Revenge that takes 4 extra episodes long to be served

A revenge drama that truly serves the revenge on the platter from episode 1.

Marry my husband drama is good 10.5 episodes of perfect adaptation of web novel, 85% novel + 15% originality, then plot plot quickly turns original with it comes too many inconsistencies that can't be ignored, as if writers have ran out of ideas to fill in rest of the episodes. Even director's take cannot salvage the damage done by writers of the show. They could have simply put some time into existing character development rather than introducing new character just to make villains upper hand.

It may not be the best drama out there but had good start 1-6 episodes gives you feel of freshness, 7 - 10.5 episodes you would feel the quality is dropping but pivotal revenge moments pays off . Then comes the dread of 11-15 episodes which i believe can fast forward most of the scenes except the main leads.

Acting department song ha yoon n lee yi kyung brings there best games both of them invokes anger and aggression inside you; Park min young is good too, the weakest is Bae Geu Rin - she is miscast for the role and it is apparent from the moment she is introduced. Na In Woo is okay, rest out cast are good.

Definitely a one time watch, will i recommend it - if you have nothing to watch and want to off your brain or have craving for second chance at life kinda drama.

A very good revenge drama

Probably not as sinister as The Glory, but all the angst and anger towards the husband and best friend for sure! A little too much overacting from the support casts, but generally very good.

Each episode will keep you wanting for more so I suggest to binge watch. The travel timeline and why fate had to still play out was a little confusing. For example: a couple had to get married, someone had to have cancer and someone had to die in a car accident. Just watch with an open mind.

Definitely highly recommended! :)

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' Marry My Husband '' is a fantasy melodrama with a romance to boot.

The drama, first of all, has a strong start. The melodrama hits its peak then, with the villains being truly despicable, creating the right environment to cultivate a revenge plot hereby.

The romance was also cute, especially since the main couple had loads of chemistry.

On the other hand, the drama started getting messy, with idiotic twists, cheesy romantic scenes, and an ending that was rushed to conclude everyone's storyline.

At least, the performances were all enjoyable.

So, overall, six out of ten.

THE PERFECT CRINGE?

so i hesitated a lot to watch this because, well, the poster looked cringe, and the title sounded soapy and i was loosing hope on good dramas lately...

WITHOUT SPOILERS, you only need to watch the first scene with the window to know that it will be a great show!! this quality cannot be faked!

the cinematography, imagery, the story, the parallels, lessons and how people change or don't change were amazing!

despite a cliché seeming 'cold' ML, with typical tropes, it was a well done one!
i often gave up on shows made by this FL although i love her a lot! i think she was phenomenal here!

the FL transformation throughout the show is lovely and inspiring, and i think this show tackles toxic and violent relationships well and inspires a healing journey!

i knew this show would be well done since its based on a solid webtoon: the producers can stay coherent more easily , but its a show that gets really messy with drama!

if you are looking for a classic drama, this is the PERFECT CRINGE!

More makjang than expected

I read the webtoon, which was rather funny, so I was quite surprised by how makjang this drama adaptation turned out to be. Much of it seems to due to the choices made by the writer and director. It took too long for the female characters to grow backbones. Na In Woo, whom I find acceptable, could have done much better. The best actor definitely was Song Ha Yoon, who portrayed Jeong Su Min. She did a fantastic job of realizing the twistedness of the character. I also preferred the webtoon's treatment of the villains' outcome, as well as the webtoon's depictions of Jihyuk's family. Overall, the adaptation lacked the lightness that balanced out the crazy in the webtoon, a balance that I really appreciated. So watch this knowing that it'll be makjang with unnecessary additions to/deviations from the webtoon storyline, when the original storyline would have been just fine.

AND one more thing. What is with Jiwon's work outfits? An off-shoulder getup to work? A bustier to work? Is she going to a fancy dinner at a luxury hotel or coming into work at a big conglomerate with a fairly traditional corporate culture? Her outfits were such distractions.

Great concept, mediocre execution

I am writing this review as someone who hasn't read the webtoon.
I am someone who really enjoys revenge plots, it feeds my soul to see bad people be put in their place, however, this drama, on many occassiona, just had me feeling frustrated instead of happy.

What I liked
1. Wonderful performances by supporting cast - I love almost most of the supporting cast of the show, including actors portraying Sumin and Jihwan. To pull off villains that make your blood boil is not an easy task and these two nailed it. It was genuinely infuriating to see them manipulate and gaslight Ji-won.
2. Jiwon learning to stand up for herself, and face Sumin on her own as much as she could. It was nice to not have Ji hyuk be her knight in shining armor all the time.
3. Jihwan's death, it was satisfying to see him die the way Jiwon had, instead of it being Sumin. It was a plot twist I enjoyed.

