BEST DRAMA

the series is exceeding expectations and is living up to its reputation as one of the most anticipated K-dramas of the year. The chemistry between the characters feels like a warm hug, leaving us giggling and kicking their feet in delight. The lessons and encouraging words exchanged between characters provide comfort and are bound to resonate deeply with viewers. Moreover, the twists in the plot have been executed brilliantly so far. Lovely Runner is progressing at a fantastic pace, and hopefully, it will maintain this momentum in the episodes to come.

Kim Ji-won Falls for Kim Soo-hyun Once Again

This episode gives us a bit more insight on Yoon Eun-sung and we do not like what we see. It seems as though he may have a more sinister plan in his mind when it comes to Hae-in as well as the Queens group. With his typical ‘evil second lead’ behaviour of inciting jealousy from Hyun-woo and leaving Hae-in feeling doubtful about her marriage, it may not have to do with his love for her but rather a revenge plan. But what could it be?On the other hand, we love Hae-in in this episode! She is finally showing emotions besides anger and we are here for it! She looks like a school girl, with the way she blushes, thinking about Hyun-woo. She also shows her empathetic side even more with the employees and other people in her vicinity. While she thinks it is unnatural for her to feel for others, we love that she is finally breaking out of her empty shell of being just a businesswoman. She is still materialistic and hot-headed but it seems like her cold heart is melting a little, thanks to Hyun-woo, his sweet personality and his impressive physique.

Five Stars

The first half of this episode was pretty laid back and filled with rom-com moments. You get the romantic angle of not just our main couple, but also Bok-gyu and Da-jeong. It is in the second half that things get interesting as we realise why Seok-min was trying to be so considered to Do-hee. And the last revelation was really something that caught me off guard. Now, what happens to Do-hee, we will have to find out in the next episode.

The Atypical Family episode 3 was definitely…

The Atypical Family episode 3 was definitely a step up from the previous chapter. This time around, we understand Gwi-ju’s power as a symbolic manifestation of his depression. He suffers from guilt and trauma that arises from the harrowing event of the past and cannot help but revisit his past, mulling over it while neglecting his present – his family. From the episode, it’s clear that Se-yeon had enough of Gwi-ju’s time-travels and was planning to leave him due to his continual absence. The events of her death only heightened Gwi-ju’s trauma, leading to the loss of his power. At the same time, Da-hae’s literal colourful arrival in his life signifies a renewed connection, a chance at coming out of his illness.Amidst all this, the show keeps on getting mysterious and interesting at the same time as we ponder upon the reasons for the last scene, where Gwi-ju’s reflection did not appear in the mirror. Is it an after-effect of his time travelling power? Or does it highlight that he’s a person who doesn’t exist in the present? We don’t know that yet but it’s certainly exciting. However, a point to note is that in many monochromatic sequences of Gwi-ju’s travels to the past, the viewing experience is subpar owing to the odd editing and low production quality. It seems as though Gwi-ju is cut and pasted on the film separately and it makes the entire sequence look unpolished and abrupt. Another thing with the episode is the under-developed characters and plots. Da-hae and Gwi-ju’s romance arc seem slightly forced and unrealistic in terms of how quickly Gwi-ju feels connected to Da-hae despite claiming to suffer from serious depression.Dong-hee’s character is nothing but a cliched stereotype at the moment. The only well-rounded character in the series until now seem to be I-na and so, it would be exciting to see her character development.

Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s Love Triumphs in the Finale

Despite the speculations based on the previous episode, the writers managed to give a good end to the series – especially to Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s story. However, the story in the second half of the series seemed more like a thriller instead of a romance drama. There was a lot more importance given to Eun-sung over Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s story. The writers tried to incite sympathy for Eun-sung through his flashbacks but his crazed look and plans in the present leave no room for sympathy. They could have spent more time showing the chemistry between Hyun-woo and Hae-in throughout the story – instead of giving small doses of love here and there. Kim Soo-hyun is a talented actor who has shown his calibre again and again. His commitment to Hyun-woo is commendable and his expressions are enough to feel the emotions during the episode. I didn’t think Kim Ji-won could top her performance in My Liberation Notes but she continues to show a wide range of emotions.

Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won Grapple with Their Fates

The episode was a rollercoaster of emotions. From their angsty interactions to the way they express their love – we enjoyed every bit! Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won are exceptional actors which they prove through every episode. The church scene made us tear up and root for them as they realised just how much they love each other. Soo-cheol and Da-hye’s scene is yet another part of the episode that took us by surprise. They were amazing as they enjoyed their time as a family but Da-hye was grappled with the issues. We hope to see more of them in the last two episodes!Park Sung-hoon is really made to play negative characters as his runtime in this episode was minuscule but he takes over the space with his expressions alone. The obsession, anger and sinister dialogues were gold. He got us hating him by the end of the episode.

Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won Are All About Love

Finally, we got to see Hyun-woo and Hae-in as a newlywed couple and we love every second of it! Their lovey-dovey scenes have our hearts. Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won are extremely talented actors as they can express several emotions throughout the episode with such grace and tenacity. Kim Jung-nan as Beom-ja is also another actor who knocked it out of the park as a grieving daughter. She showed her strong personality throughout her interactions with Sol-hee and her soft side during conversations with Yeong-song. Eun-sung had smaller scenes in this episode but looking at the preview for the next episode, it seems like he will be partaking in a disastrous plan.

Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won Face a World of Troubles

Queen of Tears is definitely known for their cliffhangers because What. An. Ending! Now that they have found the room, did they get there in time or did Eun-sung find it before they could get their hands on the funds? It is also sad that Beom-ja never got to make up with her dad before he went away. She was the most affected by the situation and now she will never get to talk to him again. Hae-in’s condition keeps worsening, especially when she is getting closer to her family, Hyun-woo and his family. Just when she got them, she seemed to be spiralling – which has gotten her understandably scared. Kim Ji-won has translated Hae-in’s feelings beautifully with her expressions and actions. Kim Soo-hyun continues to display his brilliant acting skills throughout the story! Park Sung-hoon as Eun-sung is definitely the right choice because the scene when Sol-hee tells him about how she always looked out for him makes the viewers feel for him. The realisation and the shock in his expression make us feel like we are right there with him.

Five Stars

These last two episodes were absolutely adorable! Lovely Runner has a knack for kicking off each episode with heart-fluttering romantic moments, only to leave us hanging with intense cliffhangers by the end. The chemistry between the duo is just too cute to resist, and whoever isn't tuning in is seriously missing out. Can't wait for the next episodes to see what unfolds!

The Fan and The Idol Who Saved Her Life

The premiere hit us with comedy and tears all at once. One minute, we were laughing, and the next, we were crying. It was an emotional rollercoaster, but it was definitely worth the watch. The visuals, cinematography and music are perfectly interwoven to bring this story to life. Although this is just the first episode, Byeon Woo-seok did a fantastic job portraying Sung-jae. Kim Hye-yoon was also a delight to watch. They seem to understand their characters and effortlessly execute their respective roles. This first episode gave us a beautiful and sad introduction to the main characters. We have Sung-Jae, a famous idol who commits suicide after battling depression. His music saved many, but unfortunately, it was not enough to save him in his darkest moments. It is hard to perfectly sum up the loss his family, Im Sol, and his other fans must feel.In most cases, those left behind have questions and feel guilty for not doing enough or seeing the signs. For the past few years. Sung-jae gave Im Sol and many others a reason to live. In a way, he was there for her through her darkest moment. He showed her the light at the end of the dark tunnel. His loss is confusing and painful.Im Sol feels guilty and hopes to change Sung-jae’s fate by staying back in 2008 and saving him. However, it is not her fault; hopefully, she will realise this soon. It also won’t be easy to relive the sad moments in her life. She is the only one who knows the future, and she is going through twice the pain. We look forward to seeing her plan to save him and how it will affect the future. This show will heavily touch on mental health, suicide and loss. It can be triggering for some. However, these are important topics, and we as a society need to discuss them more. This show offers a great platform to start these conversations and shed away some of the stigma that comes with depression and suicide.

Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won Protect Each Other Fiercely

The episode gave us a lot of lovely moments shared between Hyun-woo and Hae-in. Hyun-woo and Hae-in finally had a conversation regarding their behaviour as a married couple. Even though it did not change much it is a positive sign that they are communicating. Hyun-woo also got to see how much Hae-in loves and cares for him. The way she carries the ointment and band-aids with her just shows how much she thinks of him. Hae-in shone in the last few scenes. She showed Eun-sung the true dragon of the Queens Group with her calculated move. While Eun-sung may love or care for her, all he knows is to get things through deceit – making him the villain in their story. We hope to see Hae-in and Hyun-woo fight Eun-sung and show him his place.

Kim Soo-Hyun Rescues Kim Ji-won’s Family

The episode was filled with laughter and many serious scenes that gave us clarity about Hae-in’s family. Her father seems like a sweet person and someone who cares about his loved ones. Her mother definitely cares about her but cannot let go of the past. She feels jealous of the close relationship between Hae-in and Hyun-woo’s mother – proving that she has the maternal instinct but is too far gone to show compassion towards her own daughter.Hyun-woo shows his sweet side as he cares for Hae-in and her family. Even though he feels sad about Hae-in’s cold conversations, he loves and cares for Hae-in – especially when she is sick. It is obvious that Hae-in also loves him but she is scared to keep him in her life. We hope to see more romantic scenes between them.

Kim Soo-hyun Suspects Park Sung-hoon’s True Intentions

What. An. Episode! This episode is probably the best one so far! From Song Joong-ki’s surprise guest appearance to the lore of Eun-sung and Sol-hee, we were thoroughly entertained! This episode also showed us how our two main characters loved each other to no end. Their dedication to protecting each other is absolutely delightful to watch. Song Joong-ki as Vincenzo takes the cake as he brings back his iconic character in the best way possible. It was a beautiful refresher to see him back on-screen again. Kim Soo-hyun continues to wow us with his acting skills as he shows another side of himself – the calculative attorney. Hyun-woo’s need to protect Hae-in also extends to her family, even if it means to be humiliated by them. Kim Ji-won as Hong Hae-in is one of the best K-drama decisions as she shows her emotions extremely well for someone who pretends to be calculative and cunning. From walking around to see how Hyun-woo lives his day-to-day life to having his back even when he is not around – she is surely one smitten kitten!

Kim Ji-won Goes on a Warpath to Destroy Kim Soo-hyun

It feels like we are back to square one when it comes to Hae-in and Hyun-woo but this time, Hyun-woo understands where he went wrong. The moment he saw her cry and give up on herself, he decided to become a better person for her – even if it meant that she would hate him. He took on all her temper tantrums as well as her family’s hatred with stride just so that she could recover. We also saw how there were so many people connected and in the Hong family, who spent years planning their way to destroy the family. Their greed to get their fame, wealth and status – these people have worked hard to keep the family members in the dark. But it seems Da-hye is feeling guilty regarding Soo-cheol as she sees how hard he is working for her and their family.
