To be honest i started watching it due to ji chang wook and had no expectation due to negative rating but i loved it. Even though the plot was not making sense i loved it because characters were lovely, the feelings were beautiful and the ending was a bliss. I understood the writer, as the genre is fantasy he made the story that was including fantasy kinda love and the ending was also what every person would wish for.I long for such happy endings with such beautiful way of expressing oneselves. Ji chang wook portrayed his character as we as an audience would want him to watch in this particular story.

sweet romance and interesting plot...

Melting Me Softly is a romantic comedy about a variety show PD (Ji Chang Wook) and a part time worker (Won Jin Ah) at a broadcast station who are involved in a project where they are supposed to be frozen for 24 hours, but after something goes wrong, they instead wake up 20 years later.
Ji Chang Wook plays Ma Dong Chan.  He’s a star PD who is great at his job and likes taking risks. He quickly jumps at the chance to be a part of the Frozen Human Project, but he never could have guessed the experiment would go wrong and land him 20 years in the future.
Won Jin Ah is Go Mi Ran. Mi Ran is a struggling part time worker at Dong Chan’s broadcast station and is known for being willing to participate in crazy stunts. That’s how she ends up joining the experiment and having her life completely changed.

Melting Me Softly was such a fun drama for me. I got hooked quickly and really loved the first few episodes. They introduced the story well with the interesting concept of people being frozen and waking up 20 years later. I liked how they told the initial story while mixing scenes from the “present” 1999 time line combined with flashbacks leading up to the frozen project. It connected me with the characters, their situations, and their relationship dynamics.
We briefly see what happened right after they were frozen and then we jump 20 years into the future to 2019. The drama did excellent at showing how disorienting it was for Dong Chan and Mi Ran to find themselves in the future as well as their families reactions to the situation. It was jam-packed with feels as we see everyone reunite and try to adjust to everything. I was thoroughly pleased with how it was all handled.

The drama leans heavily towards the romantic comedy side with a dash of sci-fi surrounding the frozen experiment. The comedy is quite silly, and I would compare it to another drama from this writer, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.
It worked for me, and I actually found Melting Me Softly quite funny. Any drama that has a time travel type concept is primed for fun regarding adjusting to the future. I was happy that this drama spent a few episodes showing the humor around that.

About a third of the way through the drama, we really get the romance starting to take shape. I liked seeing Dong Chan and Mi Ran develop feelings for each other. They were in a very unique situation that only the two of them could understand. They also have to contend with a side effect of them being frozen…they have to keep their body temperatures lower than normal or they could die. It makes for some dramatic situations where their lives are at stake.
For those considering watching this one, expectations are key. It’s a rom-com with a side of sci-fi. It’s meant to be silly and fun with a sci-fi story that is on the fantastical side. Not everything makes logical sense, but I wouldn’t expect it to with this type drama.
It’s not meant to be over-analyzed as there is a basic problem to solve regarding our couple being frozen and a straight forward villain looking to cause trouble. This part of the story isn’t particularly hard hitting, but it adds in a nice back drop for the romance and the comedy.

This was one of those times where I was really surprised to see how many people really disliked this drama and thought the story was bad and boring. It felt like I had watched a different drama. That wasn’t my experience at all as I thought the story progressed nicely from the set up, to our characters adjusting to their new lives, to the sci-fi mystery, and then turning into a wonderful romance.
Just remember, this is meant to be fun and not super serious. And there were other people like me who really enjoyed this drama, so I would recommend at least giving it a try to see if the style works for you.
There are also a good amount of cute couple moments with them being very adorable. I loved watching them develop feelings and how protective they were towards each other. This couple faced quite a few challenges, sometimes with their lives at stake, and they were always there for one another.

Melting Me Softly was just a wonderful watch. The sci-fi concept was interesting, and I loved all of the characters who made me laugh quite a lot. I also thoroughly enjoyed the sweet romance that blossomed into such a caring and nurturing relationship.

Not That Bad

The concept of this drama reminded me of the Hollywood movie Passengers. After watching back-to-back three Ji Chang Wook mystery & thriller dramas, finally watched something light-headed.

Ma Dong Chan is a popular director who loves to do experimental projects for his variety shows. He is bossy, does whatever his heart tells him to do. I loved Ji Chang Wook entry scene & also his walk while dusting his clothes & hair. He looks so cute as well as sexy in those shots.

