Look, it's a cute idea. But I think if you want to watch a good crime/fairytale blend, you're better off watching Hoodwinked (2005).Once Upon a Crime is a whodunnit lazily mashed together with a Disney-esque Cinderella story (I'm referring the animated one, not the kickass Whitney Houston one). The characters have no depth, nor is the world-building overly creative. I don't mind a bit of oddball humour but it ended up being annoying.
It's a shame. I think if the creators had thought outside the box a bit, this could've been decent. I got bored and dropped it around 30min in.

Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella with a twist...
The cast was really good, especially Kirei Miritani, I didn't expect her to be part of this film. I watched it when I saw that Yuko was part of the cast.There were some loopholes in the story, but still I had not have the faintest idea as to who was murderer.
This was really a fresh take on the stories that we watched growing up.
Some questions still remain:
Did Red have special power or was that her intuition?
Why did the King let everyone go when the murderer wasn't cleary caught during the ball?

We already know the original story of the Red Riding Hood, yet this movie was not about the young girl's trip to visit her grandmother and encountered the Big Bad Wolf. Akazukin has set out on a journey, yet along the way encountered an incident that led to the discovery of a murder! And it's up to Akazukin to identify the real culprit.
Akazukin met with Cinderella, and decided to help her to go to the ball. Yet they ended up involved in a murder investigation. And the truth later on end up unlike what anyone could've expected.
I totally didn't expect how Gintama-like this movie end up being. And Sato Jiro playing the king just brought back the old Kagura-Henpeita banter that always amuse me. And seriously I love the different take on the 'fairy god mother' trope in which in this movie was just an old witch who's a bit bad on magicking people's shoes and her niece who's a bit better at it.
I really enjoyed this movie, and it's a pity that it's not a serial drama. I would've love watching what other kinds of adventure that Akazukin would encounter.

As crazy as it is, i find it good and I THINK I WANT MORE
At first i thought i was watching the wrong kanna hashimoto movie, but then i realized it really real hahahaha like what the fuck of fever dream this is... I guess it was my mistake too since i didn't look at the tags and i just immendiately went head on to the movie after seeing kanna hashimoto.But yeah beginning of the movie might be rough cuz of the anime acting and all of its cringeness, but you'll get used to it and find it really funny and interesting.
I think it has its own charm, once you'll stuck with it. It's really a nice unique spin of the princess fairytale

Different story
Quite interesting when read the summary of this movie. Really different with other cinderella or red riding hood story. In this movie they combine it with mystery.... Let's watch....The biggest difference:
* They have 2 FL, but this is not story about GL. Of course I'm talk about cinderella & red riding hood together at 1 movie. Me of course never encounter this in any movie / drama. Except maybe that Hollywood drama, once upon the time, where they kinda combine every character in the story book....
* This is the story about mystery, where the red riding hood as the detective. & that's mean this is definitely not story about cinderella find her prince charming....
* We have 2 fairy godmother... 2 FL so that mean 2 fairy godmother.... Hohoho....
* They tell us over and over how important beauty in this world... Hoho... Usually it just common knowledge among the people not something people talk about so bluntly....
* Prince charming already had love interest before meet cinderella... Haha... This definitely the first I think, where prince charming not fall in love with cinderella...
Then the biggest surprise come in the end. You'll never ever guess who is the perpetrator in this mystery drama.... That's something so refreshing to see they so dare to make the unusual perpetrator....
Overall this really one good & refreshing take for the story we common with & make a twist with it.... I really hope we can get another story from detective red riding hood....

After watching it I really wish Japan would adapt more of those webnovels and manga based on western fantasy where everyone is Japanese but has English names and set in fictional western based countries. They could just be fun little series and I would really enjoy watching them a lot. Korean ones would do too but they can be more serious and Japanese ones more light hearted. There are so many great stories in those webnovels, webtoons and mangas. I wish I could watch them as live action series.

Cute retelling
This was a re-telling that was fun. It has a happy ending, yet leaves the door open for future re-telling. As is often the case with Japanese productions, there are always one or two people that overact. The witch was such a person, but finally settled into her role.There was a fun twist to the story that I didn’t see coming. The actress playing Little Red Riding hood was very good. I just wish they hadn’t made her hair red, it blended too much with her cape. Small quibble. Since there is a requirement for a certain number of words in reviews, I’ll say that I would recommend this if you don’t want to make too much of a time commitment.

It defends horrible people
The movie starts out funny and takes a dark turn. I typically don't view a lot of Japanese live action media, unlike anime, I just don't like a lot of the humor, so I stepped out and tried it, since it was a movie not a show and I was highly upset at the message at the end of the show, there was nothing that was going to save it. Honestly if you defend the message in this story I would like to see your defense of Weinstein, it's the same thing.Cinderella did nothing wrong in this story and it's a great to see how many think self defense is "wrong" as if anyone would honestly do anything to men in power who violate women.
The spoilers is that the hair cutting is an allegory for S.A. and Cinderella was a victim who defended herself against a predator leading to his death, but he somehow isn't the bad guy even though everyone knew he was violating women, but as long as he keeps the ruling class looking pretty who cares how many women he violates. Never again. Honestly

Para quem já assistiu Scooby-Doo o final é parecido, não é aquele tipo de investigação que você vai acompanhando e dando para deduzir o que aconteceu. O filme inteiro é tentando descobrir o assassino, no entanto você vai coletando as pistas junto com os personagens e no final tudo é revelado de uma vez só quando pegam o assassino que nem no Scooby-Doo. É aquele tipo de programa para assistir almoçando quando não sabe o que colocar, não tem muita emoção, no entanto a proposta foi boa. Fugiu bastante dos padrões (o que não é ruim) ao atribuir vários características diferentes aos personagens "bonzinhos" e "malvados" que estamos acostumados. Não assista se estiver entediada(o), pois você pode achar bem chato. Eu não desgostei, mas não vai ser um filme na qual eu recomendarei.Was this review helpful to you?
