*sips tea* It's a good drama indeed.

ROMANCE VALUE 6.5
Rewatch value is less because once you know what's going on there's nothing left in this drama to see again.

I’m here to drop a review. For you all. Not to tell you if I hate it or not. And believe me, I know you don’t care If I like it or not. So I’ll just write what needs to be written.
So,
I always wait till the whole drama is finished so that I can finish it in one night but this one really made me wait for the next episode.
There is no side lead romance going on for you to skip. Even though they got together after a lot of episodes, the chemistry was still good and mature enough [before they got in a relationship] to satisfy a person like me who only watches romance dramas.
You won’t skip any scene. You might get bored in some of her makeup shots but they end pretty quick and the scene shifts to something else, something good, different. This drama can get a bit boring in the end after the mystery gets solved but you don’t have to worry there’s always a lot to see.
[Romance value is less because 1. They got together so late. 2. There’s a lot to fit in 30 episodes. 3. It’s a time-travel/ sci-fi drama not a rom-com. 4. Even after they got together, there was a lot on their plate. 5. Even after getting in a relationship, their interactions were pretty much the same. (As they were busy with their stuff)

FL: Jiang Xiaoyuan. Smart & Strong, Hard working & mature, Growing & glowing. INDEPENDENT!
She was growing slowly in this drama. Half of the episodes in the beginning were set up in the workplace but there is seriously nothing to worry about. These work scenes only focus on Jiang Xiaoyuan learning and coping with a whole new environment going through a lot of emotions but still staying strong to keep you hooked. She had nothing in the starting, but still kept her high self esteem and respect. Not giving us second hand embarrassment. She was pretty even while crying. Mature to talk everything out and to say all of her thoughts on the face. And there’s no downfall I swear. Once she starts going up, she doesn’t fall back. She knows what to do, and what she’s doing.

ML: Qi Lian. “Where’s ‘my’ Jiang Xiaoyuan?” “I have to unfold the truth.”
Mature, Loving, understanding, smart, rich, kind to friends, can fight. Independent.
Qi Lian, don’t expect much romance from him. He wasn’t like the hot CEO, or genius student, or anything that exists in other dramas. His job here was to protect Jiang Xiaoyuan. He was in love but was busy solving the mystery because it was necessary of course (He did kiss and hug. ;). His good looks did a great job here. He was understanding and matured to talk out any conflict.

Acting: was on point. So real. So satisfying that I also cried. Side leads did a great job, especially Jiang Bo and Li Li.
Hope it was helpful. And if as a drama friend sharing mutual interest, I personally would recommend you this series. Go for it.

Never thought this one will be 10/10

I came across this drama on YouTube shorts and decided to give it a try. It's not for everyone; you really need to pay attention to understand everything, or you'll get lost. Initially, I was lost too, but after watching it four times, I fell in love with it. The acting is excellent, and as a big music fan, I was delighted by the beautiful OSTs. Surprisingly, it's one of the few dramas that I've rated 10/10 in my two years of drama-watching. If you enjoy slow-burn romance with a deep emotional connection and a simple yet intricate plot, this drama is definitely worth checking out.

How different would the same person be if they came from opposite backgrounds?

Derailment is 25% sci-fi and 75% slice of life. Many viewers go into this expecting a thrilling sci-fi experience with many twists and turns and they get that but in small doses. They're so thrilling that it appears separate from the rest of the drama which is a lot more workplace oriented. The focus is on Xiaoyuan adjusting from riches to rags. The mundane parts are where she develops which is also where viewers find it to be dragging. People's disappointment makes sense when the selling point of this drama is the premise of parallel universes. When going into this, viewers should expect a drama that hones in on different genres and to keep in mind that Xiaoyuan is the focus.

Story:

We follow the luxurious life of Xiaoyuan in the first universe. She's rich, popular, and has a sense of superiority that soon bites her. She wakes up in a parallel universe where she has nothing but a mysterious phone that traversed space with her. She meets Qi Lian, a wealthy guy she has never met before, who knows that universe's Xiaoyuan. Qi Lian is looking for a missing person who's only trace is an identical phone to Xiaoyuan's. Xiaoyuan learns the way of the world through hairdressing and later makeup, meeting many derailments in her pursuits. They both work together to solve the mystery of Xiaoyuan's entry into another universe and what happened to the second universe's Xiaoyuan in the hopes of setting things right and finding Qi Lian’s best friend.

The story is character driven, specifically focusing on the development of Xiaoyuan. It's well-written but the hairdressing arc could have been condensed for a more concise storyline. The amount of time we spend on hairdressing is not equal to its importance down the line plot wise. Most of Xiaoyuan's development happens in the hairdressing arc and should have been spanned alongside the plot in the makeup arc as it had more significance. This drama could've been cut down to 24 episodes, perhaps even less than that.

Characters:

Xiaoyuan is the product of her environment. Stubborn, self-centered, arrogant… She was born rich with those closest to her catering to her. She doesn't consider other people's feelings and self-righteously forsakes rules for what she believes is right and expects others to put up with it. How can she grow if no one tells her what she's doing wrong? And that is where the second universe comes in where she must start from nothing and endure many hardships to learn humility, resilience, true happiness, and to cherish what matters.