Ko Mi Ran is a student who does part-time work in Ma Dong Chan experimental shows. She is bold, brave, badass, hot-tempered. I loved her character. She was not annoying to me. When I saw Won Jin Ah I thought her character would be an innocent girl, naive, but she played the opposite character.

Ko Mi Ran ex-boyfriend Hwang Byung Shim. At first, I found him hilarious, but after some time, he start getting into my nerve. He was damn annoying.

Loved Ko Mi Ran & Hwang Byung Shim clashing scene & also their police station fight.

Na Ha Young says she loves Ma Dong Chan, but she did nothing when he was frozen, just expected a promotion. Even after he was back, she pushed him away when he wanted to get back together. When he moved on, she wanted to get together with him & got rejected. She blames him for rejecting her because of her age.

Everyone's reaction after seeing Ma Dong Chan & Ko Mi Ran so young ???

Ko Mi Ran praising another man in front of Ma Dong Chan & kept telling him it's not you was hilarious.

Ma Dong Chan & the punk's hair pulling reminded me of Suspicious Partner.

Loved the scene between Ma Dong Chan & his siblings. It was touching.

I liked the part where Ma Dong Chan was always concerned about her health. Giving her his injection.

Ufff Ma Dong Chan & Ko Mi Ran shower scene. ?????

Love Professor Hwang & Go Nam Tae cute relationship.

Ma Dong Chan & his family's emotional scenes. Also, what he did for Ko Mi Ran parents was also touching ??

Loved Ma Dong Chan & Son Hyun Ki competitive relationship.

I'm also like Ko Mi Ran, I would also like my boyfriend to meet my younger brother first.

Ma Dong Chan expression when his younger siblings started giving him advice about life. Poor Ma Dong Chan getting roasted by his family for being unemployed.

The drama is not so bad. If you're fans of leads, you should give it a try. Or if you like rom-coms & can tolerate cringy stuff, then give it a try. There is also a little bit of suspense but not much.

Choices were made that let me down

I'm kinda shocked at the low ratings here. I decided to post my take to help set expectations. If you are unsure to watch it or not I say watch it. The shower scene alone is worth anything else this drama throws at you. Chanwook can seriously make you swoon. Both leads were likeable and had cute banter. I wish I spoke Korean in order to catch the subtleties in the dialogue. Kilig moments for sure. I can forgive any plot holes, annoying family characters, and the many interrupted skinship moments. What I keep thinking about is the last 1/2 hour or so. What were the writers (I assume) thinking? All the yearning to be together FINALLY able to move on with their lives and they make FL a bit cold, no pun intended. She wants to go *spoiler* abroad! Seemingly with or without her soulmate. ML stayed true to her for 3 years until she was "free" and this is not how you close up an adorable love story. This is how you tick people off. Is there a happy ending, yes, could it have been sweeter, absolutely. My heart still feels bad for ML even after the show ended. And how about an end kiss sometime after the beepers are gone so we see them as a couple again. Sheesh, I could go on about this ending but I will end it here. I would love other people's takes on it. It's been days since I finished it and I'm still irritated, lol

not really a disappointment as what people said

first of all, i admit i only watch this drama because of changwook and bomin (& jinyoung though he only made cameo appearance, also because he promoted it on his ig)

I really can't relate to people who found this drama boring and calls it a disappointment, BLAME YOURSELF FOR HAVING SUCH HIGH EXPECTATION. Well, in my opinion i found this drama fun and at least way better than w3sk. The storyline is simple, nothing complicated and if you're finding typical grown-up sci-fi with love story drama, this might be suitable for you.
Also, one of the reason I probably enjoyed this drama because i liked how they add the sci-fi element.
There's something missing about this drama but i cannot point out what it is. Maybe because it doesn't have unexpected plot twist or any wow factor? Really, a simple drama.