What I disliked
1. The main leads - I disliked both of their characters, especially Jiwon's. Her pure and naive personality felt unreal and stupid and instead of pitying her situation, I only ended up feeling mildly annoyed at her decisions. Even after time traveling, she continued to take forever before she grew a spine, and by the end of it, I was rooting more for Jooran than her victory. Jihyuk's character was the blandest male lead one ever had in kdramas. Having his entire existence revolve around Jiwon's happiness made him one-dimensional. Surely, they could have explored his relationship with his fiance in detail, and explore his arc. He basically was like just there.... most of the time, and it was boring to watch him on screen. The chemistry of the main leads also was lacking, and I was left feeling uncomfortable whenever they hugged, because of how forced it felt.

2. The writing taking a nosedive after episode 11. I didn't mind the addition of Yoora to the plot, they needed a scapegoat to share Jihyuk's fate, while also being connected to him. But damn, they failed the execution. Her character too had no depth, no rational explanation behind her motivation other than she was ruthless... which we didn't actually get to properly appreciate because of the lack of context. Also it didnt make sense why she would use Jihwan considering how pwerful she is, let alone sleep with him and bail him out of jail. Crappy writing.

3. The fact that no one stands up against that shitty manager, its so irritating. Surely someone would have, it just felt so ..... weird that everyone just tolerated that behaviour. Surely Jihyuk's sister could have had him fired, especially since he underperforms.... it was stupid.

Overall.. this was a one time watch, and I played most of it in 2X speed.

A do-over done right . . With caveats

I think I shall call 2023/24 the Year of Do-overs. Quite a few shows have the lead(s) shuffle off the mortal coil only to come back as the much improved Lead(s) 2.0.

To be fair, if anyone deserves a do-over and right some serious wrongs, our beloved PMY should be at the head of the queue. We are left with no doubt that her life has spiralled out of control and death is a blessed relief.

With her demise out of the way, the show completely changed tone. The FL was confused and stressed for the moment but once she accepted her situation and got her little grey cells working overtimes, she was on fire! She re-evaluated her life from high school onwards and noticed all the red flags she never noticed before. It was obvious in hindsight that she was manipulated and gaslighted constantly by someone with a singular purpose.

The middle section is the highlight for me. It was gratifying to see our OTP join hands and outsmart the antagonists at every turn. Everything seems to be going swimmingly. If you think there is a BUT coming then you have obviously watched too many k-dramas. ;)

Within a few scenes around episode 12, our writer-nim turned all the best made plans of our OTP into dumpster fires. It was makjang with a capital M. Every tropey subplots are dusted off and threw into the witches brew.

I know most viewers will feel aggrieved at this point. The show giveth and the show taketh away. It was as if a switch was flipped. The drama was injecting angst just for angst’s sake.

However, I do see some method to this madness. It largely comes down to the plot getting out of control as more and more characters are introduced which stretched the simple idea of diverting your worse fate to others difficult to sustain without creating a small singularity. I'm sure our writer-nim planned it all along but it was not a good look when the proverbial hits the fan.

With this in mind, the writer-nim basically did a hard reset, allowing her to set the stage for the final confrontation. It might feel like a hack job but the show gets away with it because it is a dark fantasy. Paring back the modern trimmings, it could have been a tale told by the OG Brothers Grimm. Gruesome deaths are far more likely than singing woodland creatures.

Thankfully, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and there is much rejoicing when the inevitable all happened on cue. This leads us to one of the most detailed and sweetest fan service episode for many moons. It is not brilliant writing but the little lumps of sugar just kept coming and we stop caring.

In terms of acting, I’m happy to report that PMY has got her mojo back. As a fan, it pains me to say that her last few dramas were (cough) patchy. It certainly was not on par with earlier shows like Secretary Kim or Her Private Life. While this show is still not up there, they definitely share some DNA.

This is further helped by the acting of the ML and their chemistry. He might not be the classic handsome lead but he more than made up for it with other attributes. He complimented her evolving character well. On the other hand, the antagonists are one dimensional and predictable. That's ok because this is not a convoluted mystery drama, their actions are all laid bare from the start. They are there as focus of our ire, this they managed to do with single minded efficiency.

