Addictive, over-the-top melodrama at its finest, with a great romance, and the perfect length . . .

Now this is how you tell a modern cinderella story! Jung Yoo Min as Han Yi Joo excels as she seizes her chance to grow some strength against her maddeningly selfish family. Sung Hoon as Seo Do Guk is the perfect partner, truly supportive, protective and considerate. Together, through all the ridiculous twists and turns of the plot they stay true to themselves. This keeps the plot from getting frustrating, you are never mad at the main characters, just the circumstances they find themselves in.

There's lots of protectiveness and rescuing, and it's just all around good fun. A couple points off for 1) incorporating prejudices in about adoption/step family (over and over 'true blood' relatives support each other in the way that not 'true blood' relatives do not) 2) there was a not sex-positive, dubious consent sex scene that was thrown in for no good reason.

Music, cinematography, are all competent and typical of this style of drama. If you like dramatic over the top plots and a strong side of romance this is for you.

I WILL NO LONGER FEEL PAIN! NOTHING WILL TURN RED ANYMORE.

I thank MBN for showing that a drama with a modest budget, but with a good script, well-developed and implemented clichés, well-executed plot and direction, can indeed be successful and win over the audience. This drama has demonstrated that it is possible to achieve this feat. The ending of the drama, in my opinion, presents all loose ends properly tied up, with a clear and conclusive conclusion. The explanation for the characters' second chance in life was simple: "God wanted it, and it's all right."

Of course, this drama has become one of my favorites on MDL, being an incredible experience to follow these twelve episodes. I hope MBN produces more dramas with the same atmosphere.

Now that the drama is over, I can say that, in the webtoon, there are three characters who go back to the past (the protagonists and Kim Jae Won). I believe that not including this plot for Kim did not harm the development of the story. If MBN wanted to, they could have extended the plot to 16 to 20 episodes, but it's all right. It's good to end things at their peak, which helps preserve good memories.

Web drama vibes

Hmmmmmmm this gives me web drama vibes. And maybe they could do better. The acting is on top tho. The story is a little bit rush. the detail is not detail if you understand what i mean. i swear to god, they could've done soooooooooo much better. I'm a little bit upset.

And they do like, reverse relationship. Like wedding first, then wedding registration, and proposal (although he proposed with a flower ring before). Not a bad thing tho. I'm glad they show their daughter at the end of the episode.

and why don't her sister stay with her father tho? did i miss something

The male lead is such a green flag!!!!!?

Let’s start with the good part
The male lead!!!Ive watched him in a few dramas but I absolutely loved him here..He played the role so perfectly. The female lead is such a great actress.
The acting was good, the display of emotions were so real.
We definitely knew they would get their revenge,we knew how they would get their revenge..The drama was predictable. But still a good watch.

Now the not so good part
The begining of this drama made me so angry,I almost dropped it after the first 2 episodes..The main leads kept me going.I don’t know who this sound engineer is but ,they could have done better..The drama is just so noisy. From noisy footsteps to thoughts that have sounds..

The show is worth a try.The storyline isn’t anything we haven’t seen before .But the acting was great .

Just A Typical RomCom

First things first, do NOT go into this show thinking this is anything resembling a revenge drama. It's not! No, I didn't see any trailers nor did I have any prior knowledge of this series before I watched it, so maybe it's my fault for assuming that. Either way, this is definitely nothing of the sort. It's a nice, cheesy, typical romantic comedy. Truly. As long as you watch it with that little tidbit in mind, you should be fine going into this story. (Also, I've decided that I'm actually going to remember the character names from now on to make these reviews more seamless.)

Now. The one thing I will say is that this was another show that I felt had amazing potential but it fell flat for me in some aspects. While I understand that expecting the female lead to hit us with a complete 180 was unrealistic to begin with, I still expected her to have more of a backbone than she did. After watching the first episode, you would be under the impression that she's going to be a tough, femme fatale getting back at her family and ensuring that she doesn't waste her life again. Wrong! You would be dead wrong if you allowed yourself to believe that? What's wrong with you? (I'm joking about that, friends. That was just a little bit of sarcasm.) But seriously, I fully expected Yi Joo to go toe-to-toe with her stepmother and stepsister and never miss a single step. In fact, I expected her to always be three, maybe four, steps ahead of literally everyone else. She has the advantage here! She's the only one (that we know of at this point) that has literally traveled back through time. She knows what most of her opponents and enemies don't know. So, why isn't she beating them at their own game? Why wasn't she able to do that?

Granted, I understand that she couldn't possibly be three steps ahead of her brother-in-law because he was running circles around his own family for years. She couldn't possibly beat him, but HER family? Yes, she should have been able to neutralize them very very early on in this show. She simply didn't, and I don't understand why the writers wrote it that way either. Which brings me to another issue I had - there were far too many players in this game. There were far too many moving parts in this machine and that bogged the show down tremendously. There was no reason for this show to have this many villains at once. Absolutely none. In my opinion, they should have picked one - if it was going to be Jung Wook, then let it be him. If it was going to be Yi Joo's family, then let it be them and only them. It didn't need to be both sides of the family causing a ruckus here.