I do skipped some unnecessary scenes but MOST IMPORTANTLY, at least the message in each episode reached to me. There were scenes that warmed my heart, a bit of slice of life too. People saying it's a rom-com but the comedy isn't really there, well you cannot expect watching a rom-com drama and laughs all the time, and with all honesty i did laugh a lot while watching this drama, it depends on individual. I really enjoyed it :)

The casts all did great in playing their characters, I liked the main casts chemistry with each other too though it's not the best i've seen but it is not awkward at all and that is enough for me. I have nothing much to say about the casts because i believe they've casted the best actors, my rating already said it all ;)

none of the osts catch my ears, maybe 2 or 3 but that is okay as long as we enjoyed the drama.
And for the rewatch value, though i said it is not a bad drama, i won't spend my time to watch this drama again. Again, just a good drama ;)

Ji Chang Wook is a megastar in South Korea, beloved by many fans and rightfully deserving of fan admiration because of his great talent on screen. The downside to being so immensely successful in many consecutive projects such as "Healer", "K2", "Suspicious Partner"..... is that you begin to expect that everything that this actor will be involved in will be "blockbuster" in nature. And so my expectations going into this drama were extremely high and hopeful for another "award-winning" "knock-it-out-of-the-park" "sweep-my-heart-away" production. Unfortunately, this drama was marred with an overload of poorly written comedy which failed miserably at being humorous or entertaining. There were too many characters in this drama that were just too juvenile, cartoonish, and moronic which caused the intended humor within the drama to fall flat and become clownish and absurd. Most importantly, in my opinion, farcical humor is counter-productive in establishing an appropriate context for a serious and great romance.

At the halfway point of this drama I had hope that a turning point had occurred. I felt that in episodes 8 & 9 their chemistry began to ignite, the romance burners were turned on, and they began to heat up the screen quickly--- their affection for each other begin to feel real. The back-against-the-wall-kiss that led to the shower scene in episode 10 will go down in K-Drama history as a HALLMARK act of romance that has not been seen before on the K-Drama landscape. Even with their clothes on, it was a RED-HOT & STEAMY scene!!!!!????. It certainly led one's imagination to other things which is why the scene was so, so, sensual. Episode 10 will go down in the K-Drama history books and fans will talk about that scene for years to come.

It is a shame that the writer of this drama could not have capitalized on the momentum that was building in episodes 8--10. It looked more than promising, but then the drama began to regress and struggle again and although the last episode was fairly well written, it seemed out of place and disjointed with the previous material. "Melting Me Softly" is simply my least favorite drama in Ji Chang Wook's body of work. I would not watch this drama again and I could not in good conscience recommend that anyone invest 16 hours of their time to watch something that was so sub-par in substance and painful to endure.

I hope the best for Ji Chang Wook and Won Jin Ah in the future and hope they will get better material and have another chance to show the world just how good they really are. Unfortunately, this drama did not give them the opportunity to really shine as the bright and talented stars that they are.

Softly indeed.

I can definitely understand why people would dislike this Drama. For one is is a very slow story, even boring at times. I honestly wish I'd known about x2 speed while watching it ? But despite that I'd still recommend watching it at least once. There is good things about it.

The acting is on par, Ji Chang Wook never disappoints me in that part. His character to me is very likable as well. Won Ji Ah also did a very good job with the role she was given. And their love and Chemistry is beautiful, I thought. I think that's the part that holds the story together. They just move the rest of the story at snail pace and take forever to get to the love.

I like the concept of the story and there was some really funny parts too. Especially the MLS brother haha.

This is a JCW drama, for crying out loud!!!

I honestly don't understand the hate on this kdrama. I was actually pretty happy after finishing this. YES, the story's dragging BUT it is interesting. YES, the leads don't have the same level of chemistry as Ji Chang Wook had with his other FLs (this is not Nam Ji hyun level chemistry) BUT it is workable, they still made me feel all the feels.

The story progressed slowly, showing Ma Dong Chan and Ko Mi Ran's lives before entering the capsule -- Mi Ran's struggles to keep her family afloat, her love for Nam Tae, her friendship with Kyung Ja and Young Sun, her weird and creepy relationship with Byung Sim and Dong Chan's struggles to always do something that no one has ever done-- all leading to that fateful day of being freezed together and not being thawed after 24 hours. The episodes following their thawing were sort of annoying but in a funny way. I would've loved to see the both of them struggle to fit in the modern world, but that quickly became a thing of the past once they decided to use those touch screen phones.

