It’s a fun drama, but I’m not sure why it was such a sensation

This drama is fun enough. You get all the kdrama tropes and bad guys get their comeuppance. I enjoy Park Min Young and tend to tune in for her dramas because if nothing else she usually brings her A game when it comes to creating chemistry with her male co-stars. I also like Song Ha Yoon and was interested in seeing her play a baddie, and she definitely delivered!
However I just don’t get the hype overall for this show. Neither the writing nor plot are particularly fresh, the characters aren’t all that interesting, and even the romance is kind of lukewarm.

For a while I felt this show was spinning its wheels and that 12 episodes would have sufficed. I turned to my mom and said, “they’re really taking a while to get to it” and she agreed that not much was happening because so much time was spent on the corporate stuff that wasn’t very interesting. And I felt this even more when they brought in a ridiculous antagonist towards the end that was completely unnecessary except that they wanted more drama.

I also said that they were taking a very long time to give us any real romance if they intended to have that happen. And sure enough when it finally comes it’s just a bit sudden in that it was “oh she’s now imagining she sees him and wants him around”. Before that it really did not feel romantic between them. And that actually made sense given FL’s situation and focus, so I thought they could have skipped the romance in this one.

But I even forgave the tepid romance due to that first kiss, which was fantastic. The problem is that after that they went right to boring kdrama tropes where the FL acts like a nun and is scandalized by skinship. Romance went right back to dry and dull, particularly after a rather silly decision FL makes.

I was happy to see Na In Woo get a lead role, but this character was just ok. He got better as the drama went along, but he’s written like a typical webtoon/ web novel male character, which I’ve expressed before is making romcoms rather boring. Of course progressive/feminist types on Reddit eat this up citing how ML is a forest of green flags, and so on, because there’s no longer room for actually interesting male characters that aren’t just hopelessly devoted and cheerleading girlboss female leads.
While I’m on that subject, one thing this drama gets right is appropriate punishment for the antagonists, including the female one. I read a review here complaining about how dare the FL pass on her abusive ex to another woman and had to laugh. Oh no, not women facing the consequences of their actions! Not in this feminist timeline!
As the drama showed, none of these people were forced to behave as they did. They made their choices. They could have stopped at any point. They brought all their misfortune on themselves, and women don’t get a pass.

Overall, this drama did keep me interested and was a breezy watch, but it’s not some masterpiece by any stretch. I think a lot of hype comes from being a first drama for many (much like the also overrated Crash Landing On You), and because it appeals to all the female viewers who love these bland ML’s and romances (no ~problematic~ aspects) being cranked out one after another of late.

Just enough to keep you entertained

They chose a premise. Second chance at life. They stuck to it through and through, bringing only what logic was important to them to stay true to the premise, and leaving aside all other unnecessary complications. I appreciate that.

It also seems to connect with those slightly older kdrama trends, which delivered all-in-one without messing it all up. Sure, we can't stand serial killers showing up in romantic comedies all the time, but that's only when it seems to come out of force of habit style of writing with no clear sense of why. This show is like a once more, a bit of a salute to that classic style. There is a good romance (the twist with recent dramas is unlike older ones where ML is a classic bully, the newer MLs are walking green flags), there is some comedy, there is some thriller type plot that gets heavier in the latter half, there is some makjang and the main revenge that is the elaborated version of the title itself.

There are some real satisfactory moments in this drawn out revenge plan. My personal favourite occurs right at the middle. Now, I quite like the show for keeping me engaged enough for all these weeks. Minor happy moments yes, but a major game-changer? No. Still, the real stroke of genius seemed to be the cast for me. Whoever did that has my thanks. The cast lifted this show's entertainment value to one more level for me. Lee Yi Kyung as Park Min Hwan and the actress who played Jeong Su-Min did a great job! Na In Woo, tbh, did not immediately have me in his clutches, but by the end, I had to remind myself he is a fictional character who I should not mistake for reality, no matter how I might wish for him to be mine. That's how dedicated an ML he is.