Qi Lian has an unhealthy obsession with finding Xu Jingyang, his best friend who disappeared. He's so obsessed with his goal that he struggles to see past it. For viewers discretion, I believe there should be a warning that Qi Lian became abusive to Xiaoyuan for a couple episodes which almost made me drop it. He is the ML, not an antagonist, so something like that is breaching his role for me. I did forgive this since this was a part of his development and he does develop and make up for his mistakes.

All the side characters were very likable, especially Fang Zhou and Jiang Bo. You can feel the love they put into writing these characters.

The parallels and differences between the two Xiaoyuans with opposing backgrounds was very interesting to me, especially with the biggest plot twist.

Romance:

The romance is a rocky ride. It's slow with many bumps and isn't the main focus. I felt iffy about them getting together after how Qi Lian abused her, but it was ultimately an okay romance. However, if I had it my way, I would have preferred that the romance be between Xiaoyuan and Jiang Bo. It's illogical since it wouldn't work plot wise, but his relationship with Xiaoyuan was more entertaining, equal, and didn’t cross any moral lines.

Overall:

If you're looking for a sci-fi focused drama, concise plot, and a respectable romance throughout, Derailment isn't for you. If you're looking for a drama that's slice of life, workplace oriented, has lovable side characters, a well-developed FL, great OST, an okay romance, and comes in small doses of the thrilling, plot twisty sci-fi premise, then this drama is it.

Don't hesitate to watch this drama!

Derailment was promoted as a fantasy, mistery, romance genre but turns out It's more of a HEALING drama, the way I feel all their pains & then cherish their every touching moments... ?
I really love all their relationship, Qi Lian, Jiang Xiao Yuan, Xu Jin Yang, Jiang Bo ?❤️

What I love from Derailment is the fact that Qi Lian & Xiao Yuan's relationship has no thirdwheel, the problem is not some kind of 'stupid misunderstanding', but more of building trust, overcome mental matters, & reunite stronger than ever!

What I wish they could do with this drama:
✅️ Decrease Xiaoyuan's work story & change to their sweet flashback story instead (it deserves at least 7 episodes, not 2-3 only)
✅️ Add more mistery & thriller elements (u will know it's that good when u see Huo Boyu!)
✅️ Reveal the last plot twist for the last 2 ep to keep the excitement
✅️ Make a plot twist at the last episode, but I wish it will still a clear HE just like now!

But whatever the minus from this drama is, I still think that the rating is still too low for the drama,, Be real now, there are soooo many worse boring drama get better rating I'm in pain seeing the rating!

Positive things about this drama:
✅️ Quite many plot twist
✅️ Thriller scenes are quite good too (Huo BoYu acting is superb!)
✅️ Slowburn romance but so many memorable sweet romance scenes
✅️ Excellent FL acting, I mean, very very very excellent!

All of this reason is enough to enjoy this drama to it's fullest, so don't hesitate watching this drama without thinking too much about other opinions...!

I will personally add tags for the genre: #sliceoflife #healingdrama

Do yourself a favor and Skip this

I loved the synopsis, I mean, time travel, alternate universes... that's what I signed up for and it started so well...

1. It could have been wrapped up in 10 episodes
2. There is ZERO time travel
3. The story is way too complex for what could have been a great Rom-Com
4. What's with the hair/makeup? how does this fit in?

It's too bad because I liked the start, the actors were good but the story lost me, and the ending was also a letdown.

Very disappointed having invested 22+ hours into this mess

The chemistry between the leads is chemistry-ing!

If you're leaning towards great chemistry in choosing a drama to watch, you should give this a try!

Most of the time, I discover dramas because of a fan edit in social media and this is one of them. No doubt, the main leads have great chemistry! ? I would also like to commend how they portrayed their roles. This is not your usual romantic drama with many skinship and kissing scenes but the two of them managed to deliver intense chemistry on this show. It's my first time watching both of them, they are really promising actors. I hope they blossom more and take different genres in the future. But then I hope they could also reunite someday ❤️

Overall, Derailment is a good drama tapping a different genre than usual. I just think they should've focused more on the scifi aspect because the first part of the drama is really interesting. I also liked how they focused on Jiang Xiaoyuan's character growth eventually. Rewatch value is just fair but this is still on my fave cdrama list!

show could have been good/great but it was a chore for me to get through the last 10 episodes.

Mainly because (personal opinion) for me... the ML was either a jerk/selfishly did stuff or he literally held 0 emotions... like his face just looked confused? 99.9% of the time. Also... for a high-octane thriller/gotta-figure-it-out-before-we-die type of drama... it felt oddly boring for 75% of the drama... by episode 20, I was over it and the plot just drug along with only...

(((SPOILERS BELOW)))
.
.
.
.
.
"will she excel at makeup" and "will the microchip kill her before the ml decides to finally tell her what she needs to know or not?" and those two plot threads were NOT interesting enough to keep me watching for 10 more episodes... I held out and pushed through but the end was as mediocre as it was anticlimactic.