Back to my original point though - there were times when Yi Joo allowed people to chew her out and she stood there and said nothing! When her pathetic ex-fiancé chewed her out in the bridal shop, I wanted to scream! Why are you letting him, of all people, chew you out and humiliate you in front of all of these people? Especially when YOU didn't do anything wrong. Se Hyeok only married you to get closer to your sister, who he was truly in love with. In knowing that, that man could NEVER raise his voice to me out of indignance. It wouldn't have happened. Yi Joo should have shut that down immediately! I understand her needing to get stronger to fight back against her stepmother, but that shouldn't apply to everyone else. Everyone else should be fair game. These people abused, isolated, alienated, and treated you like a stranger in your own home since you were a child. Where's your anger? Where's your fire? Where is it?! Your own father allowed his wife to do all of those things to you and he said nothing. Now that I'm thinking about it - maybe that makes more sense to the story. Maybe the reason Yi Joo didn't know how to stand up for herself is because her own biological father didn't know how to either. Like father, like daughter.

I have no notes on her husband. Do Guk was fine. I had no issues with him. I did, however, have some issues with his story though. Let me explain - yes, I know that he traveled through time like she did. However, there were some things he'd say that made no sense. He mentioned the fact that Yi Joo spoke casually to him first and that's why he felt so comfortable doing that when they met in the future. However, we NEVER saw anything like that. In fact, Yi Joo questioned whether he even knew her before she got married when they met in the current timeline (that's technically in the past, weirdly enough). So, when did they have this conversation? During the big reveal, that was something that was still left unexplained. They went back to the events of the first episode but not any further than that. I think the writers wanted to fully sell the idea that they knew each other but they failed at doing so. They wanted to create this intimacy that never actually existed between the two leads. The point is that the writers should have incorporated some scenes prior to the first episode that explained why Do Guk was so enamored with Yi Joo. Do Guk was in love with Yi Joo like Se Hyeok was in love with Yoo Ra. Which actually means that both of them were in love with a fantasy because neither of them knew these women enough to be in love with them. We all saw what happened when Se Hyeok finally saw the real Yoo Ra. It wasn't pretty! It simply worked out well for Do Guk when it didn't for Se Hyeok. Go figure!

All in all, I wouldn't rewatch it. It was okay. It was nothing absolutely amazing, but it's something to watch when you're bored and you don't want to watch anything too dark and heavy. This is a lighthearted show that makes no sense at all when you truly examine it, but that's fine.

You will love to hate this? ;)

Actually no, you won’t hate this. :) It’s like the old-style kind of Kdramas, the kind I used to make fun of years ago lol.. It is quite additive watching this, so my suggestion is to binge- watch!

The storyline is pretty cliche, a typical revenge drama with a time travel twist. You have the evil stepmother and stepsister, and you will love to hate them. Somewhere in the middle your blood will start to boil watching each episode, but not to worry the good guys always win.

The chemistry between the main leads are pretty decent, and there is one really good kiss/ bed scene ;);) it’s a happy ending as well. So have a go at this and enjoy it :)

Revenge that was served, not quite so perfectly

The show really leaned into the FL’s “family” being trash - forced confinement, poisonings, murder for hire, verbal abuse etc. At times it was completely over the top as was the way in which the FL ended up being raised by them. Though this is a fictitious story, it was hard to suspend disbelief surrounding how she ended up in that household due to the extreme contrivances and coincidences.

Many of the characters in this were as dumb as a box of rocks. The FL was pretty dense to start, but thankfully she wised up after literally getting a new lease on life. But her ex fiancé was probably one of the stupidest characters I’ve seen in a while. He repeatedly made incredibly imbecilic decisions and was just…argh. It didn’t help that the actor in the role wasn’t that good. He only had two facial expressions, mindless stare into nothingness or mouth hanging open with a painful frown which I guess was supposed to convey shock and horror. He was awful.

The FL’s father was not only a horrible person, but he was pretty dense too considering he couldn’t see that his wife was a sociopath despite her repeatedly deceitful and abusive behaviors. The ML’s half brother also wasn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but in hindsight I found nothing about that character made any sense. He was in the story purely for plot.

The revenge plot was okay, but I’ve seen better. The setup and execution lacked punch because the audience was oftentimes completely in the dark about what the FL was planning to do and the story didn’t build. It just moved along at an even pace. As a result, when the villains were finally taken down it was anti-climatic. Moreover, after everything the FL went through, I didn’t think it was realistic that she’d ever forgive her father. He allowed her to be abused in his household for years and did nothing about it. In the end, he didn’t deserve to be in her life or to walk away virtually unscathed.