Kang Ji Won - I realized only as I finished the last episode, how much I've enjoyed seeing her grow into this new person so different from her sorry first life personality. I also enjoyed seeing the changes in Yu Ji Hyuk. Eun Ho, had so little screen time, I want to see him in some other show soooon. Hui Yeon was soo good, really earned her screen time in the first half but the latter eps seemed to be too serious to allow this bright ball of sunshine more time & of course Yang Ju Ran and Lee Suk Joon, all very nice side characters. There were more side characters that fell in the annoying line. Some were excellently annoying some were not so excellent, only annoying.

Overall - I give this an 8.5/10

It was a fun watch but could have been better.

Before we begin, please don't come here thinking a 6.5 rating is something bad, it is literally slightly above average. But due to MDLers dishing out constant 8s and 10s, the rating system has kinda lost its value. So please know this before thinking that I'm calling this show bad.

Okay so let's begin with what I liked about this show:

-The villains: without even a hitch I can tell you the villains were the most interesting thing about this show for me, even the empty ones that were dumbly frustrating (like the old manager guy) made this show the charm that it is today.
Be for real with me right now, without them, most of our main characters would be meh.

-Park Minhwan's active involvement in Kang Jiwon's downfall , compared to the webtoon were he took a back sit and was more like a roach while Sumin did all the work.

-The changes that were made pertaining to Jihyuk's involvement in the story: unlike the original work were he was more of a pretty backdrop, this time around they gave him a backstory and a reason to exist in this world instead of being "Kang Jiwon's rich and powerful husband".

-The fact they didn't drag out Yang Juran's story.

- Hwiyeon! Just Hwiyeon. Some may say she was a bit too much and almost cartoonish, but I liked her since day one, she's a bundle of sunshine and I just wanna pinch her cheeks.

-The overall story was interesting and fun to follow. Especially if you had to watch it while it was airing, each episodes left me at the edge of my sit (at least before we went past episode 12, but I'll get back to that).

I think this is were it stops, now unto what I disliked or what they could have done better:

-The MCs. Oh my goodness where do I begin? They were bland asf and it's not even subtle. I won't judge Kang Jiwon too harshly because I realize she's sorta supposed to be this character that anyone watching can use to experience the high of getting revenge on your enemies (kinda like how power fantasy characters are written, Solo Leveling for example).

Even then she was way too perfect for me and felt unrelatable, since her only flaws were being naïve and nice. However, I'll admit that I enjoyed how the writers had her fail multiple times when going up against Sumin before realizing what a monster her "friend" truly was. After that, I can't tell you anything else I found interesting about her.

I don't have much to say about the leading guy. He was boring and just a tool used by the writers to get KJW to her preferred location. You know how I said, "I like changes that were made pertaining to Jihyuk's involvement in the story..." ? Well the more they involved him, the more I realized just how boring he could get.
I skipped through most of it, you did well Na In Woo but even you couldn't save this one.

-The romance, I didn't like it in the webtoon and neither do I like it in the remake. It's all related to the fact the author/writers wrote the MCs to be almost flawless that even their romance took a hit. I can't tell you for the life of me, why Kang Jiwon likes Jihyuk or the other way around, yeah they tell us but I feel they didn't show us enough of it.

Their lack of real conflicts was appalling, and you might say but they did have a conflict about Yura...really? That was barely a conflict with its blandness, made no sense and was so empty. I felt nobody truly grew from said conflict because it was resolved by their circumstances and not the people involved. It was also a great tool used to extend the episodes...

- Oh Yu-ra. Need I say more?
She was just an empty shell used to fuel the drama and extend the episodes. I said I liked all the villains, except once you get past episode 12, she makes her entrance and from the get go I could tell they just wanted to extend the watch time. Her motives were okay but her way of going about it was so dumb and made no sense whatsoever. Her whole existence in this story made no sense and she could have been dealt with faster.