In the end, I had high hopes and the series mostly delivered. However, it did stumble in the last 1/4 of its run. It almost stole defeat from the jaws of victory. I’m glad that the show recovers and ends well. It was a close call. I gave it an extra ½ point because of PMY. Fight me. :)

Got her lickback and then got her man

Kang Ji-won is one of my favourite mfl’s ever
Yoo Ji-hyuk’s dedication NEVER wavered and I love him for that (and his visuals)
Hui-yeon is my goddess
Mrs Yang finally traded her dutty husband for some eye candy (that man was so ugh idek how to phrase it, he’s just yummy)
Eun-ho was bearable when he finally got a clue
Park Min-hwan is— sorry, *was* the embodiment of the dirt on my shoe, and I hope the flames are consuming him in the fiery pits <3
Jeong Su-min is a crazy whore and can burn in hell, a correctional facility is way too good for her <3
I pray on my knees that Oh Yu-ra is engulfed by Lucifer’s fire in eternal suffering <3
Both Su-min and Ji-won’s living parents can burn in hell <3

This was such a smart plot line with *perfect* casting and amazing pacing throughout most of the show (it got a bit messy towards the end). The first episode *immediately* pulls you in and encourages you to keep watching. I love the revenge plot, I love the collaboration, I love the romance and how it actually helped the mfl protect and better herself, I love the physical intimacy, I love the female friendships (except 1 obvi), I love the craziness of it all. I just love this show!!

But I do think that the show could have commented on the theme of domestic violence in long-term/committed relationships and its statistics: if Ji-won didn’t die by her husband’s hand, then Mrs Yang would have without outsider intervention. I think it speaks to how common domestic abuse is. I wish the show shed light on that, but I do know that they are still quite conservative when it comes to speaking on certain matters.

Overall reveiw -Marry My husband

Adapt Nover based marry My Husband drama is Good revenge,Rom drama. My overall opinion It can be said that the performances of the villain characters in this drama are very good. It is so effective that it makes you hate the characters even knowing that it is an act. Soo min is acting very well and it must be said that she has acted as she deserves a best supporting actress award. Lee yi kyung was able to highlight Min hwan charcter eka very deceitful loser very well in the story. When yu ra character appeared in ep 12 then the story felt confusing but it matched very well with the ending. Other characters were also very well acted.

I will not talk much about the main character this time. Because their performances are excellent as usual. chemistry between main characters is best it can be score 10/10. But I feel that it would be better if the chemistry between Baek Eun Ho and Yoo Hee Yeon and the story time were extended. The example that can be taken from this story is that our destiny is not decided by luck or misfortune, but by the choices of which people we associate with. But as the saying goes, we don't get a second chance, so choose carefully which people we choose to hang out with.

5 Reasons to Watch Marry My Husband

1. Exciting Mix of Makjang Twist
One of the best makjang dramas I've ever watched! When I discovered the plot involved marriage affairs, I never expected it will be a delightful mix with comedy and fantasy elements. Each episode kept me hooked!

2. Thrilling Revenge for Betrayal
The revenge storyline is incredibly satisfying and each twist is fulfilling with the heroine ensuring karma for each villain.

3. A Journey of Starting Over
It's heartwarming to witness our heroine given the opportunity to make things right. Everyone deserves a second chance, especially with a strong support system by their side.

4. Office Sismance
Finally we have that perfect bestie we all wish for our heroine. She's the mood of the series! Here's to hoping for more vibrant characters like her in the future!

5. Meet The Villain You’ll Love to Hate
Song Ha Yoon succeeds in portraying both an irritating villain and the ultimate pick-me girl. Kudos to her for delivering an impeccable performance that contrast with her usual protagonist roles.

Unique Things:
Right from the first episode, I found myself rooting for the struggling heroine, cheering her on as she bravely confronts each toxic character one by one. Watching her going through physical and mental transformation throughout the series was inspiring.

Also let's give a round of applause to the Dad character for blessing the story with a reliable and supportive male lead. The allowance concept in between second chances are brilliant!

And when it comes to romance, Park Min Young's chemistry with her on-screen partner is always exceptional.

Beware of spoilers ahead

I have to say, the karma and revenge in this drama were spot on. The downfall and death of the ex-husband was satisfying, although I wish he had suffered from his debts a bit longer. And the twist with the ex-fiancée’s car accident? Brilliant.

I just a bit disappointed with Mrs. Yang’s cancer subplot. I was hoping for something more unexpected, like a misdiagnosis. As I hope the cancer goes to Su Min instead. Lastly, I don’t think Yu Ra’s character was entirely unnecessary. She helped tie up the loose end of the car accident for our male lead. But a little clue about the fiancée from the start would have been perfect.

Now, let’s talk about one of my new crush from: Na In Woo. I’m thrilled to see him shine in such an amazing drama after his last makjang, Jinxed at First, which I didn’t really enjoy (sadly, as I love both leads). Here’s hoping he gets more spotlight in the future!

I usually wouldn’t rewatch a makjang drama, so don't mind the rewatch value as this one excelled in so many other aspects.

No máximo vinte?