The love story was a little ridiculous, but what else is new. The ML fell in love with a painting by the FL. Watched her from afar which led to him falling deeply in love with her. It can’t get anymore preposterous than this. But…the leads had really good chemistry, which made me a believer in their love. I would’ve liked to have seen more push/pull in their relationship before they got together. More close moments in the house they shared and a little more to their “honeymoon” would’ve been nice too. Though the revenge plot was lackluster I will admit I had a good laugh when the dumb ex boyfriend marriage plans got ruined when the FL’s stepsister showed up on his doorstep 9 months pregnant, declaring him as the baby’s father. He fought so hard and did so many utterly dumb and despicable things to please her and be with her. He finally got the spoiled insufferable brat just when he thought he’d moved on from her to greener pastures. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person.

Overall, this was entertaining enough to see it through to the end, but it wasn’t as well executed as it could’ve been.

Should have dropped this after 2 episodes

Sorry for the fans, I finished this because the reviews were so great, but it felt like forever to go through only 12 Ep, and I still do not get the enthousiasm...
From my point of view, every character is one dimension, their relationship not even remotely believable, the scenario and dialogues are almost always so un-interesting that they have to go for the most over-the-top twist to hide that their storyline is actually quite thin with tons of plot holes...
If you are interested in revenge or time-travel stories, there are certainly much better dramas available... All in all, drama is a good candidate for the worst drama I have ever seen.

Revenge drama turned into soap opera

Another drama with a very strong start. At first I was hesitant whether the FL would be able to go from sweet to a strong lead to get her revenge but glad she did quite well.

The chemistry between was good but their screentime decreased and whenever they were shown they just talked about how they are there for each other and nothing more. Here I would say it was because the antagonists got a lot of screentime.

Its a very typical typical k-drama... like they were slapping each other and throwing drinks and all. The male lead`s family was something like I would expect to watch in a drama aired before 2015. And the female lead`s family simply came out of Cinderella`s story.

To be honest the revenge wasn`t satisfying at all and if you are following k-dramas from quite sometime I think you`ll be able to foresee almost all the twists.

Overall its better to watch the drama keeping in mind that its actually more like a melodrama rather than a revenge drama.

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' Perfect Marriage Revenge '' is a fantasy melodrama with a nice start.

The drama indeed starts off strongly, with the makjang vibes really rocking it, as the main female lead was being bitten down again and again by her evil adopted mother and her daughter. The love story that started to bloom was quite interesting as well.

And sure, there were some really idiotic things happening to the characters, but the melodrama allowed the story to be excused from them. The ending, however, and the episodes towards it, were all something that the makjang genre didn't support. The drama started focusing more on the romance, hence, it didn't have enough time to wrap up nicely the rest of the storylines. And, the fantasy element that was used in the first episodes and was forgotten in the middle ones, was brought out again, and wasn't handled smoothly, rather, it was quite rushedly concluded.

So, overall, four out of ten.

This was a wish fulfillment drama.

The story isn't all that compelling and it sure as hell isn't anything you haven't seen before EXCEPT for the fact that we came out the dugout winning and continued to. It was refreshing and entertaining to see our leads (especially our FL) fight back with as much venom as was thrown her way and not fail at every turn.

and after all the suffering that we've put ourselves through watching almost every FL get treated like a floor rag and being magnanimous in return, this drama provided us with the opportunity to watch and cheer one on as she got her pound of flesh back with impunity.

but even that lost its allure after a while and the feeling of satisfaction wasn't enough to carry such a basic script and subpar acting

(also, i truly believe that all the wardrobe funding went to the sister cause what were those outfits that man was in. he was dressed like someone's grandpa half the time and I 100% believe he'd never seen the inside of a fitting room)

The concept was very simplistic and has been done before, but the script writer was given simple tasty ingredients and managed to flesh out a script that avoided to many cliches, and stuck with the simple straightforward theme. The script avoided the biggest mistake that plagues a lot of writers, trying to put an overly realistic spin on the story and trying to be different. The classic are that for a reason nothing wrong with “tried, true and tested”.

The director did a good job of staying out off his own way and let the story flow naturally.

The actors overall did a nice job and avoided overacting which generally plagues Makjangs, making this one of the few off this genre I can watch.

Sets where okay, no great emphasis on production value, the wardrobe was good with minimal emphasis on costume design, everyone’s wardrobe reflected their character, which showed that thought and planning went into them.
The product placement was not over the top and intrusive like you see a lot of the time.

Pacing was good and crisp, no lagging.

1st and 2nd act were smooth like freshly churned butter in french country side boulangerie. And thank goodness there were not crazy breakups in the 3rd and we got revenge served with a great heaping helping off the warm and fuzzies.

I’ve rewatched twice already, enough said.