-The number of episodes: be for real with me, if you've seen the show, you can admit that it dropped in quality the moment we it the 12 episode mark. This should've been shorter and episode 14 would have been a great place to end it but they dragged the conflict all the way to 16. I'm very outspoken about not liking the 16 episodes formula because most of the dramas I used to watch and liked usually see a decline of quality around the 12 episode mark because they're trying to warp the story into a format that is not meant for them.

- The fact they removed Hwiyeon's mom really made me sad. She was a really fun character I would have been happy to learn more about.

- The fashion... were we truly in 2013? Were are the bright colors? The crazy patterns? The bangs? For reference The Heirs came out in 2013.

So yeah, overall this wasn't a bad show but it wasn't great either, the characters lacked personality especially those on the good guys' side. I would still recommend it because a lot of people enjoyed it , myself included, because yes you can like/enjoy a show while still being critical about it. Thank you for listening to my rambling if you made it this far and feel free to disagree if you feel I got some things wrong.

Pawn off my horrible husband to my horrible best friend

I don’t know why but sometimes I just get a. Certain feeling while watching a drama. The kind where it’s one of a kind and soon to be irreplaceable. Now I’ve seen many drama with Park Min Young in it, and I love her. She’s so sweet of an actress and a visual, and is a very talented woman. I’m captivated by every performance, but now I’ve finally seen a drama of hers that really does her acting justice.

There have been glimpses in others. This drama just hits all the boxes, it’s funny, gripping, heartbreaking, and she’s put the work in. Hearing her story to get into the role got me to watch in the first place. I don’t know much about the other actors involved besides the second ML, who was in Welcome to Waikiki.. he is so hilarious.. go watch that.

So I’ve seen a lot of romantic comedies this year and have rated them well, but they slowly lose my interest all at once. This one just has so much to keep me watching. Revenge is something I love to see played out, a woman who is calculating and doesn’t get swept up by love. She’s got a motive here and with the first handful of episodes it’s already so satisfying to see her slowly chip away at a life she refuses to have.

I’ll go more into this when I can type on a computer. But for now I want to just recommend this drama. The ending ost for the last two eps is so so good and it’s just interesting ok. Believe me and watch.

A Candid Review of MMH

To all the dedicated fans of MMH, your passion is truly admirable. However, it's time to be honest - The intricacies of the narrative seemed to unfold at a leisurely speed, testing my patience as a viewer.

The central character, the female lead, plays a crucial role, yet her abilities felt somewhat restricted due to an expressionless and icy demeanor. The chemistry with the male lead, though integral to the plot, came across as cold and robotic, lacking the warmth that often defines captivating on-screen relationships.

Despite the drama's high production standards and a commendable storyline, I couldn't find that magical touch that often captivates audiences. Nevertheless, my intention is not to diminish the appreciation others may have for it. Sending love to the fandom, as everyone's taste in dramas is unique.

recommended and worth watching

i had been waiting for this drama since last year's when they announced it will be airing early this year's as i am fan of PMY. But, i could not put higher hope for this project as i do watch a similar plots somewhere else and also the gossip that crashed PMY early 2023 may also give a big impact to her.

surprisingly PMY giving her best and if i could say, she does more than ?%, putting her effort to indulge in her character. well done ✅

As for now, the plots was so much interesting compare to other versions. i keep on hooks up and waiting for every episode to be aired ?

i really wish all 16 episodes will giving full satisfaction. ? caiyookk!!!

ohh ya!! believe me. this one worth watching. very recommended ?

gwenchana ?

I devotedly love it. I am not familiar with the webtoon and I haven't read it but I like how it was written because it's a great story.
I like that Ji Won was given a second chance to correct all the wrong doings in her past and for teaching a lesson the past people that ruin her life. And Ji Hyuk was also a second chance to save Ji Won for those who hurt her. They see that their past life are transferred to other people but they make sure to be there for them no matter what except for MIN Hwan and Su MIN especially. to Yu Ra they all paid the wrong doings they did to Ji Won.
Of course Ji Won didn't runaway instead she faced all the obstacles that are thrown to her she never gave up.
I like how it ends, it was indeed a happy ending. They built a happy and peaceful family.