Derailed, that's exactly how I feel.

Derailment means going off route, going into an unexpected development. The title for this drama is so appropriate because this was not what I had signed up for. I love time travel and parallel worlds drama so reading the drama description I knew I had to watch this. Halfway through the drama it was still about a rich girl who somehow found herself in a parallel world where she was poor and a guy who loved the poor girl and was trying to send the rich girl to her world so he can get the poor girl back. And then the big reveal happened and everything just turned out to be a lie. Too bad that by this time I already loved the FL, who remained strong and sassy despite losing her riches, and I just want to know what happens to her. Also the dramamakers still made it interesting enough which stopped me from dropping the drama.

All I can say is that if you just want a time travel story, look somewhere else but if you want a good story then check this out.

Time-travel drama with a suspenseful plot, but too draggy and repetitive that I lost interest

Derailment is a romance, time-traveling drama involving killing people to shake the life gaming system.

The Synopsis: Do you believe that countless parallel universes exist that are exactly like the world you live in?

Jiang Xiao Yuan struggles with her identity as she travels across parallel universes that never seem to intersect. In her original world, she is an invincible, wealthy daughter. Still, she becomes an ordinary working girl with absolutely nothing in another place. Along the way, she meets the mysterious Qi Lian, and together, they search for the truth involving the mystery surrounding her. Stripped of wealth, family background, appearance, and education, Jiang Xiao Yuan sets herself on a journey to find pieces of her "real" identity.

I am giving this drama a 6.0 rating for the following reasons:
1. Lin Yi plays different roles. He played a nice but also ruthless character.
2. The FL acted well as a newcomer to the entertainment industry. This is her first drama, but she has acted in various movies since 2020. She is young and has good potential.
3. The story started interesting but spiraled into repetitiveness and confusion, with too many minor characters to drag the drama longer. I lost interest along the way between episodes 15 to the end.
4. I ended up skipping an FF with 1.5 to 2.0 speeds.
5. The acting is good, and it could have been better if it cut to 20 or 24 episodes.

I would not recommend this drama, but if you are interested in time-traveling with some suspension, You may want to check it out.

Novel adaptation that is so great idk what to say

Usually I am not attracted to this kind of genre (time travel, scifi) because I do not want to be sucked into overcomplicated plot, but derailment managed to make it not only enjoyable, but also one heck of a ride.

Decisions of every characters were all humane and logical. Plot is progressing perfectly the first 20 episodes pocketed, not even a single thing being dragged. But the rest... I find them boring so I skipped most of it. As expected with this kind of genre, there are parts where the narrator was unreliable and there are a lot of red herring, but that's the beauty of scifi genre. We dont know who to trust.

The acting of the main leads are all very commendable as well. Lin Yi really embodies the perfect dark-outside-but-sweet-inside gentleman with his microexpressions and subtle gesture. I would say the screenwriter has certain moodboard and idea dedicated to his character here! Liu Haocun also steals the spotlight, it seems like she could turn on and off of her tearduct in a blink of an eye. She is a pretty crier, i want to comfort her when she cry.

A little confusing

It seemed as if everything made sense in the beginning but as I watched more it began getting confusing for me I couldn't catch up. I dropped it for a while and only finally came back to finish it. I would say this drama has a pretty interesting plot twist after passing through the confusing parts. I did not expect the plot twist tbh I was really confused at first but understood after FL finally accepted her life and ML finding out things he never expected.

Time travel again, but wait, the intrigues and mysteries here would fix you seated at your screen

I thought it was an exaggeration when I read someone reviewed this drama saying, “Who cares about sleep when Derailment exists” and I agree. It was a solid of everything to my standards of a strong drama that I possibly could enjoy. The writer was cunning in a good way to manipulate the complexities without ruining the structure of the story. Each episode would keep you wondering and no trail of clues was present to even answer your question in mind. As a result, it was killing your curiosity, and wanted to watch more to the extent of sacrificing your sleep. Yup, I know that’s living a poor health lifestyle but come on, we do all come to terms with that sometimes. Anyway, that was how effective this drama was in affecting its viewers.

From the time I saw Lin Yi in “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” and here, I could see his acting has matured and it was recognized obviously with proofs of a couple of projects lined up for him. Liu Hao Cun, playing the FL, in the same way, emerged and matched up strong acting with him. I could tell their chemistry was not picture perfect but it did do magic to the persuasion of the story and to the characters they were playing who were always on the opposing ends.

This was an adaptation and I don’t have any knowledge about the original since I didn’t search further. Whether this drama was a complete version of that or revisions has been made, I really can’t make a validated comparison. One thing I’m sure about was I enjoyed the results of their efforts to take this drama to its limit of etching a lasting value, something that would linger in your memory when a similar subject about time travel comes into discussion which in this case it was a staged time travel as part of a brain science experiment.

I deducted a point from my initial rating of 10 because the last two episodes failed to sustain the power chain of this drama. Despite that, I still highly recommend it for you not to miss it.
