These are the notes I wrote down, and some theories I have as of episodes 1 and 2.

  • NakYeon = Nak Su + Bu Yeon (I personally prefer this one; and it makes sense because Bu Yeon's soul is gone, there is only Nak Su.)
  • BuSu = Bu Yeon + Nak Su (more appropriate in Part 1 when Bu Yeon was still practically in control; and Part 1 was about her personal mission)

General information:

  • (ep01) 3 years passed
  • Jang Uk
    • (ep01) Confirmed to have died
    • (ep01) Only alive because of the ice stone
    • (ep01) Possibly same status as a soul shifter (because of the power of the ice stone)
    • (ep01) Reached Hwansu because of the ice stone
  • (ep01) Jin clan shut themselves off

Part 1 theories confirmed in Part 2:

  • (ep02) Nak Su's soul was trapped into Bu Yeon's body
  • (ep02) It was not Nak Su's Alchemy of Souls spell (Part 1: ep01) which transferred her soul into Bu Yeon's body
    • (Theory) Bu Yeon was the one who trapped Nak Su's soul into her body, so she can use Nak Su to complete her personal mission (the entire plot of Part 1)
  • (ep02) Bu Yeon's divine power and Nak Su's immense energy did cancel each other
  • (ep02) Bu Yeon's soul stayed in her own body because she used Nak Su's energy as her anchor
  • (ep02) Nak Su's soul was not rejected by Bu Yeon's body (i.e. petrification) because Bu Yeon used her divine power to block the process
  • (ep02) Bu Yeon and Nak Su's souls were both inside one body

Part 2 NakYeon situation:

  • (ep02) Jin Mama found their shared body in the lake, petrified
  • (ep02) Master Lee said, it was the first time he saw a petrified body that was still alive
  • (ep02) The petrification can be reversed in two ways:
    1. Remove Nak Su's soul
      • Side effect: Bu Yeon will still die because she won't have enough energy to sustain the body
    2. Remove Bu Yeon's soul
      • Side effects:
        • The body's face will transform into Nak Su's face
        • The divine power will not be usable; as well as Nak Su's immense energy. This is slightly different from Part 1. (More on this later.)
        • With Nak Su's energy locked, she won't have her memories either.
  • (ep02) The body's divine power and Nak Su's immense energy are tied together in a very delicate balance.
    • Part 1: The opposing powers can be stronger than the other because both souls are inside the body. Bu Yeon's soul was practically the “regulator” of the body's divine power (Nak Su doesn't know how to use it; she's not even aware there are two souls in the body).
      • Bu Yeon kept the body's divine power at bay, so Nak Su can have control of the body (and can see).
      • Bu Yeon increases the body's divine power to overpower Nak Su's immense energy, when she needs to take over the body; or to control artefacts and relics.
    • Part 2: Without Bu Yeon's soul
      • There is no valve to control the body's divine power. Nak Su's immense energy can be easily overpowered.
      • If the body's divine energy gets stronger and restored, it will give the body the power it needs to reject the parasite soul. Which means, petrification.
        • (Theory) This could explain why a parasite soul needs to absorb energies, to keep itself stronger than the body.
        • Since the body's divine power is far stronger than Nak Su's immense energy, without Bu Yeon's help, she'll be petrified.
      • (Theory) If Nak Su can learn to harmonise and control the body's divine power, then she can survive tapping on both powers.
    • (Theory) If Nak Su possessed a weaker body, there is a possibility she can stay indefinitely. She probably won't need to absorb energies because her own energy won't be depleted; possibly similar in Master Lee's case.
    • Because the two powers are tied closely together, it will be very hard to tell which power is being “used” or “unlocked”.
      • If NakYeon uses the body's divine power, quite possibly, it will have an equal effect in Nak Su's energy being released (and potential memories).
      • Or, if NakYeon uses Nak Su's energy, or regain memories, it would have an equal effect in the body's divine power getting stronger.
      • Since the body's divine power is stronger than Nak Su's immense energy, sooner or later, she will be overpowered. Assuming, of course, 10% body's divine power = 10% Nak Su's energy.
        • If she can somehow keep it, say, 5% body's divine power per 15% of Nak Su's energy, she can probably maintain the delicate balance.
  • (ep01) She can see the ice stone
  • (ep02) She can still see energies (proof that it is Bu Yeon's body)
  • (ep01) She can see (proof it is Nak Su's soul and energy inside the body)
  • (ep02) She has a heightened sense of smell (this one is new)
  • (ep02) (Theory) NakYeon's intense emotions; or desire/will; is possibly the one which is releasing the body's divine power and Nak Su's energy.