An honorable watch

At first I though this show would be a decent watch but WOW to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. This show resonated with me so much because I saw myself through the actions of the Fl. Not only that, but the life she created for herself in the end is one I have always strived for and could only dream of. I was just so so so happy for them that my emotions just took over. I also want to say that I learned so much about myself from this. I finally found my type. I hope my person shares the same characteristics as the ML, and treasures me the way he does her. To the one who gifted me this, thank you.

Excellent actors but did the script have two different set of writers?

I anticipated Marry My Husband with great interest.

But how could a series begin with such a perfect story and be such a disappointment with ep 12-16?

It was like the script had two different writers.

I would score it 8.0 (9.0 for ep 1-11, and 7.0 for ep 12-16).

The ending was just so - everyone got their just dues - bad people either died or went crazy; good people prospered.

What did I like about it? It was just entertaining.
It was a great start but a meh finish.
All the boxes were checked and re-checked.

However the acting was excellent- ML and FL, top-notch. SML and SFL were believable and fun to watch.
Is this a rewatch? Not for me.

I believe that the actors worked hard to make this series a success.
The problem was with the writers- no fault to the wonderful actors.

I'm looking forward to seeing them in future series.

The webtoon was better too many cringey scenes

So many cringey moments and unnecessary plot. The webtoon was better.

1. Sponsor/brand plug in is too obvious
2. The two MCs doesn’t have chemistry whatsoever
3. The female lead couldn’t deliver emotional scenes well.
4. The “fiancé” villain arch was too rush or unnecessary.
5. Everything was too shallow even everyone’s acting.

A Satisfying Blend of Revenge, Time Travel, and Adaptation

Marry My Husband was an exciting and satisfying show that surprised me. Usually, I wouldn't say I like shows about revenge because they can be a bit too much for me. The way the show used time travel to weave through its revenge storyline was thought-provoking and added a unique twist.

It explored the consequences of actions and the idea of redemption in an engaging and satisfying way. It's rare for a show to successfully combine severe themes with the intriguing concept of time travel, but it did it brilliantly. This is worth watching if you're searching for a show that offers something beyond the usual.

Furthermore, the drama led me to read the webtoon it was based on, which was an equally satisfying experience. Although only some things matched up perfectly between the drama and the webtoon, discovering the differences and seeing how the characters and story were adapted was truly enjoyable.

Wanjeon PERFECT!

If you're looking for a drama with revenge. Crazy twist. Romances. Healthy and Broken friendships. Chaebol genre... this is the drama for you.
You will definitely boil yourself with anger and frustration which is a good thing as the characters did an outstanding job portraying their roles.
I'm honestly proud of the villains as I believe this is their first time acting as a bad person.
Song Ha-Yoon was on next level!
I knew her from the drama 'Fight for My Way' and I love her character there. She's the bestest friend who's considerate. Kind. Helpful and supportive. And seeing her in this role has definitely shocked me. She demonstrated her emotions and actions so well. I honestly don't even know how to describe it. It's Indescribable. Before writing this, I read an article about how she struggled and that she's usually alone to better immerse her character in. She struggled significantly. Her villain character deserves an award. I'm so proud.
Nonetheless, the plot of this drama is good!
I love the cast. The frustration with the villains triggered me mentally and physically but this showcases how they can perform their roles.
The ending was AMAZING.
I LOVE THE ENDING.
It's a WANJEON ENDING.
The main couple of course, was amazing too. I love their romance and their chemistry. I'm just really proud of the villains. But it's nice because it's like all in one. You get everything in one drama.
The jealous fake best friend who wants everything because she's jealous and that she believes she deserves all the love and care in the world. And not Jiwon.
This was worth the wait!!!!
The cast and crew deserved an award!
Looking forward to it!
Thank you for your hard work.
I wish them the best in their future endeavors.
