I admit that I started this because the idea of having a bunch of idol-actors living together in a boarding house sounded incredibly amusing to me! The plot sounded kind of interesting but the main appeal for me was definitely the boarding house idea. That being said, I had no idea this was a sitcom when I started it and also had never seen a Korean sitcom before. So, yay for trying new things!

The story was actually really pleasant and fun to watch even though I didn't expect much out of it. Since it's a sitcom, the comedy is very in your face and over the top at times (most of the time) but I found it rather refreshing. I can only take so much of sad and intense dramas before I need a happy break. This drama is perfect for one of those happy breaks because even though some of the characters go through some difficulties, they are usually short-lived. The humor and comedy also keeps things from staying too serious for too long.

What really got me hooked was the characters in this and not just because I already liked some of the actors to begin with. The characters are really exaggerated at times for comedy purposes but the characters in general are actually pretty realistic. I'm not going to dissect all of the characters but their situations are all very relatable and for the most part believable. They're fun, silly, and sometimes dumb but it's all part of their charm! I found the majority of the characters very likeable and thought the actors portrayed their characters well! I honestly don't know how they were able to film most of the scenes without laughing hysterically. I salute them all!

Now, I do understand why someone would want to drop this. A lot of people seem to have a problem with the laugh track that they play during funny or embarrassing moments. I didn't like it at first but I didn't really mind it later on. I guess it just depends on your level of hate for laugh tracks or your ability to not pay attention to it. Also, I do think that you have to have a certain sense of humor in order to completely enjoy this. The story does have its more serious moments but for the most part it is consistently comedic and embarrassing. Yes, embarrassing. So, if you can't handle secondhand embarrassment, you'll most likely be watching quite a few scenes through your fingers. ;)

Overall, super fun, cute, and silly! It provides quite a few good laughs and has some really sweet moments. I recommend that people at least give it a try even if they're not completely sure if they'll like it. To those of you who want to watch it, happy watching! :)

Though idols brought me to the drama world, I admit that many -if not most- of their acting have proved a total failure. Just because they have a huge fan base, they get all the lead roles and high rates and give the audience hell. So I was not all excited at starting this but I thought trying a 12-episode series an episode per week won't hurt. I'm glad I did.

Though there's nothing extraordinary about the plot, the drama presented serious and deep issues in a comic way while making us feel the depth of them. Paternity, one-night stands, love, gender, friendship, fate, unemployment, plastic surgery, society's expectations, dreams, talents and the pressure of youth are all portrayed in the drama. The nuggets of wisdom at the end of each episode were so loaded but cute. Though I hate didactic messages, I thought they were to the point with no pressure. Being 24 myself, I related to the struggle of the guys.

The last episode was epic. And the last words of Kim Dong Joon were like a soothing breeze to my troubled heart.

The music was awesome here. The way they'd add classic songs to some ridiculous situations was so hilarious.

Kim Sa Eun was a pleasant surprise -I'm a Super Junior fan so I'm pretty biased to my band member's wife-.

Kim Dong Joon's dialect and terrible sense of humour made the drama for me.

For a light break after watching a sageuk or a melo; this drama would present a great solace.

I am usually not keen on watching sitcoms, as, to be very honest, Korean sitcoms are not that great and usually not that funny, yet this one was close to being absolutely perfect!
It was funny , yes, a lot of things were on the line or even over the line of being just simply lame, and reactions seemed over the top sometimes, but I think that in a way is the essence of good comedy along with plot that is not too complicated yet interesting. Here the plot was definitely interesting and the viewer could guess along, who the lost child of the Mr. Kim will be and laugh about the adventures that happen on the way.
The love lines were a bit of a mess at points and wen't very typical K-drama at one point in particular, but they all had a closure in the end. And the couples were very nicely put together and adorable in all ways, mostly thanks to the cast.
I would like to applaud JaeHwan (aka. Ken), DoHee and DongJun and other idol-actors here too, as they did a splendid job and I hope all of them will get more acting offers after this and we will, perhaps, see them in more serious projects some time soon!
Over all, the drama or more precisely sit-com was a great way how to relax and laugh after a long week and it was truly wonderful to see the character grow and change and the plot to evolve as well and actually make absolute sense in the end.
I do recommend this, if you want a good laugh and some nice time with your favorite idols being totally different from how you see them daily.