That's it for the premiere week!

Bu-Yeon didn’t have any personal mission and the catalyst of them ending up together was still Naksu’s aos ritual. That it happened like it did was due to Bu-Yeon’s priestess body - it trapped Naksu’s energy, but it was still Naksu that was in the forefront most of the times. Bu-Yeon’s powers just occasionally shined through.

But again, it was Naksu who had a personal mission, Bu-Yeon was and will remain an unknown character now. Her soul died now. Now it’s only her body that is left, that took shape of Naksu’s soul so that there will be harmony and she would no longer be a soul shifter.

 Aramintai:
-Yeon didn’t have any personal mission

It was explained in the final episodes of Part 1. Her objective is to retrieve the ice stone. She even talked to Nak Su's soul about it.

 Aramintai:

I never claimed it was not “the catalyst”. But, as Part 2 explained, it was not Nak Su's AoS spell that caused her soul to transfer in Bu Yeon's body. In fact, in Part 1 episode 1, this was very clear, Nak Su's target was some random girl, not the blind woman she bumped into.

 Aramintai:
Bu-Yeon’s powers just occasionally shined through.

Part 1 made it clear, Bu Yeon was in control. And now Part 2  further established that Bu Yeon was indeed in control.

 Aramintai:
Naksu who had a personal mission

Nak Su's personal mission null and void after she learned it wasn't the families who killed her father. That was her only personal mission. She only changed her target to Jin Mu.

But, in the entire Part 1, it was made clear that Nak Su was being guided by Bu Yeon.

 Aramintai:
Bu-Yeon’s powers just occasionally shined through.

It did not “occasionally shined”. Bu Yeon consciously increased her powers when needed, for example, when Master Lee first showed up, Bu Yeon revealed herself to Master Lee. She practically sent a message to Master Lee, “I am protecting this parasite soul, stay away this is my decision”.

 Aramintai:
there will be harmony and she would no longer be a soul shifter

Well, according to Master Lee, that is not the case. If either the body's divine power or Nak Su's memories resurface, the body will reject Nak Su's soul and the petrification process will start again. Jin Mama understood this well, hence she hid her, especially from Uk, because any interaction she may have can trigger those memories back, or trigger the divine power in reactivating… which is what started to happen in episode 02.

If Nak Su's soul can not find a way to keep the body's divine power, she has to soul shift; or she'll be petrified. The only reason she was not in this situation in Part 1 was because Bu Yeon's soul was in complete control of the body's divine power. Now that Bu Yeon's soul is gone, the body's divine power is left without its 'master', if that awakens, it will be as Master Lee warned Jin Mama.

She only used this opportunity when it presented itself in the late episodes. She had no lifetime goal and it's even unclear whether she remembered her past life when she was Mu-Deok. She was living in Sari village all that time, without trying to contact or find her family, she was doing nothing with her life. With so many unknowns it may as well have been ice stone's collective consciousness that spoke to Naksu. Maybe ice stone wants to return to the skies.

You're only basing this on badly translated or misspoken words of master Lee. Which are open to interpretation. What happened between the girls was a coincidence. A mage soul trapped iniside a priestess body. Nobody was planning for it, consequences happened automatically because of what they were.

Naksu abandonded revenge early on, but her mission was still clear - to regain her powers, stay alive, come up on top. Bu-Yeon had no mission whatsover, Naksu was her own self and was never guided by Bu-Yeon. Maybe guided by fate, if it exists there, but definitely not by some person.

 IM YourOnlyOne:

You're mistaking Bu-Yeon's conscious attempts to help with her body's automatic divine powers.

She only overcame Naksu's consciousness once - when she was sleepwalking. And maybe when Bu-Yeon saved Uk from aos, it wasn't clear whether Naksu was unconscious at that moment. Other times Naksu was always conscious and in control.

 IM YourOnlyOne:

Nope again. He only said that her divine powers will come back when she regains her memory, or vice versa. He never said anything about her turning back to soul shifter. She can't now, because her body and soul are the same now. That's it, don't invent something that is no longer true.

And mama Jin wanted her without memories because otherwise Naksu will run away and she'll be left with nothing. She hates Naksu, but couldn't bring herself to kill her, because she's still inside her daughter's body. Mama Jin only cares about the body now and wants to keep it locked up.

True. I rewatched the scene between Master Lee and Mama Jin and he said that the soul and body has to match in order for the body to not run wild again (unless netflix has given us a bad english translation)