Their love story progressed slowly, too. The moment Dong Chan met Ha Young's eyes after being thawed, I just know that there's no going back for the both of them. That strong feeling of being responsible for Mi Ran might be one of the reasons why Dong Chan fell in love with her... but I saw those twinkling eyes as he was observing Mi Ran laugh with Ji Hoon that afternoon, oh boy, he's smitten. I really love Chang Wook's eyes -- smoldering and will make you feel like drowning then he will be the one saving you as he slowly kisses you... aaaahhhh, Wookie. you will be the death of me. I replayed that shower scene 3x as it is waaaaay too hot to handle (nothing's hotter though than that surf shed kiss with Ji Won or the basket kiss with Ji Hyun but those are a different story!)

The ending --- DID NOT FEEL WEIRD AT ALL. Dong Chan talked about starting a YouTube channel before Mi Ran's re-freezing, he even started it but didn't have the guts to continue it after Mi Ran's accident. So I don't understand how people can say that the ending was not satisfying. IT WAS! Mi Ran wanted to study, wanted to chase her dreams / Dong Chan needed a change of scenery to finally pursue doing that vlogging -- that's the most natural thing to do. Dong Chan going with Mi Ran as Mi Ran chases her dreams as he does what he thinks will make him happy too.

So yes, give this a chance. It might not be as good as all the other JCW dramas but it still makes your heart flutter regardless.

Waste of Ji Chang Wook's time

Never in a million years did I think that I could be disappointed with Ji Chang Wook's appearance, but what a waste of talent. Felt he just dialed it in—and with a script like this, can understand why.

Great premise, but bad script. No character development. Useless characters throughout the film combined with pointless slapstick. Bumbling direction. Even the costumes were off. All of this could have been helped if there wasn't the small problem of zero chemistry between leads. ZERO. Like watching a shoe paired with a fork.

If I was JCW, I would get a better agent pronto. With his talent, he should be working towards roles with greater range and depth. This is K-drama junk food with empty calories and the flavor of a stale marshmallow.

Their chemistry is perfect, and they're both good looking, perfect for each other, and oh my goodness, Ji Chang Wook keep getting more and more handsome and hotttttt!!!!! I decided I will be a fan of Ji Chang Wook and watch all his dramas. And in the future , these two main leads should work together again, really digging their chemistry! I also liked the chemistry between all the characters. Oh and this drama is hilarious, half of the time, I'm holding onto my stomach laughing hard. At first, I wasn't sure if the female lead was pretty, but as I watched and watched, she started to look really pretty and you could tell that she had a unique personality, one of a kind. I really really wish they would star together again in a drama in the future.

I have been watched kdrama since autumn 2017! My first drama that I ever watched it was in winter 2017 is called Entertainer ,,ttanttara’’ but it was completed already. My first drama that I’ve watched and it was ongoing it was Melo Holic. And that’s how I started to watch korean drama. Before to watch korean drama there were a Spanish drama that my friend watched and it was about a person that was frozen in a capsule and so on... when I strayed to watch korean drama I’ve always wanted to be a korean drama like that (By the way if you’re interested it’s called Aurora, I haven’t watched but I only know it’s spoiler) anyway... so I wanted a story about that so look there it is. I love this drama so much. I don’t really about what the others think but I really love it. I highly recommend this. The support rules was so funny and comic! Both actors that played NamTae was perfect act and really as a sick person! I love this drama so much.
It had various of feelings from sad to supper funny! WATCH IT! If someone doesn’t like it doesn’t mean you won’t like as well! Don’t read only reviews and make a conclusion just watch it. Thats a korean drama, different, way to different from other countries drama so maybe other doesn’t like this kind of dramas.
About the cast what to say!? It’s amazing. Won Jin Ah and Ji Chang Wook is one of my favorite actors!
Sadly it ended. Every Saturday and Sunday will be empty! This week is weird, I used to wait for the next episode but now not anymore. This Saturday and Sunday will the first without any episode but it’s fine. I will rewatch it more and more

Best thing about this is that it was placed im the past but yet it didn't felt like that. The year was my birth year that's why maybe I kinda pre judged it?? the characters were so cheerful that I kinda relate it to me. Ji chang wook becomes another Korean crush for me that I immediately searched him on insta and there I kinda connect with him. The comic timing were not upto the mark but yet it convincingly holds the audience. The relationship was shown with so much intensive feeling that sometimes it feels to be faked?. But at last I felt satisfied with the conclusion of how they manages their lives.??