I’ve never attempted to watch a sitcom before but seeing that Jaehwan from Vixx (Ken) was in a drama, it was my duty as a Starlight to watch it! I was really nervous about watching this drama because sitcom isn't something that seemed like it would be my style, just like many romantic comedies aren’t really my thing either. However, I had seen a lot of gifs and photo sets of this drama, obviously from running my blog, and there seemed to be some really cute scenes so I just knew that I must watch it, even though I was scared at first…Jaehwan or not! The fact that this drama was filled to the brim with Idols was also another reason I was hesitant for this drama, though I know for a fact that DoHee can act, I still wasn't sure about the rest of the cast of youth. Everything about this drama seemed to make me nervous.

From body gags to laugh tracks a sitcom was exactly what I was expecting, something over the top and cheesy that really isn't my style. Boarding House 24 is full of those extreme jokes and gags that you would find yourself seeing on variety shows and gag concert, Korean humor which I get sometimes but the over the top stuff really isn't my style. This was far from anything I really was hoping for, and the acting as well wasn't the best. It kind of disappoints me through and through, HOWEVER, I did find myself extremely entertained by it at the same time. Though I wanted a more serious drama, I did find myself laughing at the twelve episode long sitcom. It was kind of refreshing watching something that wasn't all the serious for once, and it's strange how I actually found myself interested in it when this type of thing usually turns me off. I guess I just wanted to stick with it because I knew about some the cute things that were going to happen.

Overall, it's the type of show I can’t say I love or would enjoy watching several times over, but I don't regret the experience at all. Sitcoms are something new to me, and it's not really my taste and even though I really was disappointed with how over the top the show was, and how some of the jokes were rather lame, it made up for it with a lot of cuteness and some jokes that actually made me laugh. It was an experience and I can't dock it for that, it's a show that I think a lot of people would enjoy watching..it's just not my cup of tea. However, I did enjoy the 12 episodes as much as a person like me could, and I think it's defiantly worth giving a shot if you are mildly interested in it.

I started watching this for VIXX's Ken, but was surprised by how enjoyable the entire show was. I've generally had trouble finishing dramas for prolonged annoyance with any fillers/drawn-out plot lines, but this show was nicely short and easy to finish. It helps that the actual drama was a riot as well! Seriously funny as hell. I thought this would be more serious going into it (you know the whole "father lost his kid" plot) but I'm glad it turned out to be a comedy. I don't know, it made the story more bearable, and the times it was serious felt natural.

The acting was pretty amazing too. I don't have that keen of an eye for good acting, but I can definitely tell what bad acting is, and no one really entered that category. Bang In's actor sometimes overacted but I felt that it worked for his character and wasn't too distracting. Everyone else played their role well. The old man, Saeun, and Dohee were standout actors though.

Honestly I was surprised by how heartwarming this drama was? Episodes 8 and 9 made me cry. I came out of episode 8 feeling so good and wholesome. Again, it's because this drama doesn't take it seriously. The little messages at each episode come off as just good fun, and that's it. I agree with everyone else when they said the characters were the best part; everyone was so real and their struggles at the age of 24 (a central plot point) felt realistic and understandable. Saeun's character was my favorite and I was constantly waiting for more news on her backstory.

Also for all the K-pop fans, the constant idol jokes were much appreciated. I had a hearty laugh at the gimmick involving Hyunyoung (Rainbow). The music was all right I guess, I don't remember it. The casual promos for K-pop songs sung by the actors were funny when they showed up (VIXX was promoting Error at the time).

TL;DR: Great show that caught my attention because it didn't take itself seriously and ended up being wholesome and engaging as a result.

Fun sitcom

The first reason for watching this was because Ken was in it (I'm a Starlight). Knowing how funny of a guy he is, I wanted to see how he does in dramas. The second reason was the length and the number of episodes, a very reasonable one.

Well, the story is good enough and simple. I thought it was dragging a bit in the end. The last episode was way too rushed. Some moments were really funny, others were plain silly.

The acting was okay, just what you would expect from this kind of drama. I have to say I was really surprised of Dong Jun's acting. Hightop had some really funny expressions! Am I the only one who didn't feel at all the chemistry between Ken and Min Do Hee? Dong Jun had better chemistry with her.

The OST was quite forgettable, I don't remember any of the songs.

To be quite honest, I wouldn't rewatch it that much. There were some hilarious moments especially in the beginning but that was pretty much it.
