the actions and behaviors of both characters clearly. I didn't think anyone was acting ridiculous. I could understand both characters very well. What didn't I say? It was perfect and it was made for me.
